ACT writing scores were posted today.

@daisychain I attended a college app seminar with a local, well respected SAT prep company (the owners write sections of the Princeton Review books) and they told us about the short answer being back. I am assuming that they know what they are talking about.

Thanks Mugglemom. I guess time will tell.

D’s scores are released on the 9th. If she can’t get them before leaving the house at 8:10 it will be a very long day.

Thanks @giterdone, I didn’t realize the ACT writing scores had been posted. I just asked D to sign on to see if her scores was there. “Oh yeah, I got that couple days ago, I got an 11.” Yay! and why the heck didn’t she tell me?! She knows I am obsessing about this stuff! ~X( There seems to be a lot of that lately, just not thinking to mention things, like she is going to need a ride, or she has plans that are going to affect my plans…Is that happening in your homes?
So, great!!! Now I am not sure what to do with that writing score info.LOL It doesn’t affect the already posted composite score does it? I see there is a chart (<a href=“ACT Test Preparation | Test Prep Resources | ACT”>ACT Test Preparation | Test Prep Resources | ACT) to calculate your combined writing and English score. Looks like hers stays the same.
There is one school (Wellesley) on her list that will take the ACT with writing instead of subject tests With the vague input on what is ‘good’ in subject tests, she might be better off using the ACT. off to read more ACT score policies.

The writing score does not impact the composite. Not exactly sure what that writing score is good for :-? Maybe I am missing something?

My D also asks me things at the last minute- for example she asked me at 10 pm if I have any red white and blue stickers that she needs for tomorrow morning. Sometimes she will remember that she did not buy a gift when the party is in an hour…

Thanks @MuggleMom.

@twogirls, that’s why we have 24-hour Walgreens.

No ACT Writing score here.

In 30 Days the Common Application Goes Live for Class of 2015.

The essay prompts did not change from last year and are as follows:
https://appsupport.commonapp.org/link/portal/33011/33013/Article/1694/2014-15-Common-Application-Essay-Prompts

2014-15 Common Application Essay Prompts
The Common Application will retain the current set of first-year essay prompts for 2014-15, without any edits or additions. The essay length will continue to be capped at 650 words. The feedback received from member colleges and school counselors has been positive. The essay prompts will be reviewed on an annual basis to ensure that they continue to serve students and member colleges well.

Some students have a background or story that is so central to their identity that they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.

Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what lessons did you learn?

Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you make the same decision again?

Describe a place or environment where you are perfectly content. What do you do or experience there, and why is it meaningful to you?

Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.

This is quite a group. Thank you for everyone’s contribution. I am learning a lot!

Saly305 I think we may have a 24 hour CVS- it may come in handy!!

BHM thanks. She is still trying to decide whether she should do the shorter essay as well- the one about the EC or job. There seems to be some controversy as to whether it will be on the common app this year. Mugglemom was told it is but for some reason others seem to think not. I think she will just wait and see.

@goaskdad I got a good laugh out of that Deers do not attack far as I know. :)

Actually, I was surprised at the list of schools that require or recommend the ACT writing test score.

<a href=“Colleges that Require the ACT Writing Test”>http://collegeapps.about.com/od/theact/a/colleges-that-require-act-plus-writing.htm.

You can search the ACT database for your school(s) and see what they told ACT about the writing test.

I agree that most schools want the ACT with writing despite the fact that it is not part of the composite. They do seem to use it for placement. I also know kids ( engineering students) who had English requirements waived due to top scores on that section of the ACT. My D has a higher essay score on the SAT compared to the first ACT, and she has a higher essay score on her second ACT compared to her first, but her composite ( and each section) is higher on the first. It’s enough to make your head spin.

3 of D’s school have a ACT writing score for admission or the calculated score for SAT ; USF I recall minimum was 24> for admission purpose.

@GoAskDad - Attacking deer… Too funny!

Adding D’s info… Happy 4th!

WOW I had no idea that this ship had so many passengers! What a party this will be come May of 2015.
I guess we could use some good music…
Hint
Have a great 4th and take time to thank those who made this happen for us and our kids.

Let’s see . . . . I’ve got a Hoosier requesting music. This one may remind you of the days when Charly Butcher just about wore it out on the old WMEE. (And I’m old enough to remember when he was a rock and roll DJ.)

I hope y’all have a great Fourth with cold beverages, a hot grill, and no “smile and nod” moments with relatives or friends over the college search. Start early!

Looks like the roller coaster of DH unemployment is about to end. He did not get dream job with the tuition benefit, but did get another job offer. We will be right back in the doughnut hole and so grateful to be there. Back to looking at schools with merit.
