Ooooh so many kids! So many awesome costumes! We just saw the entire Ghostbusters group, including the staypuft marshmallow (kid) and the dad as the slime ghost.
A HUGE inflatable T-rex just got caught in our rose bush over the door, he must be 8 feet tall-I love Halloween so much! \m/
I’m eating a lot of candy…on a bit of a sugar rush right now
QOTD: D17 is doing her own hunting for outside scholarships, since I’m not so sure they’ll help that much. They have them do it during school time, so if she’s doing it, they’re all being done in class. I need to check one that is through H’s work, but other than that no.
Fallen Chemist-that is really sad.
@Mom2aphysicsgeek too much candy for grandson? That got me every time when I was little. (eyes giant bucket of candy and decides to be done).
The teachers may have already uploaded their LORs. UMD is a huge school and it can take some time for applications to be matched with documents. As I recall, as long as the student portion is sent on time, all is well.
Also, the process can look last-minute and rushed, but most teachers know what they are doing and have been writing these letters for a long time. It sure is frustrating from the student’s point of view, though, I agree. But probably much more is going on than we know.
@CT1417 While I would agree with the others that AP scores are not necessary, I did send S17s AP scores to one school as @MichiganGeorgia did. A parent posted that she called the “submit all test scores” school and told them her D17 was an AP scholar and asked if they wanted AP scores. They said they wanted a hard copy of the certificate. My thought was AP scholar is an average of 3 on 3 or more APs. Rather than send the certification from college board, I paid the $15 to send the 3 scores because S17 had 3 5s and I thought if they were going to give the APs any consideration, they should see the 5s rather than the certificate.
This is my first time going through this process and I just checked one of S17s portals to get a feel for what I should expect. I clicked on the button for “test scores” and was surprised by what I saw. Maybe I shouldn’t have been surprised and this is standard but it’s my first time seeing the way a college lists scores. S17 submitted his ACT score. They dissected this score into a list of 12 scores! Composite, english, math, reading, science, STEM, ELA, Writing, Ideas and Analysis, Development & Support, Organization and Language Use. Then the percentiles next to each. Is this what everyone is seeing when they log into various portals?
@paveyourpath – that’s very interesting - seems like it is the ACT report’s detailed breakdown of scores perhaps – i can pull up our detailed report and look if helpful.
@carachel2 Okay, that is weirder than this dissection. Very interesting. @CA1543 Yes, it is literally all off of the detailed report the ACT sends. I just didn’t expect them to slice it up into 12 subscores. Maybe that’s standard. I haven’t seen any other schools post the scores yet.
So, update on our UMD issue. Apparently Naviance was hanging while attempting to upload to UMD. So DD’s teacher went back and uploaded directly to UMD and got a receipt from them. The direct upload shows up in her portal at UMD already. So we can relax. Only one of her teachers has submitted the LOR so far, but the requirement is one teacher and one counselor, so she’s met that at least.
First acceptance arrived in the mail today! State flagship, stats-driven rolling admissions so there wasn’t too much suspense, but it’s nice to have it confirmed in a large congratulatory envelope. D is excited!
@carachel2 - It is my poem. I wrote it last year when my twins were in the thick of EA admissions and I had to step away and vent for myself. I promise the Class of 2017 parents that this will all be a blip this time next year. And that your amazing kids will land where they belong. Best of luck to them all.
@madredos – Love your poem and hope your Ds are doing well at their respective universities. Have read about their choices from last year and congratulate you all on the accomplishments and opportunities!
It seems Rose Hulman is having problems receiving standardized scores. We’ve sent the SAT and the ACT on 9/28, as well as more scores from College Board when they were available last week. But they don’t seem to have received any of them… DD emailed them, and they said nope, they don’t see them, but send them a screenshot. Which we did. But still the portal hasn’t been updated…
Meanwhile, for the 3 other EA apps submitted a couple days ago (Purdue, IU, and Case), still no portal logins. So while I’m sure her scores were sent out, it would be nice to verify it somewhere…
