Parents of the HS Class of 2018 (Part 1)

More good news today, yay

Congratulations @labegg !

A lot of news on this thread in the last few days. Congrats to those who are getting the news they’d hoped for! Sending virtual hugs to those who are getting disappointing news.

S’s good news is an acceptance to Fordham with the Deans Scholarship. It lists a “minimum” amount, so not sure what he will actually get, but the minimum amount is not enough to make it doable. Not sure when he’ll get word of something more specific, so we’ll keep it on the list till then.

@melvin123 D may have a few college decisions released before March. Her confidence is nicked at the moment, but she’ll overcome. :-bd

@sushiritto SHE WILL OVERCOME. :)>-

Been lurking/reading for the last few weeks and finally decided to post. I have twin daughters graduating this year. They are not super high stats kids like so many seem to be on here.

One is a golfer who has been going through the recruitment process with schools the last few months. She has pretty good grades but not great test scores as she really struggles with math (only just now taking Algebra II as a senior). She is looking at SLACs that are part of the NAIA. She has had coaches from a variety of schools contacting her, but we honed in pretty quickly on a SLAC in the NAIA being the best fit for her. She narrowed it down to 3 schools that she went to on recruiting visits, and we hope she can have a decision made by the end January. All 3 coaches have made/will be making offers. The front runner at the moment has accepted her with a $19K athletic scholarship offer, and we are still awaiting final numbers on anything else from financial aid there (will know by early January). The other 2 schools, she is waiting on the official acceptance letters and financial packages but was given a ballpark figure at one’s visit that would be around $20-24K for her total scholarship package (athletic/merit combined). So, we are just playing the waiting game for her.

The other has applied only to a local school that is where I got my undergrad. If she is not offered any scholarship money or she isn’t accepted, she may go the CC route and transfer after 1-2 years. She has Asperger’s, ADHD, and anxiety so she has some struggles. Luckily, where she has applied is a pretty affordable school, so even a small scholarship would make a difference.

Congrats to all here on the acceptances and great offers their kids have received. It’s all so exciting.

Also, I wanted to say that Trinity is amazing for any who are looking at it. My (much younger) sister graduated from there in 2013 and went on to Duke for grad school (2015). She absolutely loved Trinity. She played softball and we visited her a lot to go to her games and all. San Antonio is a great city and it’s a gorgeous campus. I wish it was an option for one of my girls, as I would have loved for either to go there. If anyone wants more info on Trinity from the perspective of a somewhat recent grad, she would happily answer questions, as she loves promoting the school.

Welcome @golfmom2018! I have had a couple of friends navigate the whole sport recruiting thing. That is a whole animal unto itself! Best of luck to both your girls

Thank you @amominaz! Yes, it has been an adventure for sure! We had no experience with the sport recruiting so I have done a ton of research along the way (yay for being a librarian who is good at that sort of thing). My sister played softball at Trinity, but they are D3 and she didn’t need the hook of being an athlete at all, so this has been a whole new world.

@Kayak24 Congrats on JHU!!! I was first guessing U Penn and then Columbia, but JHU was my third guess. Trying to narrow down by ED (as opposed to EA) and close to Pennsylvania  So happy she got in!!

Check out Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). They have a very good photography program.

@gclsports FWIW a 2016 Mom just told me that Fordham sometimes upgrades merit packages in the spring.

My friend’s D also got into Fordham and will be awaiting spring merit package numbers before making a final deduction.

Congrats on all the great acceptances!

DD accepted today to Siena with presidential scholarship.

@golfmom2018 welcome! My dd isn’t a high stats kid either, but this group is very supportive

D is in at Fordham with full tuition - OMG!

Welcome @golfmom2018! Will enjoy following along your kids journey to college! Sounds like solid plans for both!

Congrats @taverngirl. I know two fantastic kids attending Siena. It’s a really good school!

Congrats @GertrudeMcFuzz! Terrific news!!
