D17 is a National Merit Finalist!

Congratulations, @cleoforshort !

Let’s hope this is the beginning of another banner news day for CC parents and their families!

@novicemom23kids I can relate. DD applied to 6 schools, only one EA, the rest RD. The EA school wait-listed her. One of the RD schools has accepted. We are anxiously waiting to hear from the other 4 RD schools, but realistically, we probably won’t hear from them until the end of March/April 1, and won’t hear from the one that wait-listed her until April 15. Meanwhile, the school where she is admitted is offering her travel costs to attend their admitted students days, but since it’s 2/3 of the way across the country, it would be nice to know if she’s been admitted to the other 2 schools on that coast, so she could visit them all in 1 trip. Last week, one of her friends who only applied to our state’s flagship and has already been admitted had dinner with us. I was also feeling envious of her and her parents. For them, there was very little stress and it is now over! On the other hand, I’m proud of my DD’s independence and willingness to go 2/3 of the way across the country, and I am relieved that like your student, she doesn’t have her heart set on any one school, so now that she’s been admitted to one, no rejections should hit her too hard. May 1 can’t come soon enough!

@AngelaD - congrats on the Presidential at Grinnell! Looks like our Ds are going to be faced with similar decisions with respect to their EA choice versus merit options.

@cleoforshort - congrats on NMF. We still haven’t heard…not sure if the school has; I told D to check with the GC.

@mamaedefamilia - was it a nice package once D opened it? Good swag, I hope.

@itsgettingreal17 - love the idea of a weekly Pitt box!

Here’s hoping for continued good new for all!!

Congratulations @cleoforshort! I also just got confirmation that S is a National Merit Finalist. It is nice to have confirmation, especially since he is targeting schools that give great Big MAC for that award. Plus he can put it on outside scholarship apps he is working on.

@NolaCAR - Why not visit the two schools out there before the decision. You could let the admissions office know that you are interested and are visiting. Perhaps it will help speed them along.

Does anyone know if all (100) students who advance into the Georgia Tech President’s scholar Finalist round receive some sort of scholarship or is it just the final 40 President’s scholarship recipients? Thank you

@mamaedefamilia - S got a second swag package from Case today. Some sort of cards but I don’t know if it is a deck of oversized playing cards or all have sayings on them.

@educationfan, I believe all finalists will get something, even not part of 40 winners. The least you will get is the out of state tuition waiver, which is OOS paying instate tuition. I am not sure the prize for instate though. Did your DC already hear back on the finalist status? Best of luck!!

For those who wonder if D will go to Vandy’s admitted student weekend instead of robotics, she reluctantly agreed with us for now when her usual neutral younger brother even agreed with us. Not to say what excuse she might come up when the time comes!! We shall see how well I know my D!

@MA2012 - they’re cards with photos on one side and explanatory text on the other. They’re kind of fun - describing everything from academics, sports, clubs, school traditions, food, etc.

@LoveTheBard The swag was the picture cards described above. The envelope was an invite to interview for a named scholarship at St. Olaf.

@mamaedefamilia Congrats on St. Olaf scholarship invite!

Today ds admitted to Univ Richmond and downselected as finalist for Richmond Scholars program (full tuition or full ride possibilities)! Woo hoo!

Woo hoo @mamaedefamilia and @crazym0m <:-P
