Parents of the HS Class of 2017 (Part 1)

Congrats to all with good news! <:-P
Since we have a decision at our house the hardest part now has been the wait to appply for housing and schedule travel for orientation and move in. I like to plan ahead and not being able to do so is driving me crazy!

@youcee @Dave_N @RightCoaster I was checking CC while I was cooking dinner and missed congratulating you on your C’s great news before! Way to go!

S’ school requires AP exams for AP classes. They’ll charge our account, I think it’s $93/exam, and 2 exams for Physics C.

Last year some of his classes gave practice AP exams as finals, but the final grade would be overridden by a better score in the real AP exam.

Found out tonight that D got into UConn Storrs which was nice after getting the disappointing news that Wellesley gave her a “possible” under their early eval program this week.

Has anyone been saving by shopping through UPromise? We started in 2001and managed to save $4000. by attaching our cards and clicking through their site. It’s earmarked for D21.

@VickiSoCal, S’ buddy has committed to St. Andrews.

Congrats on UCONN, @cleoforshort! My D got in as well. Waiting to hear about a scholarship since she has a link on her portal which supposedly means there will be good news forthcoming.

Thanks for the nice notes everyone, I appreciate it.
@Fishnlines29 thanks for mentioning my son like that. He really is a nice, decent kid and I’m looking forward to seeing where he ends up too  The suspense is killing me.

@cleoforshort and @nocturne21 congrats on UCionn, that’s great news.

@nocturne21 Is that the link below the “financial aid” link with the “scholarship agreement” you have to check? Congrats to your D! My oldest is a Junior there and LOVES it!

@RightCoaster I am a behind the scenes cheerleader. Your ds is one of the kids I am really rooting for in the background. I really hope he ends up with a couple of really great options. Congrats on today’s!

@cleoforshort yes, that’s the link. I’m glad both of our Ds got good news after the Wellesley news.

I also really appreciate the congrats and good wishes.

I am more afraid of omitting someone so I generally just like posts, but congrats to everyone!

I really believe that it is the colleges that are winning here. They get to welcome some really great kids and have the privilege of hosting them for four years.

Isn’t it fun to imagine all of the future accolades and accomplishments for these kids? Goldwaters, Churchills, Borens, Trumans, Rhodes? MacArthurs? Nobels? Fulfilling, happy productive lives?

Anyway, onward and upward…

That is a long list. Congrats for all the good news today. Merit, acceptance, and love are wonderful in this game of college tinder. Swipe Right to all.

D17 and I had a lovely evening at the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. She may be heading toward engineering, but music will always hold a place in her heart.

Afterward we talked about visiting the three schools. I’ve been telling her that she should at least visit Bama because I’ve heard about so many kids on these boards who were reluctant to visit and then ended up loving it. However, she pointed out that with the UMD scholarship she has two schools she has visited and loved, and that they are both more affordable than UA. I guess I’ll be recinding that acceptance (which was made only to get in line for housing) and canceling the tour on Monday.

I know there’s an overwhelming chance that she would have ended up at UMD or UA-H anyway, but it still gives me a little pang to cut UA without ever visiting…

Congrats to all on great news from schools and scholarships! It’s funny that this AP discussion just came up–I was talking to my D17 tonight on if she is going to take all five of her AP tests or not. It seems like most of her schools will only take 4 at the MOST (and even then, only for elective credit, not to replace a core requirement), so that’s almost $500 (they are $93 each). She said she may have to take a regular final in the class if she doesn’t take the AP test, but she feels bad paying all of that if they won’t “count” in college, so she’s going to talk to teachers and maybe only take 3 or so. Tough decisions.

@BigPapiofthree Collegr Tinder! Love it!

Trying to catch up…congrats to @nocturne21 and @cleoforshort as your Ds end their week with an acceptance!

@cleoforshort congrats on UConn, sorry about the response from Wellesley, that’ s a frustrating response. Are either of these top contenders for her? When you mentioned UPromise, I thought you meant urban promise at first, but I looked it UPromise! It looks interesting, I wonder if it differs much from points on a credit card.
