@CA1543 - She’s got a few things going for her and a couple of hooks. Her essays are superb (she’s a deep thinker and a strong writer), her teacher/counselor recs say she walks on water, and she has high test scores. As for hooks, she’s a URM (latina), has overcome adversity (she’s disabled), and attended TASP.
@LoveTheBard and @SincererLove Wow!! Those are super hard to get at Vandy! Congrats!!
@LoveTheBard She sounds like an amazing young lady and a super star student. Huge congrats to her. Hope she is excited about all of her great options!
@LoveTheBard @SincererLove Congrats!!!
@LoveTheBard - triple congrats!!! @SincererLove congrats. Is it something to do with “love” in the CC user ID
@CaucAsianDad That is such a lovely story and truly lifted my heart today. I hope this remains a favorite memory for your family!
Congrats for all the wonderful news @CaucAsianDad @LoveTheBard @SincererLove
Thanks for the tip, @LoveTheBard ! D17 was home sick from school today, but when she woke up from her afternoon nap I asked her to check for email from Grinnell. She’s accepted with a Dean’s scholarship ($25K/year). Ironically, nearly all the offers we’ve received, when coupled with my tuition grant program through my employer, are penciling out to be within about $3K of each other. So, weirdly, Stanford, Miami of Ohio and Grinnell are all looking pretty similar.
@LoveTheBard Congrats. I know a few people who went to Grinnell in the 90s and loved it. S17 has a (Latina) friend who grew up there with faculty parents.
@mamaedefamilia S got the Case swag. It was nice to get something other than tons of postcards from them.
I leave my kids either with a sitter or at a friends. Since D has had a boyfriend for the last 18mths, I have preferred that they stay in my house with a sitter as I don’t want an empty house.
I love your story @CaucAsianDad!
Congratulations on all your great news @LoveTheBard!
@SincererLove Congratulations on the BigMac at Vanderbilt.
@picklesarenice congratulations on the MAC at Grinnell!
D did not make it to the finals for the Jefferson Scholar.
D is a finalist for the top scholly at U of Cincinnati. She got a nice personal email from the chancellor at Ole Miss. And this month’s monthly Pitt gift box arrived.
Good college news day all around it seems. :). May the good news continue throughout the week for everyone.
CONGRATS @SincererLove & @LoveTheBard —AMAZING news!!
@LoveTheBard Yowsa what a day! Yes, I have a kid there now. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.
@CaucAsianDad fantastic story! My D16 is a freshman and is having the time of her life
@LoveTheBard @SincererLove congrats on the scholarship. D17 was accepted ED, but we are full pay…gulp
@picklesarenice congrats on grinnell
@itsgettingreal17 congrats on making it to finalist. Let’s hope the good news continues!
I’m curious to hear what your DS choses. Mine chose an EC event over admit days at a top choice school. 8-|
This school won’t have a fair chance against all the fun of the other school’s admit days.
@itsgettingreal17 Congrats on finalist status for Cincinnati! How are you coordinating all of the finalist interviews, visits, etc.? We’ve already got some conflicts and we haven’t heard from nearly as many as you!
@Testingearly - sorry about the Jefferson.
Thanks, @porcupine98 – I may well take you up on that!
@picklesarenice - congrats on Grinnell, and wow! Those are some great choices! Unfortunately, DH’s university doesn’t participate in TE (or even give anything at any of the UCs!)
Have been away for a few days, but congrats to all with happy news and especially to @LoveTheBard and @SincererLove re Vandy! Amazing school. Those scholarships are really quite difficult to get and you should be so proud!
Congratulations to all with good news. @CaucAsianDad, thanks for sharing your wonderful story.
D also received Presidential Scholarship from Grinnell today!
@LoveTheBard and @SincererLove, Congrats. Vandy is a special place and a cool city. Beautiful campus well integrated into the city. Fantastic.
@LoveTheBard Believe it or not, we haven’t had any conflicts. D will just miss a lot of school in February and March and she’ll have 2 competitions and 1 visit during spring break. Having a mix of Skype, phone and in-person interviews has helped.
