@Ballerina016 thank you for the link about the UCs. Of the campuses, D’s top choice right now is UCLA, but I’m afraid after looking at this information that her chances are slimmer than I thought. Her GPA for UC purposes is around 4.18. It looks like in 2014 that the admit rate for students with a GPA of 4.20 and above was 56% and for a GPA between 3.80 and 4.19 it was only 16%. Yikes! I noticed that SAT scores weren’t included in the data presented. I’ll just have to cross my fingers that her high SAT score will help her (as well as her essays, of course)!
Some catching up to do…
@AsleepAtTheWheel hilarious joke, I will have to tell my friend.
@sseamom, your sleep habits sound exactly like my wife’s.
@grlscoutmom congrats to your D
@carolinamom2boys heartfelt goodbye to your S childhood.
@LKnomad, I am glad your S interview went well
At my school valedictorian is not announced until the Baccalaureate, but it is on transcripts so kids know where they stand.
More UC news…this should be good news for the class of 2016.

DD was contacted for alum interview this weekend. The interviewer is an executive editor of a major media and DD is a little bit nervous.
Good luck to your DD @NYDad513 ! I am sure she will be just fine.
@NYDad513 Best of luck to your D on her interview!
Good luck!
@NYDad513 Good Luck to your daughter. She’s got this!
Thanks a lot.
I realized it’s already mid-November. RD apps will start about a month later, unreal…
Good luck to your daughter @NYDad113
Good luck to her, @NYDad513 !
Best of luck to your D @nydad513 - I’m sure she’ll knock the interviewer’s socks off!
Strangest Scholarship notification…DD received an email yesterday regarding a scholarship and it is due in 4 days!!! It will be tough as she has to have teacher recommendations too! What were they thinking!! We have been waiting till it came out as it is a really nice one; however, with only 4 days…she is going to have to call and find out what is going on.
Nydad-your D has always sounded like an amazing kid to me-she’s got this!
Oct. 14 SAT scores came out this morning for D’s school, LK. Not as good as we’d have liked, but will qualify D for some full rides and full tuitions at some of the schools on her list. Now the finger-crossing begins. She was also forwarded two new scholarship opportunities that rely more on her leadership and volunteering. She meets with one of the administrators on Monday.
Sophomore-4 days isn’t much at all! Good luck to your D!
@Sophmore1 Sometimes I think that they do this to limit the number of applicants, see how well students work under pressure and ensure that they themselves right the essay instead of hiring someone to do it or help with it.
@sseamom the scores don’t make sense at all. My son who got an 800 in math on an earlier SAT and an 800 on the SAT 2 got a 740 in math. His reading score came out in the 600s after two SATs in the 700s. I question the validity and reliability of the scores. Glad we are not depending on them.
LK, ours were lower too, though D never hit 800 on anything before this anyway. I heard that the Sept. ACT had much lower scores on average too. It’s all so stressful.
D16 left for a fly-in weekend with my husband last night. She will see two schools in the Midwest. Has been admitted to one of them officially.
Somewhat tricky to arrange with the winter sport in progress and a DE college class to consider. They flew all night and went directly to the college to meet with admissions counselor. Then she is on her own for lunch with a coach, attendance at a class, then the official weekend opening event tonight. The only sleep will be the 4-5 hours on the plane. It’s the reality of college visits from our locale, and the reason we haven’t done much of it.
Both colleges offered some travel reimbursement, so between that, frequent flier miles, and a relative who lives in the area offering lodging and transport for my husband, we got the trip mostly covered.
She will be home for a day next week, then she and I leave for a scholarship interview and 2 more college visits in the southern bit of the U.S.
Another acceptance! Waiting on the actual paperwork, though. ACT scores ordered weeks ago still pending for some schools. Grr.
Congrats @sseamom
