Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

@HappyFace2018 wow; interesting that you live so near Kokomo. The Storm Prediction Center had initially held back on upping the tornado risk but once it became clear that low level speed shear and backed winds were giving rise to numerous strong to violent tornadoes invof the Northern Ohio Valley, they really (in conjunction with local national weather service offices) ramped up the threat/wording of their warnings accordingly. I was alarmed by the number of Tornado Emergencies and Particularly Dangerous Situation warnings the NWS was issuing for what was forecasted to not be anything of note. It just goes to show that, even in the absence of other modes or severe weather, these mid-scale supercells can really put out some vigorous tornadic activity. Still, tornadoes are awesome. Glad y’all are safe.

How long would you all say it takes to move packed items from a staging area in the house out and load a van? I have no conception of what kind of time it takes (two people loading). Please advise. Many thanks!

@dyiu13 Depends on the two people and the items and the distance. Can’t help with so little information but yiu dyiu. 20 minutes? ( ͔° ĶœŹ– ͔°)

Good luck to all those moving in today! It gets better-I promise!

Well! 5 1/2 hours in and 4 1/2 to go!! It’s been a great trip this far!!

Lots of good wishes to @readingclaygirl and @HappyFace2018 and any others traveling and moving in today!!

@dyiu13 - if your staging area is close to the door, and your size/shape/volume of stuff will readily fit in the van, 20-30 minutes should be more than enough time.

@RyanG1207 @me29034 They keep the kids VERY BUSY during orientation week. So hopefully you will hear from them more by the weekend.

Thanks @dbjs70 and @mommdc. I hope it does get better! :((

If you aren’t hearing from them, then hopefully everything is going well! I’ve heard too much - fridge is freezing everything; printer refuses to work with computer; books ordered a while ago still not in but assignments are due; u-locks are annoying to use. lol!

Have you found yourself wondering, at a particular class time, what the professor is teaching and how those 50 minutes are going? I sort of wouldn’t mind switching places!

So exciting reading about everyone’s grand adventures. We are moving my kiddies this weekend. Tonight we are doing a dry run to see if we can cram 2 kiddies worth of stuff into 1 mini van.

Quick question. Does anyone still have the links to the power of attorney and medical POA downloads? I went back what felt like a million pages and still didn’t find it and have an appointment with the notary tomorrow.

Thanks!

@MuggleMom

We used Legal Zoom, by state. It was straightforward, and surprisingly NOT frustrating.

Just checking in. Moved S in on Sunday. Quick and smooth. He’s in a recently redone dorm so everything is new and very nice. The only downside is it connects now to another form so it is very large. There are 92 kids on his floor. His roommate and family seemed very nice. We left late on Sunday afternoon and drove 6 hours north to visit my D. Had several relaxing days and saw my D each night. No word from S as expected.

Now we are back at school. We went with S to buy his books and have lunch. He decided he wanted to take a nap so we are just hanging out. It is crazy hot and humid today so I can’t tolerate much walking outside. So glad we got to move S on Sunday when it was pleasant. S seemed to like his pre-orientation program and got friendly with the dozen kids in his group. Tonight is Convocation. I think that is when this will hit me- I’m leaving two kids here in the Midwest.

Hope everyone’s move ins are going well.

Just checked into the hotel and unloaded all of the stuff  Thank you Father God!! Now if someone could provide me with an alternate route around the Capital Beltway each time we come into Falls Church, VA I’d love that. The hotel is absolutely great! Location and all!

I’m all moved in. All is well. Only issue is with my FM system- the company sent the wrong piece.

Congrats @readingclaygirl! Happy for you!

It’s crazy to report but my son is very happy at UF. I’m still waiting for a shoe to drop, and holding my breath like I have for the past 9+ years of homeschooling. It has been absolutely astonishing (in a pleasant way) to see him fly like this. Wow.

Thank you God! That’s all I can say.

I hope the company gets the right piece to you ASAP @readingclaygirl ! Glad to hear so many are moved in and beginning the adjustment piece. I would swap places with DS just because he has much better weather right now, but I would want to switch back before Christmas.

I hope so too @Cheeringsection the college is getting it ordered and overnighting it so it should be here by Monday

@SouthFloridaMom9 I completely understand how you feel. DS16 is loving his school. He is connecting well with his suitemates , forming great relationships with his Honors and ELLC advisor. He has signed up for an additional online CS class that his advisor is teaching that looks at the business and security practices of local companies. He’s very excited. He also learned that the class that was originally going to conflict with the Cybersecurity club is not , so he and several of his suitemates just went to their first meeting. But perhaps one of the best pieces of news is one of the main reasons that he was looking so heavily at Wofford was a professor with NSA experience and research grant for grant for Cybersecurity has left Wofford
and is now at CofC and leading the Cybersecurity team . Hacking is one of her many specialities . She is looking for research assistants . He is over the moon. Like you I am waiting for the other shoe to drop , but right now he is settling in nicely .

@carolinamom2boys - oh my goodness I loved reading your #24237 . . . have been wondering how your son (and you) were doing! That is wonderful to see. Way to go team!!!

And thank you! :x

@readingclaygirl - sending good vibes for a speedy delivery of the piece you need.
