@sushiritto Hope those Hoosiers trounce Stanford!
@sushiritto - I almost choked on my lunch laughing at your comment!
Stanford won 1-0 in OT. That’s 3 titles in a row for the men. And the Stanford women beat UCLA for the women’s soccer championship last weekend. That’s your sports update for today.
@sushiritto According to my friend (mom of kid on team), that’s the first time at Stanford that both the men’s and women’s teams won their championships in the same sport in the same year.
@Pri930 , CONGRATULATIONS!!! What an exciting relief for you!! Now you can relax and enjoy the holidays and the spring! =D>
Big congrats to @Pri930 !! <:-P <:-P <:-P how exciting to be done!!
Moving on from rejection, submitted Wash U today. Yay for no additional essays!
@1518mom just for clarification. It’s the first time for D1 soccer. However, UConn has won both men’s and women basketball championships in the same season twice.
@Booajo D moved on. I’ll let the rejection eat at my craw a little while longer. And then I’ll hold a grudge until the earlier of: a) D21’s Stanford application and admissions cycle or b) forever.
(tongue-in-cheek)
@Pri930 Congrats! CS at CMU is a difficult admit. :-bd
D still has many more applications on her list to do. Zero done this weekend.
For those near the Farm, just go to the shopping center and park across a couple of spots in the lot, litter a bit more than usual, and snag a few coins from the fountain,
Or linger while using the embarrassingly inane interactive touch screen map, causing a long backup (those maps are the some of the most ridiculous “upgrades” to the mall experience I’ve ever seen). I think the university still gets a cut of the profits even though they don’t run it anymore like they used to back in the day.
@booajo – D18 submitted her WashU app a couple of days before S REA. She wondered how many apps were submitted to Top 20 universities after Friday by fellow S refugees
My D also submitted WashU, but accomplished nothing else, due to homework/school commitments. I told her betting on USC acceptance probably means she’ll be staying close to home, and I’m OK with that.
I wish everyone the best of luck with their ED and REA decisions this week and next. I haven’t eavesdropped on many threads, but from the “sound” of it, at a minimum ND and UPenn release Monday-Wednesday. I’m sure there are plenty of others coming soon too.
@chippedtoof Unfortunately the Stanford mall got some of my dollars this weekend. “My hypocrisy knows no bounds.” :-??
All the best for this week to those waiting on ED/EA/SCEA. Hope you all hear good news.
Thanks! Dd hears Tuesday. Congratulations on your Son’s admission!
@sushiritto Yes, I was only talking about Stanford, not all D1 soccer or sports. I don’t follow sports enough to know these kinds of stats.
My daughter was very productive over the weekend. Probably nervous energy waiting for the ED decision this Friday! She just has one application to complete if she doesn’t get the ED acceptance. Everything else submitted or waiting to submit. Happy she won’t have that looming over her head during finals and Christmas break!
2 EA and 1 ED notification this week, for sure. D will either be celebrating like crazy this weekend, or thinking about what RD apps she’ll be working on over break… (has refused to work on any, pending ED; which I’ve supported – she’s done the Common App essay and had teachers upload recs, just needs to write some supplementals, if needed, and get scores sent!)
There’s a chance that Rutgers will start releasing EA acceptances this Friday as well; we’re also waiting on Miami University OH and hopeful those will be released before Christmas. We’re still waiting on anything from Delaware other than the portal; still no physical letter and no word on merit (unusual, many who were admitted after my D18 have already received their merit award). So there’s still a bit of anxiety here; albeit nothing like the ED kids waiting on their top choices. I think my D is just ready for the process to be over and to send her commitment in. But that’s not happening until we get all the merit packages and get through the scholarship process. Still a long way to go for a lot of kids.
S waiting on one ED and one EA this week, and another EA by the 24th. He hasn’t shown much nerves until recently but it’s showing a little now that the ED is coming up. I’m nervous for him though am trying to convey calm and reassurance (he’ll be fine whichever he gets into, as he has a list of great places where he could learn and thrive with a range of selectivity, but he does still hope for his top choice as it’s such an excellent fit for him). Wish we knew specific dates - all three are “by X date” and have sometimes come out earlier.
He’s been working on his RD essays, so he’d need to finalize them if ED didn’t happen, but he wouldn’t be starting from scratch.
Back to Stanford…
One of my D’s friends was accepted. Full IB diploma, club rower, really likeable, social guy. No major hooks that I’m aware of, although he is Hispanic. The geographical diversity may have helped (we are in OK), and he probably had great LORs.
