@nocturne21, @cleoforshort & @chillkitty - Congrats on UConn acceptance. My S17 also was accepted to UConn!
@nocturne21, My earlier reply was sent prematurely…Schwartz’s deli had an amazing sandwich. Don’t expect atmosphere, just amazing bread and meat…
amazing egg rolls like never had before are at this place https://www.yelp.com/biz/tchang-kiang-par-le-yangtze-montréal?osq=egg+rolls
And St.-Viateur bagel is amazing also. I almost forgot that place. worth going for breakfast. Bet you can’t eat just one…
Congrats @jpc763!
Congratulations @jpc763 and S17!
Thanks @BigPapiofthree! I can definitely eat my way through Montreal. LOL I’m looking forward to the trip!
@NerdMom88 Oh, I know the pang of not visiting! At least your daughter has a couple of excellent choices she seems thrilled about! My D will likely end up majoring in science, but music is also in her soul…
@Ynotgo and @srk2017 That’s so fun you all got to meet each other! I bet the two of you loved it, were the kids awkward?! My D is always looking at me funny when I tell her I want her to meet (insert any random friend’s kid’s name) ______.
@dfbdfb Was her interview today? How did it go?
@jpc763 Congrats on the UConn acceptance! <:-P
@Fishnlines29, the (HN)CBHP event is a day and a half—so there’s stuff this afternoon, and then all day tomorrow. They had a sample schedule up, but that every candidate would get their own schedule when they checked in, so I actually have no idea what exactly she’s doing when while she’s there (which is fine with me).
Congratulations on the fabulous scholarship awards: @Dave_N @youcee @NerdMom88 @itsgettingreal17 @RightCoaster
Congratulations on the acceptances at UConn @Cleoforshort, @chillkitty and @nocturne21!
QOYD D’s school requires that they sit for AP exams if they take the class.
We went to NY this weekend to see Hamilton, it was incredible. D got a call from a UVA Echols Scholar when we were driving home. It made her start thinking that she needs to start planning college revisits. It is so hard to plan though when she is waiting to hear from 9 schools - about 5 of which she would love to attend.
I’m back in the land of the internet-connected after two weeks and carefully read each of the 1000+ posts. I will now compose replies for each: Congrats to a bunch of the kids! Sorry about disappointments for a few. We live in a house that curses ranging from mild (D17, S18, and me) to drunken sailor level (H and oldest D). I think fit is important (for my kids) within financial reality. I guess I should think about AP’s.
D got one acceptance and two pretty nice merit awards while I was gone. Four more decisions coming but they don’t really matter because three are reaches (highly unlikely to offer needed merit even if accepted) and one that has come off the list. She’s down to the final four which seems to be driving up her stress levels. Probably because it’s more “real” now. We’re digging deep into info on those schools.
@RightCoaster, wowzers, your S must have gotten some BIG MAC from Clarkson. I was quite pleased with D’s award but it’s still 5K more than state flagship (maybe 7-8K more with the merit she would likely have gotten if she’d applied to the flagship). Clarkson is on the shortlist (after I’d thought it was off – I can’t keep up with D).
@Testingearly Did you go to New York to see the Hamilton, the Musical or the College?
@dfbdfb Hope your daughter has a good visit, what a great opportunity. It’s awesome she can handle the whole travel thing on her own and deal with the school stuff on top of that. Good for her!
@snoozn welcome back, it’s about $%^&ing time, lol. Congrats to your D on new acceptances and merit $$.
Son must have done something they like at Clarkson, because I was not expecting the amount awarded. The funny thing is son wasn’t even wowed. He’s like stone cold. Playing it cool.
congrats @jpc763 on UConn! Yay. I like it there and thought my son might apply. He chose not to in the end, but had a good experience there. I have a few successful friends that attended UConn and they loved it.
I saw a kid today at the store with a Vanderbilt sweatshirt ( you don’t see those a lot in New England!) and I thought of all you wth kids going there.
Kids go back to school tomorrow. I was going to stay and ski for a few more days, but the weather in New England has been crazy warm and it’s like mash potatoes snow right now. I’ll wait for it to firm back up when the weather gets colder next weekend.
We’re a few weeks away from all of son17’s decisions to come in. His mom and I have no idea what he is going to do and we go back and forth daily on pros and cons. Which is pointless because we still don’t know if he’ll actually get in to a few schools or not. He really liked RPI when we visited recently, and I think that might now be the leader in his mind. He liked the vibe there a lot I guess. However I checked the Naviance data from our school and wanted to barf, lol. The only kids that have gotten in there from our school in the last 3 years have 34/35 ACT and 4.7 GPA. Maybe because it’s only smart engineering/stem kids applied from our school. When we were at RPI, admissions stated the mid 50 ACT was 28-32, so son is on the high side there, and he’s applying to Lally Business school so maybe the expectations are lowered. Who knows? it’s a total crapshoot at this point wth his remaining apps. Oy Vey!!
Hope all of you figure out a way to manage the stress coming your way! Good luck!
So fun that the DC of @ynotgo and @srk2017 met up at Berkley. Crossing fingers both will receive scholarships.
Have my hopes up DC of CC’er here will be joining my DS at the university on the hill (looking at @STEM2017 and @CT1417 and @CA1543). [-O<
Congratulations to all the families with good news - many with a multitude of opportunities and some tough decisions to make. =D>
Hang in there to the families still in active pursuit of opportunities or waiting for decisions.
@BigPapiofthree Yummy! Road trip.
First time posting here but have read almost everything. DS Accepted to 7 schools most recently UNC and UConn. No Big Mac yet. Some sports recruiting.
Congrats to all so far. Some really great achievements and really nice people here. I’m in an area of country with intense competition so kind is much appreciated round about now.
@linsweet --welcome! Congrats on the acceptances and good luck with the choices to come. We suspected no big MAC would be forthcoming from UNC so D did not apply. Sad b/c it was always my dream to live in NC…sigh. D will be attending Pitt!
We got the most so far from Pitt.
@linsweet --yep, Pitt comes in the same as our in-state options with no merit so we are fine with it. Maybe we will see you this fall!? And we are all nice and kind here!
Congrats to all on the new acceptances and Big Mac news!
@stencils Going by snail mail (I don’t see e-mails and S17 does not share much about these), U of Kentucky has by far by S17’s biggest stalker with UChicago a close second. He is still receiving mail form U of Kentucky, as recently as yesterday “looking forward to the opportunity to review your application.”
Since his decision has been made - these are quickly finding their way to the burn box.
D did not win the Singletary scholarship at UKy (tuition + room + board). However, she was awarded a Presidential scholarship (full tuition). The Presidential stacks with their diversity scholarship, so her total scholarship package is several thousand dollars more than the Singletary. Win!
@itsgettingreal17, congrats on the kentucky scholarships…
