Parents of the HS Class of 2018 (Part 1)

Congratulations @seansdad !

@MACmiracle: well, we WILL have an insane layover in DC! S18 could meet your D!

Down to one more app before Jan 1. I guess that’s a glimmer of light I see - at least at the end of this part of the tunnel

At least one from D’s school got into Stanford. Not sure how many applied or if anyone else got in. Her school has a culture of non-competitiveness and they don’t generally share that info.

According to Naviance, about 30 per year apply and usually 2-3 get in.

2 kids (that we know of) applied ERA to Stanford (Out of 51). 1 was accepted. It was no surprise. High stats kid, Eagle Scout, Search and Rescue, big interniship last summer. Dad is alum and they are super involved doing events 4+ times a year etc.

DD is working on finishing her app today. She always knew the other kid was more likely to get in than her, but we sent 2 kids there last year RD so who knows. Our school currently has 3 kids at Stanford.

Guess who finally finished the FAFSA? X_X

D18 has an ED decision coming this Friday. She also applied to some EA for scholarship consideration and our in states. She has a couple she’s working that she will submit if she’s denied and one she hasn’t even started she will work on. One she will submit tomorrow regardless because it’s a fee waiver so why not? If she’s accepted she will immediately rescind all her other apps because we are full pay and I don’t want to hold up other people’s potential acceptances.

D is waiting to hear from her EA school, hopefully word will come early next week. She worked on RD apps this weekend with no prompting from me. Her bff got denied Stanford so I think that spooked her. Word is that a student at the school with a fairly remarkable back story was admitted. And we are still waiting on her safety which hopefully comes next week as well.

The mama is nervous.

D said that the others who were denied from her school have near perfect resumes. According to D, much smarter and more accomplished kids than her.

ED result advice? Hmmm. Well, what I told myself was “suck it up buttercup.” And then I had two vigorous workouts last night and today. And then tomorrow a long run to wallow in my sorrow. :(( D was initially ticked, and now just seething, but she puts on a brave face.

We’re waiting on an EA decision due before Christmas Eve. A school that’s not at the top of her list, but one in the pocket would be real nice right about now. [-O<

D’s BFF will hear from UChi the night before the first day of semester finals. Really, schools? Can you give these kids ANY breaks?

Good Morning Y’all!

If you are interested in joining the facebook group, please send me a PM.

@labegg I’ve gotten so behind on this thread that I skip pages and pages of this thread. What is the facebook group?

D18 got into Carnegie Mellon SCS in ED round (got notified at midnight)

Huge Congratulations @Pri930! That’s amazing!

@1518mom, it’s a closed/secret Facebook page where we use our real names and post pictures of our kids. It doesn’t take anything away from the forum here at CC, in my opinion, but just adds to it for those who want to shed their anonymity

For all of you getting disappointing news, I am so sorry. A bit of encouragement my son got deferred from his ED and then ultimately rejected. Then he was rejected from his second choice. He is at a school which maybe was in the top 5 on his list. He is so happy he told me the other day he wished he would have applied ED there and been done. All of your kiddos work so hard and it isn’t easy to see them disappointed. Remind them how much you love them and no schools decision changes how proud you are of them. They are smart resilient kids and they will end up at the right place!! Good Luck to you all :-*

@lbf Thank you for your kind words. D and I are watching the men’s college soccer championship between Stanford and Indiana right now on TV and even though we live near Stanford and have attended their games and rooted for them all our kids lives, GO HOOSIERS! :))

@bearcatfan Thanks. I’ll have to think on that.

I think we have stalled on writing scholarship essays. I think the mindset is right now, why not wait until decision and then apply. Scholarship applications are due like a month after EA decision dates. So, I guess I understand but I sure which she would just do them and we can just put it in the back of our mind until packages start arriving.

@Pri930 wow, that’s phenominal! I hope your D has a great rest of her Senior year.

@sushiritto I’m rooting for Stanford, but only because I know a kid on the team!
