NMF letter on the way to the house today! If you will all excuse me, I must devote my mental energy to willing the mail carrier to arrive on the early side of his normal delivery window.
Congratulations to all members of the NMF club!
About the only exciting thing here is emails matching my daughter to local scholarships. There is a giant local scholarship foundation that serves as a clearinghouse for a lot of local ones. Once you fill out the big application it matches you to individual scholarships. It isn’t a guarantee to be matched but at least you know you are being considered for some.
She won’t get all of them, and she might not get any of them. It’s for the whole county, so it will be interesting to see what if anything she is awarded.
So far, one only required a budget form and two required essays that were tweaks of some college ones. The best ones are those that don’t require you to do anything else.
@bearcatfan Good luck on the local scholarships! D18 just turned in her local scholarship apps to the school today, including one that had to be handwritten instead of typed. She procrastinated forever on that one! All the rest required minimal to zero effort…just printing out the same info she’s been copy/pasting into all the college and honors program apps. Won’t hear anything on those until late April. Sigh. More waiting.
Sorry, my post from earlier posted twice.
93 days to graduation on May 19th, but I think school is over for him the first week of May, then he’s off campus for the rest of the year.
@ChattaChia We are the same. Grad May 19th but seniors don’t come the last two weeks so I am not sure when the last day will be but it will be soon.
D was accepted to the Weber Honors College at SDSU. Assuming she gets into one of the 4 UCs she’s applied to, she’ll have the tough decision – which is better, Honors College with all the perks that go with it, or the more ‘prestigious’ UC name?
Wow- that makes me REALLY sad- I teared up when I counted only 94 days until my 2nd baby (she’s still my baby even though she is 18!) graduates high school on May 20th. I was probably the only mom that sat there with tears in my eyes pretty much the WHOLE graduation ceremony for DD16. Yes, I was THAT MOM!! So embarrassing, I tried to hold back, but I pretty was wiping tears from my eyes at everything as she was growing up, starting at her kindergarten musical and all the way through, so here I am again, DD18 about to graduate in 3 months and just typing this, I am tearing up! I’m such a goofball. Oh my gosh, I’m extra emotional from this mess in Florida, I think I hugged my DD28 for like 5 minutes this morning when I dropped her off at her before school care and I had a meeting I had to get to for work!
Finally got our NMF letter at home today- thank goodness that wait is finally over. Now she can send the letter in to her college to notify them that she qualifies for the National Merit scholarship. Once they confirm that scholarship in her portal, THEN we can relax and know that tuition and room will be covered by the school’s National Merit scholarship and has other scholarships, too, so she is set.
D got her NMF letter in the mail today as well - it’s hard to believe that incredibly long wait is finally over!!!
DD got admitted to Clemson Calhoun Honors college. Good news after UNC and UVA rejections.
Great news, @burghdad! Congrats to her!
Hooray @burghdad! So happy for your D and for you too!
@burghdad so nice to have good news! Does your D now prefer this to Delaware, or no preference yet?
Yeah @burghdad! Great news
@melvin123 . I think she definitely likes the Clemson big sports vibe. Also Clemson will accept about 35 AP credits so she would be going in essentially as a sophomore.
However udel is much closer to home.
I think ultimately Clemson would win out but we will probably need to take a trip to each.
Congrats @burghdad! My DS got into Calhoun as well. Clemson is still probably a financial reach for us but not quite a NFW. Will be hard to justify when there are other schools with merit that are much cheaper. We’ll have to compare the value of the “products” – and getting into Calhoun definitely makes the Clemson product a better one than his cheaper options.
@S18D20mom congratulations to your son. For us with merit money it takes it down to in state Pitt or psu
However she is still waiting on Vandy brown and Princeton. I don’t think she will get in to those but since she will get no merit or need money …
@MPT3D DD got word today she wont be moving on in a scholarship competition after having to complete an application with essays and then go through 3 intensive interviews. Disappointing to miss out of the full ride but it has been hanging over our heads at the same time, not being able to make plans for other things. She doesn’t get many disappointments so this is a learning experience here, too.
