Update on D2’s application to UMD: She did actually check with the GC, who said the LOR hasn’t been submitted yet but she is “writing it.” We submitted the request to her for this school in August. grrr
Congrats on the first of hopefully many acceptances @mamaedefamilia
Hope everyone had a fun Halloween. My D was sad it was the last one home but she had a great time with her friends.
@paveyourpath thanks for that info about the AP scores for the all scores school. I’ll send it to UMD today. I think that was her only all scores school. I remember sending the sat scores and collegeboard had grayed out the option to pick the sat tests-they wanted both of them (she took the old one and the new one).
We still have one LOR in the wind for MIT. The teacher says she hasn’t gotten it, and got it confused with the common app. She’s a humanities teacher, so we can understand the confusion-she probably does not write a lot of LOR’s to MIT. D re-sent the request last night via the portal and the teacher said she’d look for it. Eek.
Other than that everything’s in for all the 5 colleges, she has one more to apply to in Dec, and one essay to write for CBHP in december, and we’re done for Nov.
<:-P
UMD does not require AP score reports at this time.
@DMV301 - Thanks! They are loving UNC and UF. If any of the 2017 kids are applying to either of those schools, let me know!
@madredos Love the hybrid avatar!
Son is applying to UF engineering. Its a looong shot, but you never know.
@STEM2017 That’s great! you never know!!!
@mamaedefamilia Conrgrats on the first of many!
Happy November 1! I hope all remaining EA/ED applications are submitted smoothly
Considering the issues people have had with the UMD app (including us), its probably a good idea to check all the portals of schools with Nov 1 deadlines this morning. Just to be sure all the moving parts are in place.
@littleray --that is one bored Mama!
@nw2this my D’s AP certificates arrived by mail at home, I think in August or September?
I just want to go into the CA and submit free apps. I need to seek counseling.
@littleray that thought crossed my mind, but NO!! [-X
@nw2this also if you sign into Collegeboard and download student AP score report, it should list all the exams taken so far, year taken, the score, and the AP scholar etc on the bottom
My D informed me last night that today is the 1st of 3 unofficial senior skip days. I asked her why 3? and she said it is because seniors get 3 excused college visits each year. But she only has 2 left since I “made” her go on a real visit last month. (and then I reminded her she will likely need to use the other 2 for visits in the spring if she accepted to any of her OOS schools we haven’t visited yet.)
This again confirms my feeling that kids at her HS don’t do college searches like we do. Pick a state school, apply, and go.
D ended up going to school today anyway. I would have let her skip if she wanted to go to the BBQ at the park that the kids had planned (its supposed to be 80 deg and sunny today) but she didn’t really seem like she wanted to. My kids are rarely sick, and are good students. I think D has missed a total of 3 days since 8th grade. IMO she has earned a fun senior skip day or two
Maybe next one…

Wanna share the free app list? ![]()
@stlarenas – so the kids who go to the BBQ, do their parents call them in sick or how does that work?
For excused college visits here you have to have a letter with letterhead signed by an admissions personnel from the school you toured. And they are super serious about it too! A smidge over the top IMO
DS is skipping first 2 periods and going in late. School emailed don’t call in for senior ditch day as they don’t want 140 phone calls.
