@carolinamom2boys – My wife and I cry if the wrong contestant wins on Jeopardy.
My son applied Early Decision to his dream school. He has wanted to attend there for many years. He is also a recruited athlete for the college so a rejection would be very hard. He has already been admitted to his second choice school. If he is not admitted then I will remind him that his #2 choice is still a good fit. Plus he would have the option of playing club or intramural sports.
So DS got an email request for an interview at UMich that came yesterday (11/3). But others he knows have gotten that and requests for interviews for even fancier picks (e.g. HYPSM). In fact, now that I think of it, my DS got the M request for interview just after paying and giving his name, not with any piece of the application at all (that interview is this Sunday). It doesn’t matter when the request comes, does it? I feel I’m headed down the rabbit hole of over-interpretation!! I hope that a Pitt acceptance comes soon so we’ll know, “he’s going somewhere”…
ETA - by “M” above I meant MIT re the interview this Sunday, which I realize was woefully unclear having just mentioned Mich!!
So to recap:
- DS got the Mich request quickly (applied EA)
- DS got the MIT request before real application (applying RD)
- DS has not heard from his other EA school(s) at all re interviews
Wow so much has been going on and I have had trouble keeping up with traveling to tour last school before acceptances, deferrals or rejections come out. So sorry to hear about the Drexel issue. That is an awful situation! We passed Drexel several times while navigating around the Philly traffic on our way to the U Penn info session and tour. My D absolutely loved it and it now shares the top spot with Duke. Not that she is holding the bar too high now? LOL. Talk about the quintessential reach school…Believe me I have spoken at length to my D about the realities of an acceptance to either of these schools, but this is the path she wants to take. I ride along on this path with god and the occasional glass of wine. LOL.
Super congrats to all receiving acceptances and scholarship offers! So awesome to have such wonderful situations so early in the process. Thrilled for all your children being in such an enviable positions! It is my true hope that all of our kids get all they hope and desire…they (and we from the sidelines) certainly work hard enough for them! I have come to truly enjoy riding this wave with everyone here on CC - cheering for all the successes and tearful when things do not go right or as hoped!.
As of today, College Board FINALLY shows that my DC’s SATs have gone to the three schools we requested on Oct. 22. I can relax for a minute.
Congratulations to everyone! I have fallen behind, trying to read what I can. We have all done the best we can and all we can do is hope for the best.
DD was selected as a Questbridge finalist - she is applying to 3 schools thru Questbridge. She has a total of 11 schools on her list - she still has a 11/15 deadline and will probably send all the rest at that time. She has been accepted to four - one full ride and honors college, the other accepted into honors college but we will not find out about her final merit monies until January. It has been tense at times but we have waded thru it. I am sure there is much more to come…
Best of luck to her with Questbridge!
@lonetreegrad I wonder if there is more of an issue with certain college’s electronic method of receiving scores? We have not had the same experience with a long delay. S16’s scores were all from last year - his final testing was done in June. Perhaps could it be an issue with scores from recent tests?
We requested SAT scores for two apps on 10/28 and they were sent on 11/2 ( 5 days). We requested SAT scores for three more apps on 11/1 and they were sent today, 11/4 (3 days). Those timeframes were all reasonable. So sorry for the extremes other folks are experiencing. Not sure why the experience is so varied across the board.
Thanks, @petrichor11 !!
@carolinamom2boys and @LKnomad - Congrats to your sons!
@4kids2graduate Thanks. They were scores for the October 3rd SAT subject tests and June 6th SAT I test. I was getting ready to call them this morning and checked D’s account and noticed that all scores were finally sent this morning, except for the one safety school that was ordered on Oct 15th! I am not too worried about that one. I am glad the EA schools have the requested scores now. I think I will ask D to send her scores to the rest of the RD schools now. She is not finished with those apps yet, but I don’t want more stress with those.
@Sophmore1 Good luck on Questbridge
Thank you @lonetreegrad !
@lonetreegrad @4kids2graduate And to make things even more confusing, we’ve got a college saying they’ve received the 10/3 SAT scores but College Board is saying that the same score sends are still pending to that school. I’m trying to just let go and only follow up if there are complaints.
@crowlady That is confusing!! In that case, I will just let it go too. As long as these colleges have the scores, I don’t care what College Board website is saying. I am hoping that they are grading these tests much better than the way they maintain their website and score reporting!!
It looks like Prepscholar may have gone out of business. They have not responded to anyone since Oct 20th.
The Ivy interviews are scheduled once the application has been submitted to the school.
Those who are applying to MIT are assigned an interviewer the day they open the app. However, they have a deadline to complete the interview much earlier than the app is due - the EA date has long passed while RD date is December 10th or so.
@Dragonflygarden I think you might be right when I saw someone complaining that they couldn’t get a response I tried to call for myself because that was not the experience I had with them all but the call just rang and rang, not even an answering machine picking up.
@Dragonflygarden and @3scoutsmon I have had good luck contacting Allen here on CC. Worth a try…
We have an acceptance!
D got the big envelope from Florida Gulf Coast University today. She’s not in love yet, but she’s pretty happy with it. She and her dad will probably drive down to revisit it in a week or so.
