@ShrimpBurrito I am a WWU grad. We were in Bellingham a few weeks ago touring with S20. It would be the perfect location for him. I love Bellingham and would live there in a heartbeat if there were any real jobs there. It is my favorite area in WA state, if not the entire Pacific NW.
Procrastinator check in! S18 actually submitted 2 applications tonight–USC and CMC, both with December 1 merit deadlines. Since he is about to go out of town for an EC, this was necessary. No wi-fi at his hotel the night of 11/30 (the horror!)
Still has a major scholarship application due–guess I know what he’ll be doing tomorrow.
S submitted his Elks MVS application last night, so there’s a bit of ‘last minute’ here, too. We’re hoping he makes the $4k level in that one, mostly because we know he won’t be competitive past that. If he gets it, he becomes eligible to apply for a med school scholie later.

Also, if I promised you pics from our UNM visit, I’ll be getting them into an album soon so I can share them. I’ll let you know as soon as they’re ready.

D just logged in to her UC portal and saw the she is designated ELC. Her HS doesn’t rank but we had a hunch she’d qualify. Nice kicker for her UC apps!

@Veronica02 I’m a little in the dark here. My D hasn’t applied yet, since well, you know. She’s “thorough.” :(( But several weeks ago, maybe a couple months, she received a letter that said she was guaranteed UC admission (Top 9%) somewhere, if she didn’t get her choice(s). Is ELC designation in the UC portal any different?
@sushiritto - I’m pretty sure it’s the same thing but I’m not sure how/why your D got a letter in advance because the UC website says they designate after courses and grades are entered on the app:
“If you are a California resident and rank in the top 9 percent of students in your California high school class — and your high school participates in our ELC program — you may be eligible for ELC designation.”
“After you enter your coursework and grades in the UC application, we’ll compare your GPA to the historic top GPA for your school. If you meet or exceed that GPA, you’ll be designated ELC and we’ll add a note to your application”
Either way, congrats to your D as well! The fun part for my D is confirming she’s at least in the top decile at her HS. Since they don’t rank and it’s a pretty large public school, the kids can guess where they are but don’t really know. This is the first confirmation she’s gotten. The guaranteed UC admission aspect is less thrilling since UC Merced is the likely auto-admit school and not on her list anyway.
DD’18 had a good day yesterday - $40K Merit Scholarship from the University of Arizona and a Congressional nomination to the U.S. Naval Academy! A wonderful way to end another month in this long process.

@my2caligirls , S18 is also applying to FSU because it is one of the top schools for his intended major, has great merit $$ and is driving distance from us. But he has not had a chance to visit yet. We are looking forward to learning more about it.

@vistajay thanks for the info re FSU - we will likely have a look after the January admissions once we know the merit outcome but cautiously optimistic.
@Veronica02 @sushiritto recall that my D got the ELC letter from her high school last spring. Aside from guaranteeing a spot at UC Merced it probably does not mean much or at least I hope not as we did not return the letter in time as we thought it was just junk mail!
