OMG, that’s perfect!
Now we just need Malala and/or Malia “chance me” posts, with the inevitable “you know those schools are a crap shoot for anybody” responses.
Envisioning M&M roommates…it would save on the security budget, I guess!

You’re so right, @petrichor11 I can imagine those threads!!
I just had a disheartening talk with my D last night. She found out that she was waitlisted at one of her schools. This isn’t her top choice school but it got her thinking that if she got waitlisted for this school that she won’t get in at all to the other schools she applied to. Her acceptance streak is over (kind of). But I felt so bad because she was literally depressed over this. And usually she doesn’t show emotions. But I was kind of mad at myself for a bit because I’m so good in knowing what the decisions are before she does. I’m more of a stalker on her school’s website than she is.
Common! Why every first D needs to go to S! How about being original?
@mrsquietstorm9 that’s almost the exact conversation I had with my D. She thinks she won’t get in anywhere else. Now she’s in several perfectly fine schools, 2 of which will be on her final list no matter where else she gets in, but still, she’s so depressed.
I thought there was a conversation here a couple months ago about whether or not you should put an enrollment deposit down, yet still keep other schools in the running. Didn’t someone bring up that IF it is a Common App school - there is an “agreement” on CA about committing/depositing, and taking other schools off the list/withdrawing?
I never saw anything on CA since S16 was very private and did not want me to see/look over his application, other than helping review his first couple of essays (after that, essays were off limit as well).
Perhaps someone else here can weigh in who actually knows what the statement is on CA?
@4kids2graduate I think this is the wording: Required: I affirm that I will send an enrollment deposit (or equivalent) to only one institution; sending multiple deposits (or equivalent) may result in the withdrawal of my admission offers from all institutions.
Unfortunately, when housing is dependent on enrollment deposits, it makes it extremely difficult not to make a deposit or deposits when you still don’t have all of the financial information so that you can make a firm decision.
@Justathought1 Agreed-- and I really think the offense that Common App and NACAC is concerned with is having double deposits on May 1 or later. At this point in the search all acceptances can be held (with or without deposit) as it is understood that all offers are not required to be complete until April 1. Though it is nice (ethical) to let go those that are clearly not in contention.
After yesterday’s discussion on not withdrawing applications from schools DC will definitely not attend, I asked her to do it for a few schools and was really surprised how difficult it is to withdraw application from CalStates. Anyone here knows how to do it?
We haven’t gotten FA quotes from S’s EA schools yet, so nobody’s entirely out of the running. Pretty much whoever gives him a good FA package is a contender.
@petrichor11 that is exactly the spot we are in. I hope we get this soon so we can free up spots for others.
We have given 1 school a firm no. And they stopped sending stuff. However, a few schools she did not even apply to continue to send us info, including how to apply for FA!
Also, D has two schools outstanding, but told me last night they were out of the running because they were “too slow”. Ok–guess this is what the accelerated time table does, at least to my kid.
@4kids2graduate most of the rolling flagships aren’t on Common App, so many of the schools people have noted depositing on above would not apply.
Some old timers on this thread might remember - S decided he wanted to apply to musical theater programs as well last year. So, he has two lists - one for “regular” schools and another for “MT” schools. He had one acceptance to an MT school until yesterday, couple of rejections and was sort of giving up on that list, but got another acceptance to an MT school yesterday with a nice scholarship. Very unexpected! So, now all schools including MT schools will be back in play and he’s still waiting for several more decisions.
Sigh - we all went on a cruise - “SS Indecision” during D’s 2011 college application season and I was one of the last to disembark that cruise. Might be the same again this time around…
I’ve been lurking around this discussion group for a few weeks now. I really enjoy reading all the posts and learned a lot. Here is my first post:
My son got Rensselaer Leadership Award $19, 000 per year. But when we run RPI Net Price Calculator, it says the Estimated Rensselaer Grants/Scholarship would be $29,400. Just wondering why there is such a huge difference. Is it normal?
This is what happens when you don’t have access to any of your child’s portals. D came to my room late last night and said she misread the aid package in her excitement. So now affordable is more like stretch if Northeastern ends up being the absolute winner. I’m still thrilled, but she’s decided to go back to being miserable.
That virtual BBQ on May 1st we joked about a few months back can’t come soon enough. I remember thinking it was funny that more people offered to bring booze over food. Now I see it makes perfect sense.
@Sean67208 I’m afraid I don’t know the answer to your question but my daughter was also accepted to Rensselaer over the weekend. It’s probably my favorite for her of the schools she applied to. I would suggest contacting financial aid to see if there’s a way to increase the award.
Perhaps it should be a virtual Happy Hour event on May 1st…and forgo the food. Probably many of us have been overeating for awhile, secondary to vascillating stress levels during this process!
@Sean67208 did the calculator you mention calculate need based aid? Sounds like the leadership scholarship is merit based. Have you received your FA package or just a merit award?
