@MACmiracle Congrats to your DD! My friends niece is a sophomore at Rowan studying Civil Engineering and doing very well!
Welcome @Ripley2b2b and @MomOutWest!
@MomOutWest , thank you for the information on outside scholarships and I can commiserate with you on the anxious waiting and too-frequent visits to and searches on CC.
:">
@Ripley2b2b , I haven’t heard of that but can assure you I would be (and was) reading into any and all correspondence from D’s ED school in spite of myself. :-t It’s so hard not to!
@MACmiracle , what fantastic news!! Congratulations!! =D>
Yeah, so my D18 found my CC account and read through allllll my posts, so I guess I can only post nice things from here on out (Hi Lauren).
LOL @amominaz! And hello Lauren!
Belated welcome to @MomOutWest!
@DiotimaDM - warms my heart! Bless you!
Hey Lauren!
Congratulations @MACmiracle !
Congrats to all on the recent acceptances and to those still getting those Apps done!
Hi Lauren! :-h
awww @DiotimaDM you are the best! Look forward to hearing more of these kitties’ tales :x
Congrats @MACmiracle !!
Welcome @Ripley2b2b my D has a good friend who has also ED to BU. Fingers-crossed for both of you!!
OK so in the mail today: BIG envelope from Whittier! D is super excited, we gather around to open it and… it says “Congrats on submitting your application blah blah” along with some marketing material! ~X( OK so it’s only been 2 weeks since she submitted her application, but they did manage to actually admit her a week ago so… :-?? I guess we’ll be waiting a while longer for the real mail.
Lesson learned: don’t get too excited by the big envelopes. :-< In hindsight, it was suspiciously thin. :))
PS: Hi Lauren, be nice to your mom! ;))
@sushrito amen on the lack of portal/email checking. I checked/stalked naviance to see one rolling app that I paid all the fees, testing etc and no one clicked request transcripts…so
Also inquired whether completed scholarship LOR was ever sent…deadline tomorrow…she’s not sure
So we are now stuck in Common App deadline day hell. D has two apps due tomorrow that have long been done. She had a big test today and so didn’t want the distraction of doing the proofreading and whatnot before tonight. Both apps are free, and the first one went through fine, but the second one took us to the payment page and got stuck.
Waiting, waiting… It’s not too stressful - the due date is actually tomorrow, for the free app. It’s not late until January, but she’s trying to apply by tomorrow for a fee waiver.
And another pro tip, since I have no kids applying anywhere this year:
Your kid can only go to one college at a time.
(and thank god, cause you can barely afford one college at a time, anyway.)
So 11 applications that return 1 acceptance your kid wants and can afford to go to is exactly as good as 10 acceptances if those 10 includes the same 1 acceptance and that’s where your kid ends up going)
End of PSA. Try not to stress!
@sushiritto I also worry that D doesn’t check the portals enough. In our house it is a fine tightrope I walk, if I mention it too much she gets mad and then it doesn’t happen…
D is making progress and submitted applications to 3 more so 6 are done. She is close on a seventh. One of her super reaches has 7 supplemental essays!
Hi Lauren. Don’t be hard on your mom. Even parents need to go somewhere for support. This beats hitting the bottle
My S rarely checks portals (as in never). My D16 also never did. She preferred to get the hard copy letter in the mail. Ugh.
I have not posted here in this thread in years, since my C/O 2014 went off to college, but now round 2 with my younger son. My son applied to many schools - 1 ED, several EA and RD. Last night he was admitted to the ED school. I must say I am surprised, not that I did not have faith, but I also subscribe to the B student and 3-3.4 student threads and first two kids went to state schools and no experience with ED/EA. He received a phone call. We have not received anything in writing, and no financial aid package yet to look over, but I think he is going to attend regardless unless there are some surprises outside of my EFC. When and how to have him withdraw other applications? Too soon? Have him ask his HS counselor to assist? I know I should relax and be happy it is over I know. Last time we had to wait until Mar/Apr to get admissions decisions. LOL. ^:)^
Hi @liveonboca, welcome back
I would wait for the formal admissions letter or at least to see it on his portal. I would also wait to see the financial aid package. If the FA is really crazy and off base, you can be released from the ED agreement. And you do not have to withdraw the other applications until you receive the FA package from the ED school. Congrats!
Whoo hoo @liveonboca! Waiting on ED, but likely won’t hear anything for my DD until December 14 or so… how awesome your son has news now! I agree, would not withdraw a thing until you have all official intel. (In at least one of my daughter’s portals, there’s a button for withdrawing an application, but not sure how you do it otherwise - likely just a simple email to admissions officer.)
wow @liveonboca Congratulations!
I was going to post on here anyway, welcome to December! For everyone waiting on EA/SCEA/ED, we’re in the last lap!
