Ohio State Class of 2026 Admission

Finally got access …drum roll…deferred. Really glad I spent the time applying EA. If I could ask for my application fee back I would.

2 deferred in OH (daughter’s classmates). 1 girl it is her top choice, so very disappointed. 1 girl now more set on Miami U. Oxford.

Deferral means your application is moved to the regular decision pool, right? Does this mean those who are deferred will not be eligible for merit scholarship?

D22 from VA was also deferred

I didn’t, but being in state I wasn’t expecting any anyways

“After an initial evaluation, your application has been referred for second review. A final decision will be
made by the end of March. You will receive further information by mail”

This is what my son got. I assume this means deferral? We live in Ohio.

deferred OOS! so what can we conclude from what seems like everyone being deferred?

seems it was a completely random group today that all got deferred. haven’t seen one acceptance/rejection. if the case was that it was an auto deferral, regardless of the strength of the application, that is very unfair to everyone who heard back today.

I believe they didn’t read any of these applications. Will be curious to see what happens today?

Deferred as well.

Just because OSU misplaced this group of early applicants doesn’t mean they should just drop them into the the big pile of regular decision applicants.

Decisions will be made on a rolling basis through the end of March;

I wonder if we could compare qualifications to see if all theses deferred kids are “on the bubble” type applicants? When we called admissions they told us the notifications order was all random meaning they did not notify top choice candidates first- that cannot be true if everyone that didnt hear on 1/21 got deferred (of course not everyone is on this forum so we will not know if others actually got an acceptance. )

DD was deferred. OOS, 3.9W, 3.7UW, test optional Deferral wasn’t a surprise but still curious if any of these applications were actually reviewed?

It can be that they had already marked them as deferred but did not send out the response on 1/21 or they are buying themselves more time. My friend heard from the admission office yesterday. The school said they did have a decision for them but they were trying to identify which responses had not been sent out. Sounds kinda silly in this day & age of technology… I absolutely wish this was not my son’s first choice. Fortunately his deferral opened him up to visiting other schools he was accepted to. I truly hope he falls in love with one of them so we can be done with this–I hate being disenchanted at this stage of the process. Unfortunately after missing 2 dates THEY chose, it’s hard not to be…

Based on the caliber of the applications I personally know of, these were not typical deferral candidates by any means and should have been admitted.

I knew my son was on the bubble- 4.3 weighted GPA- 7 AP’s 29 ACT (33 in reading) Spent most of his junior year online school because his high school closed due to COVID restrictions on distance apart- Lots of work and business experience not so heavy on sports and clubs. Applied to college of arts and science with a major of economics. Would be awful if no one reviewed his application because of a time crunch.

For what its worth, we experienced the exact same thing with my oldest at Penn State for Fall 19 admission process, applied EA and deferred - they at least sent out a communication admitting they were overwhelmed w/ applications and deferred a large chunk into main pool.

My daughter also applied to pre-nursing but has been deferred. OSU wasn’t her top choice anyway (and she’s been direct-admitted at her #1 choice, so it probably doesn’t really matter, but… a little blow to the ego for sure.)

Anyway, it’s my understanding that there technically is a direct admit option to nursing for OSU, but you’re only eligible if you’ve completed all of the pre-requisite classes via CCP/AP/IB or something. (The pre-reqs being all of the classes that pre-nursing freshmen are required to take before applying at the end of the year.) So, essentially, if you’ve completed all of those pre-reqs you can be directly admitted to the sophomore classes… but that seems very unlikely for most students.
