Lol @youcee , I’ll google that!!!
@cloudysmom I don’t think either meets need so you will can wildly different packages from schools that don’t guarantee to meet need. Publication also generally don’t award as much (even after taking lower cost into account).
@nocturne21 College Data has waitlist stats for some schools-how many students offered a spot, how many accepted a spot, how many got in off the waitlist. So that is a good place to start. Unfortunately, the only school my D has been waitlisted at (so far) doesn’t show these stats.
@RightCoaster Sorry about the no from Babson. Rejections are always hard.
D got into Fordham-Lincoln Center with a full tuition scholarship and…
she got into UChicago!
@Dolemite congrats to your daughter! Aboslutely awaesome! :D/ =D>
@Dolemite great news! Full tuition-whoa!
@Dolemite – She much feel pretty psyched! great options for her & full tuition is quite nice. Many more app decisions to come?
Thanks, @NolaCAR! I am on it!! :bz
So many great news! Congratulations to everyone with great news! <:-P <:-P <:-P
Hugs to wailists and rejections =(( X_X >:D<
See my flowers?
Bees are happy.
So Happy to hear so much great news congrats!! <:-P <:-P
Hugs and thoughts to waitlists and rejections [-(
@WhatSally I haven’t seen anything but congratulations and curiosity, nw2ths’s daughter is super smart and no one is saying she wouldn’t deserve an acceptance at Pitt had she applied. But maybe there was a name/paperwork mix up and another hopeful kid out there doesn’t know what he/she is missing! I’ve never heard of an acceptance happening without an application, it certainly would be a first - and maybe a simple phone call would explain the mystery!
@RightCoaster Congrats on Bentley and sorry to hear he got wait-listed at Babson… I don’t know much about the process for them and likelihood of coming off the list but - hopefully more good news will come his way soon!
@nocturne21 - Oh man, wait-listed at JHU, so is that D’s top choice?
@srk2017 Congrats on JHU, I hear Vandy is still dandy. @BusyNapping and @Testingearly Congrats on JHU to you as well. How on earth do you only have 5 more weeks of school - NO FAIR!! 3 months for us!
@Mom2aphysicsgeek Wow! Congrats on Fordham and the big mac! My friend’s son is a Junior this year and really likes it. He got an apartment with a friend last summer and it’s nice to see him grow up. How does your daughter feel about it?!
@jmek15 Yea! Congrats on Virginia Tech!
@socalmom007 Bummer about Fordham. Well my CA girlfriend LOVED CalPoly, maybe it might spark her interest if you take your D to visit again? But where is D’s top choice at the moment?
You say “FA” but was it need based aid or scholarship money? I’m not sure if either of the colleges try to meet need. For scholarship money, maybe the stats are a little lower overall at Roanoke and they are trying to attract stronger students. Of course, there’s always the random crapshoot aspect!!
@Dolemite Big congrats on Fordham and U of Chicago. Your daughter has wonderful choices so far, I can’t wait to see where she decides to go!
Is Fordham the school where the room and board is close to $20,000?
@cloudysmom, the COA at Roanoke is almost $60k, and JMU $25k, so if you get $45,000 in aid at the private school, the net price might be close to the one at the public with less aid. Publics most often only give whatever federal and state aid you qualify for, possibly some merit.
Let’s say your EFC was $15,000 both schools would meet that
$60k -$45k = $15k
$25k - $5k - $5k loan = $15k
Although not all schools promise to meet need, and might gap you.
Yikes!
First rejection from Case!
Deferred and then rejected from one of DS’s top choices. Legacy. Visited & Interviewed.
Oh, well. Your loss!
5 great acceptances to choose from.
I’ve been around here long enough that I should know the answer to this question. Is “grant aid” always need based?
D got her official UChicago admission with a combination of “university scholarships” and NHRP program aid, which I assume are merit based, and a couple of university “grants” and federal work/study. Are the last two need-based? Would this supplant (or be in addition to) a previous merit award that she got with a “likely letter?”
Not looking gift horse in the mouth, but it’d be nice to know…
Also got into Swat with congratulations on being able to afford it :)) NFW, indeed.
Also got full tuition at Kenyon…
Oh no, sorry about the rejection at case. that’s always tough, but as you said, some great accpetances so onward and upward! @payn4ward
@LoveTheBard Yes they are need based and as a supplement - well, it depends. I would say since she got the likely letter it will supplement. There are cases though where a merit award will offset a need based award.
I always thought grants were need based and scholarships merit, but some colleges might have need based scholarships.
You could ask them which of the aid might depend on EFC, and what is purely merit (certain GPA needed)?
@Fishnlines29 - I guess we’ll have to inquire. The number they gave her initially as a merit award with the likely letter is a different amount that the “scholarship” or the “grant” awards, so it’s hard to tell. In either event, I’m one proud (and pleased) mama…
Clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap U! clap clap clap C! clap clap clap L! clap clap clap A! clap clap clap U-C-L-A fight fight fight!
A couple more decisions still to come, but I think this is the one. Unless he hits the lottery.
For @STEM2017 Looking like Jim Mora Jr.
@Fishnlines29 No, it’s not her top choice, but it is up there on the list. Actually, I think it’s higher on my list than on D’s.
@youcee UCLA??? Omg!!!
