@carachel2 that is great, thanks for posting. Happy Halloween everyone! :ar!
I was surprised how generous the American Legion scholarships were in our area, and how few students applied.
Our HS has the deadlines and application links posted after December I think, and they go through the spring.
@ailinsh1 welcome!
RE: UMD status. As of last Friday, D2’s teacher had submitted a LOR, but the GC had not. I told Dana to check with her today but I’m betting she didn’t, and I have no nails left to bite!
Question: When UMD says all documentation, does that include results for any APs that have been taken? Dana can’t remember if the school sends those or if we indicated them on the sign-up form, a la ACT, and she can’t remember her College Board password, either. :-?
Am I the only one that can’t get unsubscribe to actually work? I’ve unsubscribed multiple times from Cornell and UVA mailings but they keep coming. It’s annoying.
At our school you can’t participate in DECA until 10th grade, our entire school would be disqualified.
Crying with you at the thought of $60K+ per year oop :_(.
@mommdc, the Boy Scout Troop has to be chartered through American Legion to apply for the Eagle Scout scholarship. I had looked at that, but our troop is chartered through one of our local churches.
@NerdMom88 – I don’t believe AP’s factor into the admission decision. With my DS 3 years ago, we never sent any AP scores until he’d decided where he was going.
@itsgettingreal17 – It might be challenging to stop the Cornell mailings as admissions is decentralized at the college level. Son has been receiving emails from four or five of the colleges, plus ROTC, and that one really makes me laugh, and kind of wonder what criteria they are using. I think I mentioned earlier that older son, a Jr at Cornell, still receives emails encouraging him to enroll in Cornell summer classes for HS students. Ummm…
Love the poem @carachel2.
I wonder if UMD-CP realizes what a total PITA their app is and the confusion they cause by not being on the CA.
@NerdMom88 – I hadn’t even considered sending AP scores to UMD, but not that you mention it, those scores are not captured by their app the way they are by the CA. Oh well.
@mommdc @mtrosemom interesting about the American Legion scholarships, my son’s troop is chartered by the local American Legion. But he’d have to earn his religious emblem to qualify for the Eagle Scout one, and I doubt can talk him into that.
Yeah, @CT1417, that’s why we wondered. I’m just going to go with the theory that the AP scores can be sent after acceptance. That makes the most sense, but the application process rarely follows common sense. sigh
OK—just looked, and it ‘only’ costs $15 to send AP scores, as far as I can tell. In other words, one $15 will send all scores to one school. Since UMD does not capture this info on their app, I wonder if it is worth sending, for the sake of scholarship consideration? Probably time to wander over to the UMD forum.
We didn’t send the AP scores to any college until D15 chose a school. We sent the scores only to that school. None of the schools asked for AP scores in the admission decsions.
I think if Maryland required/wanted AP scores there would be a place for them in the test scores (ACT/SAT) section.
Uh oh. Nice weather causing a surge in trick-or-treaters. Shouldn’t have bought candy so early, it’s nearly gone. 'Cuz I ate it. =))
Not even an hour in and we have had 40 kids!
Your child will know by the time they take the senior year AP exams in May where they will attend college, so have them put the school code on the test registration booklet and the scores will go right to the school, and for free.
We only sent AP scores for DS13 to Georgia Tech because they said they would consider them when making their decision. Not sure if they still look at them but I haven’t sent them to any of the schools DS17 has applied to.
The application wavier good for only today worked for LSU. DS17 went ahead and applied! still waiting on him to send me those ole miss essays that are due tomorrow though. :-w
We’re four hours behind y’all east-coasters, but we’ve got above-freezing temperatures up here in the supposed-to-be-great-white north, and we only bought 10 pounds of candy. I’m starting to worry about satisfying the rush we’re likely to get after I get home…
@MichiganGeorgia FYI, The big money at LSU requires a seperate scholarship app that opens in November, near the holiday. Easy app to get in, but worj to get the real money.
It is still over 80 degrees here. My 2 yr old grandson just threw up. (He should have been dressed as a big ole bacteria cell!) Hoping we manage to dogde whatever he has!
@youce Yes many UC’s now have 2 years of housing. But the only way they do that is put most of them in triples. Not sure S17 will be very happy in a triple and expect if he lands at a UC will end up off campus by sophmore year.
@panyward Had to renew my son’s passport when he was 15 years 10 months. !6 months old is the age for not needing parents to get a US passport. I was frustrated if and now he only has 5 year passport this time around. He was traveling only about a week after his 16th birthday too close to wait.
