Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

D is in different sizes depending on store. She recently bought a few pair of “pixie pants” in black, navy at Old Navy and they fit well and look very nice with a dressy top.

@Booajo and @PhilaSkiMom, how is your summer and college preparations going? Have your Ds gotten the dorm they wanted?

@Justathought1 @Undercovermom1 @readingclaygirl Please know that I am not dead and gone. Between the whirlwind of high school graduation (with all the accompanying grad parties) and having to prepare for my trips, I have not had much time at all! College Confidential has always been sitting there at the back of my mind, and I fully intend on finishing my reflection on the college application season. Traveling has been amazing and I am grateful for the experiences that I’ve had so far.

Some updates: I was assigned to Calhoun College and received my rooming assignment. I will be in a suite with five other people and have a single room! I have bonded with many of my fellow freshman and upperclassmen too. Met up with some other Yalies in Los Angeles as well as in Seoul, South Korea.

@sseamom I can definitely understand why you think I might have been pulling your leg. I assure you however, that I did not. Here is the link to an article written about me. I was not contacted by any news outlets besides this one.

If you would like further confirmation, I would be happy to provide!

I’ll probably drop in every so often, though I cannot guarantee that I’ll be active during college.

Good to hear from you @frenchtoastlover - nice article. Good Luck to you this fall.

Thank you very much @bookmom7!

@frenchtoastlover Nice article. Welcome back.

@frenchtoastlover so happy to hear that your summer is going well. Great article. We parent types like to hear back from our “little chicks” from time to time, so do drop in whenever you get a chance and let us know how you are doing.

@Ballerina016 Thank you! @Undercovermom1 Haha, will do!

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I also entered an essay contest and my personal statement will be featured in the Best College Essays 2016! Still not sure if I will get money or not, since they haven’t released results and only first and second place winners win money. Will provide an update when I find out.

Thanks for the update, @frenchtoastlover . Best wishes in college!

Thanks for asking, @mommdc! S got the dorm he wanted!

Good luck in college, @frenchtoastlover ! Thanks for sharing the article.

DD got her first choice dorm, but a triple not a double as she wanted. I believe she can change room size during REX.

You may want to consider putting a credit freeze on your child’s credit report. Identity theft is rampant nowadays.

@frenchtoastlover So proud of you! I just read the article and I love that fact that you posted it here.

I saw this fun video two weeks ago and thought of you, @frenchtoastlover . https://youtu.be/tGn3-RW8Ajk

Just returned from orientation , and we are both exhausted. I think that it finally hit DS that there’s pretty much " 2 girls for every boy." He’s been smiling all day. ( Not that he’ll ever do anything about it .)

I thought y’all may appreciate this. The director of student affairs said that if you go longer than you’d like without hearing from your child , she recommends getting a card and writing inside " We love you and we miss you, and to show you just how much we’ve enclosed a $ 100 Visa gift card" but don’t include one. She said you’ll hear from them promptly. :))

That’s a hoot. My D16 was just saying she is hoping that there will be more that two types of guys at college. She hoping that half of the guys won’t just be constantly gaming and lacking in hygiene. And that the other half won’t be beer-swinging bro-jocks. She doesn’t see any potential relationships if that is the case. – Of course, she was wildly stereotyping, but I guess she’s hoping the young men will have decent social skills, no matter what.

Whoa.

Talk about a college registration story

All this talk about college girl to guy ratios makes me laugh because a question a mother asked at orientation yesterday was “How will my daughter ever get married going to a women’s college?” Later she said very loudly “I knew I shouldn’t have let you come here”

@readingclaygirl I think her perception of college is stuck somewhere before 1960.
