Parents of the HS Class of 2018 (Part 1)

My daughter is under holistic review at LSU …does anyone know anything about this process ?

Well, poo. S did not advance to the next round in the Elks MVS, which rules him out for that med school scholarship later.

Ah, well. I’ve congratulated the winners, and I don’t think S will be too upset about it.

@DiotimaDM I’m sorry the Elks MVS did not work out.

I’m sorry, @DiotimaDM !

Does anyone else keep getting this stupid “amazon you have won” pop up?

@shelleee yes very annoying

Sorry about Elks @DiotimaDM. :frowning:

Shoot @DiotimaDM sorry to hear

@wcarter, did you call LSU and ask them what the process is? Is that her top choice? My first thought would be- Are they missing information or have they made a mistake? I had never heard of holistic review before and I was curious, so I went to the LSU website and they have a section called freshman admission FAQs where they mention holistic review, you can go to the site and see if that helps you at all… good luck I hope you find out the information you need and I hope this helps you!

S18 accepted to Cal Poly SLO. Whew, March is starting! It will be a very nerve racking month around here. For those who have an S or D who hasn’t decided yet, how would you rank the chances they will attend each of the various schools? I still have almost no idea except I don’t think he will attend CSU Pomona or CU Irvine. Irvine seems great but he is showing relatively little interest.

@DiotimaDM , sorry about Elks but your talented kiddo still has great options!

Here are my current thoughts on D18’s future:

45% – USC (assuming she’s admitted)
45% – Bama (assuming she gets UFE or RR)
10% – UPenn, WashU, Duke, Rice (awaiting admission results for all of them)

It will be a tough decision in April between the top two if things work out. I see three months of hand-wringing: March being the wait for admission notifications, April being the decision month, and May being the buyer’s remorse/did I pick the right one month.

Things will really get confusing if USC is a no, Bama+UFE/RR is a yes, and one or more of the 10% schools is a yes.

Wow @droppedit. So many factors and decisions to wait on. I really wish these colleges would give us information - admit, scholarships, financial aid- sooner! Having to wait Into March for admission seems like torture. And scholarships, too. Good luck good luck good luck! Maybe saying it three times makes it even better!

Exactly 2 weeks from today S18 will get decisions from two of his top choices. Both send an email and do not specify a time for release.

Knowing S18, he will be sleeping in because it is a Saturday. I will be stalking CC to see when people get acceptances. So, if they come out in the morning, do I wake him up? If its bad news, that would be horrible. Do I ask for his email password so I can see? I don’t think I can wait a second longer than necessary!!!

Wake him up.

Not the best start to our spring break yesterday. Incredibly high winds in our area had every flight cancelled but ours so we were still hopeful. After a couple of delays it was finally cancelled after a 4 hour wait. The airline we were on only has Monday and Friday flights in and out of our airport so we are now trying again on Monday which only gives us 3 full days away. DH was already in FL waiting for us as he had a convention finish up on Thursday so now he will be alone till Monday evening.

To top it off, we realized that we will now be in the air when DS’s last school, his reach, his one in-state, his dream, will release decisions. Hopefully, by the time we get somewhere with wifi, the school website will not have crashed from all the activity like it did last year.

@VaNcBorder - sorry to hear about your vacation. This storm was crazy. Hope you get out on Monday and have some great weather in FL.

Let him sleep then enjoy the moment together.

My baby boy is a Brown Fellow (and a GEMS scholar) at U of L. Wow, kind of over the moon right now!

New odds:

Louisville 100%.
Kentucky and all others 0%.

Woo hoo, @LOUKYDAD !!!
