Evidently DS16 does as well, @petrichor11 . One more accepted student weekend at his third choice this weekend, and then he’ll most likely commit early next week.
Congrats to all and especially @palm715 from a Northeastern parent!
Yay palm715!
Congrats to @palm715 and good luck with the decision-making @carolinamom2boys !
D16 and DW are off to the sunny Florida skies tomorrow for a two day accepted student/honors program visit. Wish they could stay for the weekend and have a bit more time to do things other than visit the school, but D has an academic competition on Saturday and can’t miss it. Then a week off for Easter. followed by one last visit the next weekend. Should hear on the scholarship weekend that just passed by then, so it will be decision time in one month from today (according my the deadline mean old Dad imposed).
Longest…month…ever… (-;
Congrats @crowlady !! Your DC and Palmkid made the night a good one.
Re: applications being withdrawn…
D16 applied early on to one school (large oos public, fwiw, non-selective). She decided mid-January that she wasn’t interested after all and let deadlines for honors application and financial aid pass by, despite the pleas of multiple e mails to get the information in.
She tried to withdraw application, but her portal password had expired, and, oddly enough, renewing it required a PHONE CALL to the school. Weird. The extra effort seemed a bit much, so this task went by the wayside for a while.
But a few weeks ago, she finally e mailed an admissions person, explaining the intention to withdraw the application and the difficulty doing so. The person said it would be taken care of.
So the e mails continue, and this week she received an acceptance to their honors college, for which she didn’t apply (too many essay questions).
I think the left hand and the right hand really need to talk.
Aw, @palm715, how sweet is that!!
Thanks so much for all the aloha! I really had no idea how less-than-enthused she was by her choices up to this point. I just thought she was being her typical reserved herself. She has lots more decisions to go, but now if the news is not good, it will hurt, but I don’t think it will be soul-crushing. My hope is we all get at least one day like this. :x
Anyone think Malia has any of her college admissions decisions in hand yet?
I thought the protocol was to deposit on housing if needed, but not deposit on enrollment until you were ready to withdraw all the “unchosen.”
Oh, @palm715 Ho’omaika’i 'Ana!! I wish you could see the huge grin on my face! Best. News. Ever!
Congrats on UCSC! @crowlady
Two of my son’s colleges required a deposit on enrollment before you could make a housing deposit.
DS’s school requires a joint housing/enrollment deposit before summer, class scheduling visit can be reserved. The refund policy is the very next sentence in the materials so they understand that circumstances can change. The two schools not yet notified are huge and not extremely selective.
@dyiu13 I expect she may have one or two in hand, because I can see Michelle telling her she can’t think she’s all that and going to get in everywhere just because her name is Obama (even though she probably will). But I expect she’ll probably be hearing on the bulk of her schools in two weeks.
Wouldn’t it be a laugh if FLOTUS joined this thread? And I wonder where Malala Yousefzai has applied to school? Stanford and Oxford for starters, according to the internet…?
@petrichor11 - FLOTUS may well be one of us.
We’ll wait for a post from someone at Junior Member status (because who has time when you’re FLOTUS, right?) - it will say something like, “We’re a URM family in the process with some legacy and connections. It’s awkward because my MIL also is involved in the decision process since she lives with us. There’s so much pressure because DD1 goes to one of those crazy competitive high schools and we have DD2 on the horizon a couple years later. Also, we have to move for DH’s job next winter, so we’re dealing with that.”
Lol. My D has a lot of friends, and of course, some of those friends have friends in DC who are friends with Malia - and that rumour grapevine has her attending NYU or Stanford.
@Booajo, @negirl508, and @sseamom your kids sound exactly like my S in terms of making up that list of finalist schools, and what we’ve done to try and help him make the decision. We too have accepted days coming up in a few weeks an hope something will click. Nice to know we’re not the only ones going through this same sort of process.
