@UWadmissionstaff
How is the waitlist organized? Is it based on a first-come basis based on the application date or waitlist date? Is it alphabetical or random? I understand it is not ranked so how is it organized?
Are the chances greater for an in-state student to make it off the waitlist? Are there separate waitlists for instate vs out of state students?
When do we get our acceptance packages?
@UWadmissionstaff Please kindly provide more info about how you organize waitlists. This is super important for us to make sensible decisions. Thanks.

Daughter accepted to Pre Social Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences but requested Education, Communities and Organizations in the College of Education. After researching a bit, looks like Pre Social Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences are online only classes. Does anyone know if she completes her GE’s online via Pre social sciences, can she then declare Education, Communities and Organizations in the College of Education once she has met the requirements?
Trying to find information, but it is not very clear.
Out of state (California)
ACT: 29

@2tiredmomma yes go to my.uw.edu then click on Application Status - then if admitted you should see:
the big W and “University of Washington,” under that
“Admission application information,” under that
“University of Washington Seattle campus” and under that
“Congratulations! We are pleased to offer you admission …” etc.
It’s not in big type or anything, just regular sized font.
My daughter also got an email today informing her that decisions were out and a link to check.
Thank you @CAtransplant. I’m wondering if the issue is that she just set up her ID? Could that affect what we are seeing? She received an email saying her admission status has been updated but when we log in there is no option to check admission status. I did notice it says it can take 24 hours for the ID to completely set up so maybe that’s why we can’t see it? I don’t know. Her home page just shows PCE, Quick links and resources.
The following webpage has information about specific majors and minors:
http://www.washington.edu/uaa/advising/degree-overview/majors/list-of-undergraduate-majors/
Clicking a major will take you to the UW General Catalog. Click “Undergraduate Program” on the right side of the screen for more information about admission pathways (including whether the major is one of the few with a freshman direct admission pathway) and prerequisites for admission to the major.
For example, according to the UW General Catalog, the admission requirements for the Education, Communities, and Organizations major are as follows:
- Satisfactory progress toward completion of general education requirements (minimum 60 credits);
- Completion of one English composition course (minimum 2.5 grade), EDUC 280 (minimum 2.0 grade), and minimum 2.50 overall GPA; and
- Application deadlines: April 15 for autumn admission; October 15 for winter admission. Depending on program capacity, applications may be considered after the deadlines.
Information sessions are offered to learn more about the major and how to apply. See schedule at education.uw.edu/programs/undergraduate/eco/admissions
For further information, see: education.uw.edu/programs/undergraduate/eco
Congratulations to your daughter!

Thanks so much @UWfromCA! - if I understand correctly, if she completes all the prerequisites for the ECO major then she is admitted even though she is admitted (and will complete all the perquisites) to UW as “pre social science”?
@2tiredmomma oh maybe that’s the issue - perhaps @UWadmissionstaff could shed some light on it. Hope she can get in and see the results soon!
@ProudMaaaMaaa , you’re welcome! That seems to be the case based on what is stated at the following webpage:
https://www.washington.edu/uaa/advising/degree-overview/majors/
"Pre-Major (pre-science, pre-humanities, etc)
“The vast majority of students enter UW as a pre-major (this includes pre-science, pre-humanities, etc.) This status simply means a student has not yet declared a major at UW. The type of pre-major a student is coded as correlates to what that student put on their UW application but does not impact a student’s choice of major later.”
Still, I suggest that you daughter contact the ECO Admission & Outreach Adviser to confirm:
https://education.uw.edu/programs/undergraduate/eco/advising
“Tabitha Bronsema, Admission & Outreach Adviser, supports high school students, transfer students, and returning students in exploring the ECO Major. Tabitha is available to meet with prospective students during drop-in advising (hours listed below) and 30-minute scheduled appointments (phone or in-person).”
My daughter was also accepted as a pre-social science major. It’s the track most have to do for social science and humanities degrees, I’m not sure where you are seeing the classes are online. My daughter is planning on an international studies degree but has to do the pre-social science track before declaring a major. Are you possibly seeing online classes in relation to the current closure of campus for a few weeks due to the virus?
@324nwmom - I think I was originally looking under Integrated social science as online. That is a major.
I now understand it’s only pre-social science. I am thinking she could of been pre something(?) within the college of education. Not sure if that makes a difference.
Does the information below indicate a direct admit to the Foster school? My son indicated it is a direct admit, but I just want to be certain we understand this correctly. (Please humor me on this basic question. I’m new at this whole college thing and not at all familiar with UW - thank you!)
“You requested the following major: Business Administration”
“Your assigned major: Business Administration in the Foster School of Business”
@patagonia2024, yes, your son is correct, and congratulations!
