@cakeisgreat I remember you and your lovely avatar that makes me hungry every time I look at it. So happy for you and your DD! Welcome back here for the last stretch of the ride.
@cakeisgreat I remember you too, and Iām so glad it worked out! How great that you were able to get a permanent change to happen for future students!
For anyone interested, I am also able to add people to our Facebook group. Feel free to PM me as well.
@cakeisgreat Congratulations to you both and an extra heaping of admiration for not only asking the right questions and changing the system for you, but for reminding an institution that the worst reason for doing or not doing something is because āit has always been that wayā! What a wonderfully positive impact you made for so many people, pretty awesome stuff in my opinion (-:
Heading off to our last accepted students weekend later this afternoon . This school is currently #3 on his list, but so close to one and two , I felt the need for him to go to make an informed decision . He certainly has been making comments over the weekend about sending in deposits on Tues, so it sounds like his decision has been made unless he has an epiphany between now and then. One thing Iām most excited about is getting the opportunity to meet another CC parent.
@cakeisgreat so happy it all worked out! Kudos for advocating for yourself!
D is on Spring break this week and is buried in homework. Poor kid! I guess itās a good thing we didnāt plan a trip anywhere (not that we could have since S16ās break is the following week).
I remember some CC parents purchasing an easily packable sleeping bag on Amazon for admitted student visits. Details, feedback, please ⦠I figure I donāt need to reinvent the wheel since youāve already done the legwork!
@cakeisgreat - glad things worked out for you. Happy to hear your D picked Rutgers! (I thought she might have picked U of Del!) The Garden State makes a good home!
I love and have come to prefer posting in the Facebook group! Come on over!
@Undercovermom1 - S has one of the REI sleeping bags - maybe itās the Flash? - and it works well for all but really cold outdoor camping. Itās really lightweight, and fit in his regular school backpack when he went on a 3-day retreat a few weeks ago. Thatās what will go with him on his admitted student visits next month. Itās not the cheapest in the world, but weāre on its sixth year now (bought it in 6th grade for Outdoor School!) - and itās held up beautifully.
@GoodGrief16 I like the fact that we can ask questions here but remain private. The FB group is public so everyone can see the comments. However, it is great that we have options.
I guess I better get my son to show me how to make a FB account before he leaves to go to school.
Hey everyone! As per request, Iāll be making a post here and elsewhere on CC about my college application process and decision process once I commit to a school (after Bulldog Days, so around May 1). However, I wanted to get some early feedback as to what to include. What information would you all like to know, or what information from my experiences would you think would helpful to both parents and students about the college admissions game? I canāt help on financial topics, as I didnāt qualify for financial aid and didnāt go through the process of applying for financial aid, and Iām sure you all know it way better than I ever could.
i sent a note about the FB group, but havenāt heard back. In all honesty, I should probably go do dishes and laundry before heading there, or else iāll get sucked down the rabbit hole. We have a guest arriving today for a few days, and the opened suitcase in the entryway with all of my trip laundry tossed around (the washer/dryer are right there) - so attractive.
Oh wait - did hear back. Someday Iāll learn to work technology. That day will not be today.
@cakeisgreat I loved waking up to your success story. Kudos for your multi-faceted hard work!
Dās school asked for 4 childhood pictures for a slideshow at graduation. So this weekend involves shifting through 4 boxes of photos. Iām an emotional mess, but a happy emotional mess.
We are staying put for spring break. D figured out the very swanky yoga studio in town offers a one week free trial. So she signed up yesterday and plans to spend spring break creating her own personal yoga boot camp with classes interspersed with beach time and topped off with a massage she got a gift certificate for at Xmas. Not my thing, but for her a great reprieve from the college admissions/aid drama.
I sent my kid to an overnight with a pad for the sleeping bag. Hard floors. I call the pad Ensolite but who knows what theyāre called nowadays. Very dense but thin and rollable foam for backpacking camping. Very helpful.
@allboyz, I actually find the FB privacy level to be preferable because it is a closed group and I donāt have to be concerned about classmates, etc figuring out who I am. Itās hard for me to reveal even basic information here without being recognizable
So please remind me how to find the FB group?
You have to PM @sseamom and give her your email.
@4kids2graduate thank you for sharing your experience. I just wrote to Cornell and reserve the April 22nd date for a visit. Is your daughter in the engineering school? Any insights will be much appreciated. I love Cornell, I know several colleagues who went to Cornell (but not to the school of engineering).
āreservedā, sorry
