That is one of the reasons I like visiting national parks. No connectivity. Blocks work out.
I am also shocked at the Questbridge results. So many great applicants.
TX too! We had big trouble when our Girl Scout council went to doing everything on line, half of our service are didn’t have home internet unless they could afford satellite. They had to drive to into town to use the computer at library and we aren’t really that far outside of Austin!
My daughter was finalizing her USC and Vandy scholarship applications this week, too. Everything submitted and now she rests a bit until ED notification.
LOTS of kids from her school applying to USC this year, too. We will see how that all shakes out.
There was no internet at Zion National Park and I was literally, seriously I mean literally, swinging from the A-frame roof structure inside the cabin. And running trails knocking toursts to the ground (jk). I vote for Internet service. Save a life. Too dangerous (for me) not to have it. :))
The Questbridge speaks of “matching.” What exactly does that mean when there are matches and when there aren’t matches? Do schools “bid” on students?
We for sure had tech issues on the common app last night. Second app never went through. D sent it in at 6am this morning no problem though.
@sushiritto - I was wondering the same about Questbridge. What is it exactly?
I agree that the Questbridge results look scary, but I think getting a match is fairly rare. @amominaz, it’s a program for low income kids to get them access to the selective colleges that participate. The kids go through steps in the process and many don’t make finalist. Those who do then pick and rank schools they want to attend - I’m not sure how many they can choose. Separately, those schools pick and rank the kids they will offer admission to. If they “match” then it’s like ED - the kid will go. All expenses are paid for the student.
Is anyone whose child is applying ED planning on reapplying RD if they don’t get accepted?
@amominaz, I don’t know any school that allows that. The student will either be accepted, deferred or denied admission. If the student is denied, that’s it.
Yes; I am seeing that now @suzy100.
I’m finding myself more nervous than I expected, hoping my S gets into his ED. He’ll likely have other good options if he doesn’t (his EA options if they come through, or one school he’s into already, or the RD schools he’ll apply to if he’s not in ED), as he and my husband and I have all been saying all along, so I didn’t expect to get stressed about it. But it’s such a good fit for him, and I just learned this week that they hardly defer anyone, just yea or nay, so he’ll probably know one way or the other in a couple of weeks.
I should read something non-college-related instead of thinking about it when there’s nothing I can do.
The real envelope from Whittier came today! 30k annual scholarship plus an invite to compete for more! $-) :D/ AND she also heard from Beloit today: admitted with a 30k annual scholarship! <:-P Yippee! She’s so excited to have 2 schools now in play, and the small liberal arts kind she likes! It’s a huge relief for her to be able to move the big state safeties off the table #:-S
Fingers crossed for everyone else waiting for December decisions!! 8->
What great news, @1822mom! BIG Congratulations to your D! :-*
Wow, great news!
Congrats, that’s terrific!
I’m so jealous of those of you with acceptances in hand or whose kids have at least completed their applications. You folks are living the dream!!! Go pat yourselves on the back for doing something right. I’m going to go pour myself another glass of wine.
Yay @1822mom ! That’s terrific!
In other good news, one of my D’s classmates was matched through Questbridge. I didn’t even know the classmate applied, but they are one of the nicest people you’ve ever met and very involved in giving back to the community. Everyone here is thrilled.
And I’m jealous of those of you who live close enough to the national parks to take advantage of them. It sounds lovely.
I am at a playoff game, waiting for the third quarter so I can watch my daughter submit her essays during band break. But apparently Vandy has extended the deadlines on the upload page. X_X D is planning to risk it and submit tomorrow. ~X(
