Additional response to the QOTD - we have an Irish Family restaurant near by that makes a great Bailey’s Pie and being from MA I can’t neglect Boston Cream Pie.
Apple. blueberry, lemon meringue, strawberry rhubarb… the list goes on and on =))
Count down to 6:28 !!!
Boston Cream Pie is my favorite kind of pie. I know; it’s not really a pie, but I don’t really care for traditional pies. Like others, I am not a fan of sweet crusts.
We just saw a few snowflakes here in north metro atlanta. I need to go buy some bread and milk.
Currently in the household we’re having a heated discussion about loft beds. When D17 had a loft bed in her room it had a safety rail built into it (it was part of the design so didn’t look obtrusive). I said if I got her a loft bed at school (you have to order them), that she’d have to be ok with a safety rail and she freaked out.
Well, as much as The Junior Rational ever freaks out. She said “no way” and frowned. I said no safety rail, no loft. And you can be sure I’ll zip strip the bejeezus out of the safety rail so she’s not removing it five minutes after I’ve left.
I said that I’d sew a cover for it that had pockets so it would match the curtains around the bottom part of the loft (so she can work on her computer without disturbing her roommate), and she said “talk to me when I’m not hungry”. I think that’s probably a win. Now I just have to do a lot of measuring when we’re there for orientation so I can create something out of tension rods for the curtains under the loft.
I also just bought a bunch of acoustical tiles; we’re going to test those out tonight as well. She can be shouty when she’s gaming with her friends or talking to them on Discord.
Buses: I rallied hard with the local government for years to get super wide sidewalks set far away from the road going from the elementary and middle school over to our neighborhood and the one across the street. We were eventually successful, but not until the girls were freshmen/soph in high school. It still does my heart good to see hundreds of kids pouring out of the schools and walking home on a nice spring day. It has solved a really ghastly car rider line traffic issue, so I’m still reaping some of the benefits :). There are buses to the high school, but we’re out of district so we don’t use them.
@MotherOfDragons We also had a discussion about the lofted bed. My D doesn’t love the loft (too high) but wants the space under the bed for a futon. I’m adding a safety rail if she decides on the loft.
My D15 had a lofted bed with her desk underneath. No rail. She was fine. Her roommate had the same. The only complaints were it was difficult to get up to, even with the ladder, and it was super difficult to make the bed when she washed the sheets. This year she said no loft. She’d deal with the lack of space.
D got into MIT CS!!
Congrats!!! @SincererLove
I am waiting to have that battle on the rail if the bed is lofted but they scare me to death and S WILL fall out.
Congratulations @SincereLove!!! That is awesome <:-P <:-P <:-P ^:)^
@eandesmom My D as well. She’s a poor sleeper.
@SincererLove congratulations!!!
Fantastic @SincererLove!!
Last year D15’s bed had the leg extensions, which enabled her to roll a horizontal bookcase beneath the bed. This year her new room has a sink where the dresser used to be, so her bed is elevated to accommodate the dresser. She takes a running leap to get in, and I’m waiting for the day Health Services calls to tell me she tripped and face-planted. No traditional lofts are available, but she has a rail on her loft bed at home so it wouldn’t be a big deal.
^^ This. Absolutely and every word of this.
In college admissions, power skews pretty strongly toward the colleges. The student’s only power is the ability to reject an offer that isn’t adequate. ED (and certain, but not most, types of EA) eliminate the student’s power in the relationship entirely.
This is not healthy.
@SincererLove Congrats to your D. My D got rejected. Her first outright rejection so she’s a little sad but she’ll get over it with some yummy pie.
Thanks @smcirish for the $20,000 merit info on Macalester!
@SincererLove Congrats on MIT!!! How exciting!
My D found out today she’s a finalist for the Sunflower Initiative scholarship ($10,000) that can only be used at a Women’s College. Happy dance!
Congrats @SincererLove ! Amazing!
Hugs @Dolemite.
Agree with you @dfbdfb and others 100% on ED.
It benefits the school and the wealthy. No one else.
ETA: My modified ED/EA proposal is EAEO Early Action Expiring Offer.
Apply by Nov 1.
Get an answer by Dec 1.
Offer expires by Jan 1.
This way the power is shared and the school can better plan during the RD cycle.
@SincererLove Happy, happy Pi day! Huge congratulations!
