if you guys could just tell me what you think i would really appreciate it

wow abalcof. i think you are more then qualified. wow especially with that bright, bold USC AND TISCH summer film programs. wow
i wouldnt be worried at all.

Thanks. I also don’t know if piano and vocal lessons do anything to the resume but I do those as well. Did you by any chance watch the film? dont feel like you need to I’m just looking for some opinions

wow
1st off,
loved the lighting in the aa meeting parts. great use of shadows! loved that part
also great topic, nice story line and i liked your lead actor he was very entertaining with his questions about paying and the clapping.
i wouldnt worry,
you had great shots, great story line and everything
nice work!

Well thank you so much for watching and for the compliments. Did you send a film in? And did you apply early?

yeah i applied ED and yeah i sent in a film. it is no where near the caliber of yours though ha.

I think there might be specific things they look for and the potential to tell stories. In other words, even a movie that might not look amazing at first glance they might see something they really like in it. I applied ED as well. I’m hoping it helps. All my friends applied to Ivy league schools and most have been defered, only a couple have gotten in, so im getting nervous for my letter

abalcof–i would say your pretty much in unless your dramatic essay for tisch was bad. I didn’t watch the whole film (I’ll get you some feedback 2moro) but what I did watch looked good. Your grades are above average (at least for Tisch), SATs are right on par, have some good ECs plus the 2 summer programs. As long as you should passion, and your dramatic essay wasn’t crap, then I would be shocked if you didn’t get in.

And no worries about your friends. People don’t realize how the Ivies reject ppl with like 4.4 2300 all the time…NYU is not at that level where it’s THAT much of a crapshoot once your in statistical range.

okay. thanks so much for the feedback. I’ve been freaking out for a month

haha welcome to the club abalcof lol this is definitely the board to be on to find people freaking out haha but i agree with jjohn, you are pretty much in.

I think for you abalcof, the decision will rest in the normal Tisch application process, not the portfolio review. I liked your portfolio alot, the message was very strong. I’m not going to say “you’re in” or anything like that; I dont think we know enough about the process to make decisions such as that. Like the current NYU freshman said, he got in with a photo portfolio. I will say that you have a very good shot.

And like Jjohn said, qualified applicants get rejected from top schools. No one is “in” yet. (Well, thats not exactly true, but its impossible to say who is yet.)

Thoughts? Feedback?

It’s pretty hard to give feedback on that because it’s just like a highlight reel of work you did for your school’s TV show. Some of the stuff is cool, but I thought they were looking for 1 (or a few) projects that show storytelling. Some of them have stories, others dont.

I think Jjohn is right. They were looking for storytelling, and you didnt show that. In fact, the second to last one was just a bunch of b-roll edited together with no coherence whatsoever. You didnt even fix the clips so they were all either widescreen or full screen. And the one with the phones seemed to be just a fight sequence. And the one with the fruit was just dancing, with some of it, to be honest, rather sloppily done (the orange with the umbrella for example; instead of trying to rotoscope it you should have had the person dressed in a green screen suit or green clothing at the very least). You tried to show special effects skills and editing skills, but that isnt what Tisch is looking for. I’m more into special effects than writing as well, but i used next to no special effects (just some compositing animation, keying replacement, and selective opacity) in my video. I can do much more, but I knew that anything done for the sake of doing it and showing it off would just take away from the story. Sorry if i was harsh man, but I’m just calling it as I see it. I just dont think yours is up to par with the rest of the submissions I have seen.

do you guys know if ED helps

Theoretically it should. They have no limit to the amount of students they can take.
