Parents of the HS Class of 2020 (Part 1)

Maybe still a mystery for the SYA kids, though, since they use their home / graduating h.s.'s CEEB when they register, and I don’t think they count as internationals? Just curious (and in need of distraction).

@HarrietMWelsch it doesn’t matter where they took the test or what code they used, it only matters where the computer that is logging into the CB account is located. You can “trick” CB’s system by using a VPN that is located in a different state with an earlier date. Let’s say you took the test in CA but went on vacation Mexico and used you hotel’s WiFi to log in to your CB account you could get your score on the 11th instead of waiting until the 12th.

Thanks, @3scoutsmom.

So the SYA kids from here (NY) would do better to have their parents log in and get scores on the 10th.

@HarrietMWelsch - I’m glad you asked about what is my favorite thing about my kids school. It used to be the award winning jazz band & instructor my D15 was in. amazing. But that’s over & teacher is gone. School is pretty urban and high percentage of free lunch program kids; i’m actually having a hard time finding something i like about it anymore. SO glad you asked; I’ll find something positive! (have an 8th grader and we are debating if we want her there.) good question.

We homeschool so my favorite thing about the school is the start time- flexible but never before 10am. Ha!

Too funny, @milgymfam. @bgbg4us, glad it’s useful! What does your 8th grader think?

@milgymfam when we homeschooled my favorite thing was having parent teacher conferences;-)

Lots of things to like about D’s public HS, but the non-academic thing that jumped to mind is the annual variety show they put on. Music, dance, skits ala SNL. It’s great.

My favorite thing is that I went there and had some of the same teachers, so I can relate when they mention specific rooms or stuff.

My favorite thing about my Ds school is just how kind and supportive the teachers seem to be. She’s loved every one she has had so far.

Did all parents get an email from CB on Monday staing: your PSAT score will be available soon, and then promping to create a CB account? S20 already has an account

^yes. I broke down and emailed the GC but no response yet. This holding of scores for a week is ridiculous.

One of my favorite things about my son’s large public school is the relationships my son has with his teachers. You don’t have to be an athlete to feel like you’re somebody at his school.

@suzyQ7 LOL. You can make it!

@socaldad2002, our daughters’ situations sound more alike by the minute. It doesn’t bother me as much that I can’t see the scores before they are released by the CB or that ACT scores haven’t been updated yet, but it worries me how organized the counselors will be next year when it really matters. Now I’m stressing out a bit that two teachers who have till the 7th to upload their recommendations for another summer program still haven’t done them. D checked in today and both have assured her it will be done in time - but I’ll relax when I see that. They had over a month to do them, but maybe they were focusing on seniors’ requests for college recs, I understand those take priority.

@typiCAmom, most likely it is just as you’re guessing: that they’re very focused on the seniors as people finish apps and even as the first round of ED / EA decisions start coming. I keep trying to tell myself how much I’ll appreciate that next year, when it’s our turn. Sometimes it actually even helps.

@HarrietMWelsch just wanted to say I love your user pic!

@taverngirl, thanks! I do love my alter ego.

Ok,the GC finally uploaded D’s PSAT score into Naviance. She got a 1410 with zero prep, wondering now if she had studied for the test she might have made the cut-off? The interesting thing is her Math score (730) was the better section but on the ACT it was 27, her worst section (31 composite). She said she may want to take the SAT next year if her 2nd ACT score is not where she wants it? We were all hoping she would be done with testing after the 12/8 exam…the plot thickens…

We haven’t gotten this year but ours was just the opposite. The math was 680 last year but 35 on the ACT
