Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

Oh my gosh, @Skates76, I feel so sorry for your DW. This is one trip, however, that she’ll never forget.

Hugs to @Sophmore1 and @Mysonsdad about Notre Dame news. Darn that Pomona, LKnomad. Sorry about the rejection, @Mrspepper. Why do these things seem to have no rhyme or reason?

Good luck to @madredos as you make tough decisions x 2!

So looking forward to at least the virtual experience of your parties, @sseamom and @petrichor11.

Good luck with your taxes, @bookmom7. What else are Friday nights for if not applications, FAFSAs, and taxes?

Congrats on having a new driver, @indsfolax, and thus not having to run errand at all for the next several weeks.

Spring break irony: we’re leaving fabulous weather to head to an East Coast snow storm.

<:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P

Congrats, @Sean67208 on the WPI decision; to @Sophmore1 and @booajo on Grinnell (great acceptance even if your DCs don’t think so!), and to @OspreyCV22 on VA Tech-BIT. Congrats, @PAO2008 for the University of Rochester and a lower blood pressure. It’s a good week for you @frenchtoastlover --congrats on Bowdoin. However will you choose? Congrats on UCLA, @frenchtoastlover, @lknomad, @Ballerina016, @indsfolax, @Mysonsdad (with Regents!!), and @Mom2jl! Congrats on @Harvey Mudd, @Mom2jl and HM with potential scholarship, @Ballerina016!

@carolinamom2boys The sort of ironic thing is that D was in her cousins wedding as a flower girl in Charleston. We went out doing a little vacationing while down there and D needed a hat and has had that bright pink Clemson hat ever since (-:

Many congratulations all around, lots of ice cream, cake and pie (why pick one) for the disappointments, but it is all coming together in the way it is meant to be to get our kids to the places they will thrive and be happy.

DW and D are back on terra firma in PA and driving home, with D apparently wearing rubber gloves and using Clorox wipes on everything her mom touches. Mom drew the line at wearing a mask, lol.

Yes to what @EastGrad said!

Great news on DW & DD soon return home @Skates76 !

btw- took a break & went out for some good tex-mex & a cold beverage.

Congratulations, again and again @Ballerina016 <:-P :bz <:-P :bz <:-P :bz <:-P

CONGRA-SUPER-LATIONS, @Mysonsdad UCLA and Regents a day after BC! <:-P :bz <:-P :bz <:-P

Congratulations @Mom2jl UCLA and Harvey Mudd on the same day! <:-P :bz <:-P :bz <:-P

Congrats to everyone mentioned in @EastGrad’s post

Great news for the most part, sorry for the few people who got not-so-good news. There will be better days.

@Skates76, happy to hear DW is able to drive home, moms are tough!

Congrats to everyone on the good news!

Hugs to everyone for disappointments

Super busy day with decisions, both good and not so good for so many. Wishing everyone a much needed weekend to reflect and regroup!

Wow…it is hard to keep up with this thread! lol So happy for everyone that received good news today! I know how all of you feel. I have been on cloud 9 since my son was admitted to his top school on Monday.

Hugs to everyone that received bad news and those that are still waiting. Hang in there. Everything will work out…

@Waiting2exhale Woops, my bad! Honestly, I would say that I am not too picky about some aspects of the schools I applied to. The UC’s were mainly my parents’ and counselor’s ideas, but the colleges I applied to mostly had to satisfy a few criteria. Some criteria of importance were small to mid-sized schools (where I could receive personal attention and really get to know professors and fellow students, so I’d say minimum 1k undergrad population to maximum 6-7k undergrads), LGBTQ friendly, collaborative environment, balanced study/fun student life (work hard play hard schools, essentially), as well as more flexible distributional requirements. I also favored the East Coast when deciding which schools to apply to.

You may notice that many schools I applied to did not satisfy some of my criteria (e.g. Alabama was a safety to make my guidance counselor happy; Michigan and Cornell are larger than the specified range, but I loved both of them, especially Cornell, which I’d attend over Harvard; Columbia for NYC, even though I wasn’t too big on the Core, although I found the track quite relevant to my interests in the humanities). One thing that really changed over the course of visiting/applying was that I began to really like the rural/small town schools when I only considered urban/suburban schools before. Ultimately, location didn’t play too much as a factor, but visiting really endeared me to schools like Dartmouth, Cornell, and Vassar, to name a few.

I also love Bowdoin! I had such a great experience at the Explore Bowdoin program this past October, and made friends there that I still correspond with today. My visit really differentiated Bowdoin from other liberal arts colleges, as I didn’t really know much about the school before I decided to apply. Although, I’d have to say that in regards to liberal arts colleges, Vassar narrowly beats out Bowdoin for me, but it’s still such a hard choice!

My S got into Harvey Mudd, his dream school! And UCLA as a Regents scholar!

We are shocked and thrilled. But we also hurt for friends who did not get in.

My computer crashed today, so I am way behind on this thread. Going to catch up on all the news now!

Congrats to @happymochi and the others with good news! We’re in the home stretch now.
DS was accepted yesterday at Rochester. Earlier in the week he had gotten his first rejection, from a much lower ranked favorite, so he was worried about his chances at Rochester and his remaining reach. After the Roch acceptance, he is starting to realize how random this can be. (Mom was right!)

CONGRADS @happymochi and @Almondjoy7 !

Congratulations to all who got acceptances last night and hugs to those who didn’t.

Wow more wonderful news for so many! Congratulations to all, and hugs for those that didn’t get news they were hoping for.

Congrats to all. My S was also accepted to U of Rochester yesterday (although we don’t know anything about FA or merit yet). Looks like we will be traveling to at least two admitted students days if not 3 (still waiting to hear from one more next week). Should be an interesting next few weeks.

Congrats to all! I’m currently at an accepted students overnight waiting for my host to wake up.

Congratulations to everyone with good news and especially those who got into the dream schools @happymochi @Mom2jl

Congratulations @happymochi ! How wonderful that your DS is in at his dream school <:-P <:-P <:-P

Congratulations @Almondjoy1 and @allboyz ! <:-P :bz <:-P :bz <:-P :bz <:-P :bz <:-P :bz <:-P :bz <:-P

DD got into BU College of Engineering for BME! So happy for her to now have 3 really good options.

Congrats everyone
