@Kayak24 - see if your ACT/SAT is on the official high school transcript, and ask if the college will accept it off of there. We only had to send scores directly from the testing agency to one school that would not accept them off the transcript. It saved a ton of money!
Yes @Kayak24 ! And @mommdc is right. The ACT won’t let you send multiple test dates on the same report like the SAT will. So two sittings times 12 schools at $13/each. :((
Over $300 just to send test scores. Most of his schools superscore or require you to send all sittings, so it made sense to boost (or complete) his application to send both sittings.
@bearcatfan I had no idea! D applied to another school this morning (and two last night) so I sent three ACT score reports out after reading about it online. I will look into whether it’s on her transcript for future applications.
Luckily, D was one and done with her ACT so it only cost $13/each. But I would NOT be a happy camper if I had to send multiple sittings. What a racket!!
Informal roll call…
- How many schools is your son/daughter applying to?
- How many applications are already done?
- How many supplemental essays were involved?

We had the no-gap-year convo with S this morning after a nice, home-cooked breakfast. It seemed to go fairly well, but he seems a bit numb, so I’ll keep an eye on him.
The UNM housing application opens soon, and FAFSA day is tomorrow, both of which need to be done now if he’s going in September 2018 vs. going in 2019. Telling him now also means he can talk to the small group of friends who are thinking about going to UNM together. Him moving up a year might move some of them up a year, so they also need to be on the ball with FAFSA and apps for admission, housing, etc.
Easy answers here @kayak24: 1, 1, 0
- Applied to 7
- They are all done
- Two needed nursing-specific essays; luckily we could use the same one for both.
- ~10
- 1 :-<
- 21 :-O I never counted them up before! Don't tell my D! :-$ That number *includes* the 4 essays for the UC app, but *does not* include the 17 additional short response questions 2 schools have! (Those schools are also very supp. heavy in general and she is applying RD, would not surprise me *at all* if she ditches them before January! :-h )
@Kayak24 2,2,0
The number for supplemental essays does not include scholarship applications. Including scholarship applications, the number is 2, possibly 3. One for Nat’l Merit, one for Elks, and maybe one for a local health-related scholarship.
Possibly more if S decides to apply for a couple more.
@Kayak24 this is where we are:
- How many schools is your son/daughter applying to? 5 or 6 (still waiting/deciding)
- How many applications are already done? THREE
- How many supplemental essays were involved? 8 supplemental essays/short essays for the ones that are submitted. An additional 3 for the others. Not too bad, and she was/will able to re-use/tweak some of them because the supplemental essay questions were very similar.
My D has her top 2 and her “Big State-U Safety” submitted with one acceptance in her back pocket. At this point she plans to focus on her school work for a month as her top 2 should begin offering merit packages in mid to late October. Once she knows if those two come through and she sees what “Safety Big State-U” is offering (potential full ride plus study abroad), she will be able to determine if it’s worth the time, effort and money to apply to her 4th and lower options which are considerably more expensive tuition than the top 3. At this point, I really don’t know how the price tag will be able to compete with her top 3. And frankly, it would be incredibly nice if she is happily committed to one of her top 2 by Thanksgiving . That may be a bit too optimistic, but definitely not out of the realm of possibilities. Fingers, Toes and Eyes crossed :D.
@DiotimaDM ohhh yes…the scholarship applications, many are due before January 1st require soooo many essays. That is another good reason for my D to sit back now and wait to see what happens with Merit. She can focus on scholarship essays vs college essays for big maybes.
@1822mom OH MY … 21. Yikes!
@bearcatfan Wow congrats on ALL apps submitted. Woohoo!
@AmyBeth68 We got them done early because we knew there would never be enough time after school started.
This weekend there is no physics homework. What a wonderful world. We went shopping, she got her hair done,she saw a movie with friends, she had a great ballet class, we ate dinner together and she’s planning on a Guitar Hero night with her sister. Plus it’s a three day weekend thanks to yesterday’s teacher in-service. He could still throw a web assign in there at any moment, but for now the birds are singing and the sun is shining.

- 2-5? or 6? Still don't really know at this point.
- 1 is done, plan is to finish CA this weekend, the rest are all on there.
- not really sure how many supplemental essays? There are some school specific short answer questions, but nothing major. I'm sure once honors college and other scholarship info comes out she will have a lot more.

- How many schools is your son/daughter applying to? 3:
- How many applications are already done? All 3 sent but 1 is waiting on homeschool interview in November, in order to be considered complete.
- How many supplemental essays were involved? 2.
- 22 including six UC's, subject to change at a moment's notice. :))
- 0. We're using the Just In Time method. :-??
- None of my business. =;
New here. She is applying to 8 or 9. 6 are submitted. I don’t know on the essays. One school she is applying to is an Ivy which we were told they ask for a few additional essays.
It’s weird that S18 is 18. Overnight he has aged out of scouts, must register as an adult member of the parish, must register for selective service, and I can no longer see his prescription refills. I’m sure I’ve forgotten some things…

How many supplemental essays were involved?
 None yet. There will be at least 4 for honors/scholarships for that one school.
DD is still trying to finish her common app. She finally sent a rough draft to her English teacher for review so at least we have progress! I’m really hoping she will finish the rest of the common app this weekend. All but one other school uses the common app.
