Seen rejection Today…OOS biology major Sat 1550 …not sure what went wrong…congrats all who got in…bye
Son was rejected. A little surprised , but not shocked. Engineering applicant. 36 ACT,NMSF, great extracurricular, internships, volunteer experience etc…3.4 GPA but upper trend and strongest rigor school offers. Ohio resident.
Purple and Gold is in the snail mail letter but not the myUW online thing. I got 4500/year. 3.98 UW, 1480 New SAT, 5 on Spanish, Calc AB, Gov. Took 5 AP/IB classes junior year, 4 senior year.
My D was accepted with almost-identical stats to @907ice and identical Purple & Gold award
9 AP’s total… 3.97UW, 1480 new SAT. $4500/year.
Applied to Honors but no email yet.
My son is trying to decide between SCU and DA to Foster. Cost will be about the same because SCU is offering a very good financial aid package making the net price very competitive (slightly lower than UW). UW is higher ranked for business than SCU by USNews and others; but I suspect that SCU offers better internship/employment opportunities due to its location. Any thoughts on SCU vs DA to Foster appreciated!!!
I got my acceptance email on the 16th/17th, received the snail mail letter about a week later (I’m an international student). I got 1500 on the new format SAT, had mostly Bs and Cs throughout my last two years of school (british system), but had lots of extracurriculars, plus writing is one of my strong suits so my essays probably pulled me up.
I’m confused about my major. My letter said Earth and Space Sciences - that’s fine. My unofficial transcript in the MyUW specifically says ESS: Geology. Is the transcript definite? Because I don’t remember choosing a track anywhere in my application and I was planning on doing the Environmental Earth Sciences track.
Also, is it very hard to change majors at UW? Not that I mind ESS, but recently I’ve started thinking about studying English. Lack of academic flexibility would be a huge drawback for me, plus I have an offer to UIUC Div of General Studies. The main thing putting UW over UIUC for me is that overall I think I will enjoy being at UW/in Seattle more.
Also does anyone know anything about performing arts opportunities at UW? I would like to perform in dance/theatre but idk what the opportunities are like for non-majors. I’ve been googling around but haven’t found any substantial information.
@ellyh0 , take a look at the Undergraduate Theater Society:
http://students.washington.edu/uwuts/
"The Undergraduate Theater Society (UTS) is a student-run, not-for-profit theater company serving the wider undergraduate community at the University of Washington. As a company we strive to offer opportunities in theatrical performance, production, and education by providing human, financial, and technical resources. UTS is run by an executive board comprised of current undergraduate students and operates out of the Cabaret Theater in Hutchinson Hall. The company produces a five show season along with events such as The New Works Festival, Quarterly Workshop Series, UTS Night Out, and Theater Dangerously.
“So What Does UTS do?
UTS seeks to makes the world of theatre accessible, empowering, and fun for all UW students (including majors and non-majors!).”
Here is the current season’s schedule:

Here are some reviews of recent shows:

Of note, the New Works Festival provides students from all majors an opportunity to write, produce and perform original plays:

Adding a note regarding your other question:
I don’t think it would be difficult to change your intended major from ESS to English, but you should contact the departments to confirm. I think the Freshmen Advising and Orientation sessions are where you select your course schedule based on your intended major(s) and minor(s).
How can I tell which degree program I was accepted into?
I got in hahah nICE
Is the Purple and Gold really the only scholarship for out-of-state students? I really want to go here but it’s rather expensive even compared to more expensive colleges I got accepted to, since they gave me bigger scholarships.
I haven’t heard anything from the office of admissions. Does this mean I will likely be rejected?
I was accepted by Johns Hopkins and UW + honors this past week. I am considering both options but would really love to attend UW; however, I have heard that the UW undergrads are treated like second-class students and the majority of profs care more about grad students and their own research. I love Seattle and UW but would definitely pay the extra money to attend Johns Hopkins and have profs that support my interests. I am just wondering if these stereotypes are true about UW profs and if so, to what extent?
Accepted! (about a week ago)
Major- Biochemistry
3.78 W, 3.6 UW
33 ACT- 33E 34M 32R 33S 8/12(essay)
OOS: California
Okay ECs (not much leadership), 7/10 essay, wrote it the afternoon before it was due (last minute decision to apply).
stats aren’t that impressive, but I think having transferred from another country in the middle of high school definitely gave me an advantage when it came to the essay.
I have a tough decision: I also got into UC davis and UC santa barbara and I’m not sure which would be the best choice. I feel like UW has the perfect balance between location and academics, while SB has location and Davis has academics (they have better life science programs than santa barbara). UW OOS tuition is also a bit much, so I’m waiting for them to release financial aid packages.
Congratulations to all the other people who got accepted! To those who didn’t, there are a lot of great schools out there! Don’t lose hope!!
Did anyone apply to bothell and not hear back yet? I applied to Seattle and got rejected but still haven’t heard back from bothell. If you were to get rejected from both schools would they have sent out rejections at the same time?
@ineeduw I’m pretty sure that since the three campuses are completely different entities, there’s no attachment. I know that UWT goes off rolling admissions, and it looks like bothell does that too. Did you apply a while back?
I’m honestly kind of surprised at how many cross applicants there are between WA/CA residents for the UW/UC systems. For those of you currently debating between either staying in state or moving away, what were your motivations for applying to your specific schools? How are you planning on deciding between your choices?
I’m currently waiting for Ivy Day/UCB decisions, but I don’t have much hope haha. Looks like the big decision’s going to come down to UW Seattle/UCLA/UCSD, so I’m curious as to what others’ thoughts are.
@valsedeladieu I applied November 30th! What is rolling admissions? Thanks for the reply.
@valsedeladieu I’m from CA and I applied to both UC’s and UW(and several private schools).
UW’s HCDE program really interested me and Seattle seems like a great city/UW a great school(and those cherry trees/library!!!).
I’m most likely going to stay in CA though, the main factor being…you guessed it, $$$money$$$.
Luckily, I received a full ride from one of the UC’s. I checked my Financial Aid Award Letter for UW earlier today and I would have to take out almost 40k in loans. I ain’t up for that.
There are still 4 schools I am waiting on, but my hopes aren’t too high for those.
I am interested in other people’s decisions/situations as well! All of these schools are great, so I’m sure everyone will be fine where ever we end up.
My teacher was talking yesterday and he said something like “UW had 48,000 applicants this year and 6,700 spots.” I told him I thought that they would offer more people admission but he said that they can only offer 6700 people admission (based on space available) and then they admit up to 2000 people off the wait list when some people choose somewhere else. If this is true, it means this year’s admission rate is around 14%, which would be lower than both UC Berkeley and UCLA, and comparable with some ivy league colleges. I dont know abouy the specific numbers he said but they were really close to the ones I gave. I know the admission rate went down this year, I just didn’t think it would be this much.
Do you guys have any thoughts as to whether or not this is true? If it isn’t true, do you guys have any thoughts as to what might be closer to the truth?
Also congratulations to those who were accepted to this amazing school! It’s a huge accomplishment, no matter what the acceptance rate actually is.
