We have one college that we contacted last week to try to “pin down” a decision date…and their admissions person said “I believe the portal will go live around the 25th”. What does “around” mean anyway?
I know there are AT LEAST three parents on this thread (including me) who are waiting for a decision from the same school and it is VERY nerve wracking not having a definitive date/time for decision notification.
MUCH THANKS to all who responded to my UIUC query. Very helpful. Will pass it on to a very grateful Dad and son. BTW, this kid is a real foodie, and the food at UIUC is supposed to be really good.
@bookmom7 – Well, you could have another child (we have a twenty year spread between our oldest and youngest, but by the time he/she is ready to apply to college all of your current knowledge will be out of date.
If we take the macro view, the increasing difficulty of acceptance at some colleges will serve to increase the stats of the students attending the colleges in the next tier down. A good outcome for the whole, right? (While such “ranking” sticks in my craw, it’s the lingua franca of college admissions these days, pretty much. So, I’m just going with it.)
Alot of my friends are really starting to hear from colleges and with that comes rejections. It’s so hard to know what to say and what to do especially since I haven’t experienced it. I almost feel guilty for getting into my dream school while other people I care about are getting rejected. (Completely different schools but still) thankfully they all have acceptances they will be happy out. We were also talking about the transition from our middle class, 99% white town to more diverse areas.
Sorry to all those with unhappy news! I agree, this process seems a bit messed up and perhaps a cap on apps might be a way to help, although I can’t really see that happening. Maybe there will just be a backlash where the kids and parents finally say ‘enough’ to some of the craziness.
@readingclaygirl My son was admitted to his dream school. Now I am concerned about his friends. I know they will find out any day now. I hope they will be admitted to their dream schools too. They are really great kids. I hope they get good news this week…
@AsleepAtTheWheel My daughter is currently a junior at UIUC (and loving it!) but she didn’t care for the dorm food. I thought it was ok-- pretty standard cafeteria fare. But DD couldn’t wait to get her own apartment so she could cook.
I went tonight to buy DS a water gun for the senior class Assasins. His Assasin is stalking our house, not knowing that DS is at an accepted student event. (If he’s still here when the rain starts I’ll go out and tell him…)
DSs best friend has had a string of rejections. I’m hoping for one good acceptance for him.
Well we have a winner! DS16 just paid his housing deposit and enrollment fees. Woo hoo. The winner is College of Charleston Honors College William Aiken Fellows. I’d appreciate any assistance to change the color on the acceptance thread because unlike my Tech kid, I am
totally inadequate. Thanks everyone for all of your support and encouragement over this journey . Can’t wait to see the page change colors. :D/
Thank you, @Waiting2exhale. I can’t wait to see what she does! She’s already inspired a current junior to make plans to graduate early like she is doing.
Sorry for those of you who got bad news today and support for those still stuck in “wait and see” mode.
@livinginLA D’s cap and gown came today. When she tried it on, it was all I could do not to just start sobbing. H immediately took a photo and posted it-though he acts all blaze’ about it, he is beyond proud of her (she’s his only child). While SHE keeps saying that it doesn’t feel real, I am all too aware of how fast the time is flying by.
I hope it’s okay if I brag on one of D’s best friends at school - she was originally deferred from University of Chicago - but found out last Friday she was taken off the wait list, and has been accepted. She wants to major in History.
We’re so happy for her! She is an incredibly nice kid and very humble about her accomplishments and talents.
@Hope2achieve, yes, they released last Friday. He applied RD so there should be no reason for him to be notified, but not others. We are in California FYI. He got wait listed just minutes before the UCLA results were released.
