Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

Congratulations @Ballerina016

@Ballerina016 the Mudd decisions don’t come out until 6:30. How did she find out?

Congratulations @Mysonsdad for UCLA

Congratulations everyone!

Thanks, all. I knew I came to the right place. @skates76 - she definitely has expressed an aversion to being “college poor”. I appreciate that concept having been there, done it. @texaspg - good to know that others have been in my boat! @waiting2exhale - far, far from edgy with you. More like worried that you are stalking my family, you know us so well. Your words made me a little teary but only in the best of ways. Thank you. @booajo - maybe you and I will weather this together. I recognize that it is a good problem to have overall. Congrats to all of the folks who have had amazing news this week. Today is bring your own cup slurpee day if you have 7-11s where you live. Maybe that is an alternative to ice cream for bad news?

@frenchtoastlover: Actually, I was wondering how the vastly different landscapes, size and scope of the schools that made it onto your list got there. I can’t remember too well these days, but I know I saw Sarah Lawrence recently.

And I’m not knocking you, just asking. I love Bowdoin especially - want to go there myself.

Congratulations @LKnomad for UCLA.

Congrats on UCLA- @Ballerina016, @Mysonsdad, @indsfolax, @frenchtoastlover & @LKnomad ! <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P

You all could have a ginormous party!

Oops. Wrong @Waiting2exhale!! My apologies. Sitting on the floor at Michaels while she picks out paint.

Learned how to edit today!!!

Any UCLA admits parent. I have a question. The financial aid award said they couldn’t proces it, then gave a bunch of reasons that don’t make sense. Did anyone else get their financial aid info for UCLA?

Sorry to interrupt all the great decision news but, have to rant:

Anyone else still working on taxes? ~X( The last piece was suppose to be out this week. When do I get notified it is ready
4:53 today! Went right to work. Think they are finally done. Ugh. Then I can finally file but, geez it will still be a while before everything is processed. :frowning:

OK- now back to good news

@LKnomad She got in 3 days ago as one of the finalists for their full tuition scholarship, but they asked not to announce until today when they will release all decisions.

Wow, @Ballerina016, the scholarship thing is HUGE!! Congratulations!!

Wow-congrats to everyone who got good news today! And sorry about those rejections-even with good news from other schools, those must sting. I’ve been checking often today for new announcements-I love following your journeys with you!

@Waiting2exhale I don’t know 50 people, but my D sure does. We counted all the people she wants to invite to graduation-even without her entire former junior class, she hit 50 pretty easily. Others will be at the party, but won’t be able to make graduation itself, and that should top 60 easily. She’s got people from church, who have watched her grow up, the immediate family, several grown cousins with spouses and kids of their own, in-laws of the in-laws who have become like family, THEIR kids and spouses/SO’s, a couple of former teachers, her former dance teacher, friends from her various travels and programs, family friends
the list goes on.

We’re VERY lucky in that we can use the church where I work for the party, for free, that H is a “BBQ Pitmaster” and that both of my SIL’s can cook like nobody’s business. They already offered to each make D her favorite foods. We’ll supply all the sides and I’ll be making a cupcake tower at D’s request. We did something like this for her 16th birthday and it went very well. D will do all the decorating and we’ll all work on set up and clean up.

And your comment about your Ds:“One is breathtaking and one will take your breath and any other essential aspect of your being that you are willing to lay down for her
” describes my 2 Ds exactly, only they are 10 years apart. They are so different it’s like they aren’t even related.

We could conceivably end up with that many, but we’re doing ours open house style, so hopefully they won’t all be in our (teeny tiny) house all at once. S is really involved in the community and it’s small town-- we had our wedding reception at home and the letter carrier stopped by on his route for cake and a soda.
OTOH, if it were left entirely up to Mr Petrichor and D, they might know
hmm. six people between them. S and I are the family extroverts.

@madredos : Twins here as well, and D is much more concerned about finances than her brother. We’re on the fence between a local LAC and the CC (she’s a bit over halfway through an AA if she goes there). She’s leaning toward the CC this week because, honestly, she’s pretty happy about the idea of incurring no debt for half of her undergrad. Fond as I am of her LAC, she has a real point.

Thank you @GoodGrief16 They only give out 8 scholarships and have 51 finalists, so unfortunately it is not in the bag yet.

@sseamom: Okay, okay, since you asked so nicely - Yes, I’ll be there.

What would the special little lady like as a present?

@Ballerina016, amazing to be one of 51 out of all the applicants though! I love how her fortune has turned around.

@madredos : Did you correct for spelling ? (Capital letter/small cap?) Or was that a retraction of your earlier comment to my response?

If you corrected for spelling, please don’t bother. Most of the time people leave out the number when responding, so I don’t know if they’re talking to me unless I’m in the thread actively.
