Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

Congratulations @carolinamom2boys

@Ballerina2016 I’m not looking forward to rejections either . Still holding tight to the Eeyore philosophy. It’s worked thus far .

@lonetreegrad Thanks. Ice cream works at our house too.

@carolinamom2boys Congratulations. That is wonderful!

Congratulations @carolinamom2boys ! Does he have to do anything further like interview or just wait?

@carolinamom2boys Congratulations!!!

I am pretty happy DD does not fall in love with any of her school she chose to apply.

@Cheeringsection His GC sends everything and we wait. If he’s selected to compete for other scholarships, he has to interview in Feb or March.

Thanks everyone.

@carolinamom2boys Very excited for your son! Is this one of his top choices?

@Ballerina2016 I’m as prepared as I can be to support my S16 through rejections. He’s had disappointment already. He says there’s no one school that really stands out as THE ONE, and he can get excited about any of them. I think he’ll be fine. It will hurt to be rejected, no question. But he’s got an entrepreneur’s optimism and is quick to find a new plan. That’s why I’m ultimately not worried – wherever he goes I think he’ll be fine, eventually.

Meanwhile, we’ve locked each other out of the College Board site because we have each reset the password without remembering to tell each other.

@crowlady It is one of the schools he applied to. It was his top choice for quite some time. Very close between all five schools he’s applied to. Thanks.

Received an invitation from the GC to attend an info session on the local CSU’s presidential scholarship. This year you can only apply if invited. Looks like S was invited. It is a full ride, but it is his safety.

S16 got a B in English for the first time sine the first quarter of Sophomore year. It may have been the first time since then that he didn’t get a D.

Congrads @lknomad ! All scholarship invitations are awesome.

Congrats @LKnomad and @mstomper
Great news all around tonight!

How often are the parents who got a 4 on the AP English exam thrilled to see him get a B in Honors English? If he barely falls short of the biggest Temple scholarship his grades this year could put him over the top.

Rejections…D will take it much better than S will. She has a first choice but is so completely Eeyore abut her chances. S, otoh…he’s in love. He desperately wants to go to one of two schools, one of which is an EA application. As long as he gets into that one it doesn’t matter where else he gets in. If he doesn’t…oy. It will not be the best of all possible Christmases.

On a brighter note, there are a couple of schools in his late March group that he’d be perfectly happy with, and I think he has an excellent shot at them. Possibly sending the EA applications was not such a good idea…
And congratulations, @carolinamom2boys , @mstomper , and @LKnomad !

I know if I get rejected from my match/safety school which is also my dream school, the tears will flow because that’s the type of person I am. But I also know that if necessary I would come around to attending the local CC especially since a good friend of mine is heading there. I’m just trying to be as optimistic as possible waiting for December 15th

After my S14 finished reading the rejection letter from USC he looked up at me and said, ā€œI will root against their football team for the rest of my natural life.ā€

@readingclaygirl I’m a crier too. I see it as a sign of strength, not weakness. Hopefully, you won’t need to find out how strong you are.

@AsleepAtTheWheel , that’s the spirit! :wink:
