Job/Work Experience: Tekwondo instructor, but not emphasized and not a paid position
Essays (subject and responses):wrote about the principles of taekwondo and how her understanding had evolved since the age of 5 - it was really personal, insightful and interesting
Teacher Recs: good I am sure but didnt read
Counselor Rec: expect good, but too many students to write about for it to have been terribly personal
Hook (if any): will be doing varsity crew at UVA - they took her stats to admissions ahead of time to get a “pre-read” on her chances of acceptance before they would even recruit her…I’m sure that didnt hurt to have her highlighted ahead of time, but they assured us she was given the thumbs up by admissions on her own merit, without needing help from coaches.
School Type: public
Ethnicity: cauc.
Gender: F
Strengths/Weaknesses: S: Very well-rounded, numerous leadership positions, dedication to her chosen pursuits, recruited by crew team, a couple of unique extracurriculars that are outside of school (taekwondo and piano); W: SATs certainly aren’t bad, but scores aren’t exceptional
Why you think you were accepted: see strengths above
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: UVA is tough to get into in or outside VA - many of my daughter’s classmates (top notch students) did NOT get in.</p>
