I sort of bit the bullet today and filled out the financial section of FAFSA, marked will file on the tax forms but I did look up balances on all of our accounts/assets…sigh. This was supposed to be my husband’s job related to the whole college search. He has been decidedly handsoff. Unfortunately he was called away on an unexpected business trip last friday and it does not look like he will be home before Monday. We were supposed to tackle FAFSA/TAXES this weekend. One of D16’s schools has a Feb 1 priority deadline, so the FAFSA task has fallen to me.
I’ve tried really really hard to keep my head in the sand about recent downturns in the “market”. My husband keeps an account summary excel sheet that he normally updates monthly, apparently he tried to keep his head in the sand too, he hadn’t updated the summary since the end of October so there was a bit of extra legwork on my part trying to decipher his engineers handwriting to input the usernames and passwords on the account websites to gather the account balances. I had expected to just pull up the excel account summary and viola be done. Just need him to take a look at it tonight and sign off to submit.
Thank you for all the congrats, though D was the one who did all the work! She just said that when she did her “vision board” for one of her classes, it had included a picture of a group of black graduates, and she hadn’t even noticed that it was from Fisk until after she presented it. She’s taking that as a sign!

We have good news as well-- D was admitted to her first choice, Eckerd College, despite not-terribly-impressive test scores! They included a note at the bottom of the acceptance telling her they loved her essay. So happy for this kid. I think this will be an awesome school for her.

I returned home from work today to find a Fed Ex envelope . Because DS16 is not waiting for anymore acceptances, I thought it was for my husband or me so I opened it . Inside was another envelope from one of my son’s financial reach schools inviting him to an interview weekend for substantial scholarships which would probably make it affordable. I did not open the envelope , but the outside read " Congratulations , you’re invited." I texted a picture to him and he won’t be home until 5:30. I’m ready to bust!

What does your son want to study? YES-W is geared towards top STEM students and the fact that people don’t consider Y to be a peer of other serious contenders.
@petrichor11 : I love the way you’ve spoken of the acceptance of your child to college. Do you have two children going in to college at the same time?

I am eyeing a small, religious women’s college for the next girl out for the particular attention it gives to the girls, and the way the alumna speak of their time their. You really get a sense of their wings expanding. Surprises me, though, as we are not a religious family in any way. Still, what calls to you, calls to you.
