Parents of the HS Class of 2020 (Part 1)

We got my daughters today. She dropped in math from sophomore year but went up in reading. Overall score dropped by 40 points, but her selection index is 4 above our state historical cut off so I think she is good. She has a 36 ACT so I think we are done testing! Woo hoo!

@socaldad2002 209 is pretty far from the California cut. Unlikely prep would have gotten her there so i wouldn’t fret about it now.

Says the one whose kid refuses to do any prep

sigh Our Naviance still hasn’t been updated.

@KKreis Congratulations to your D making the cut off!!!

Wrt Naviance, if I don’t see sophomore year’s PSAT there, should I assume they don’t load any PSAT scores into it? :-/

I think I’ve figured out why schools with Naviance have not posted PSAT scores yet. It’s a conspiracy, they want the parents and student to log in a bazillion times so they can show how ā€œwell usedā€ the program is to be able to justify the cost to the administration. It’s the only explanation I can think of!

@3scoutsmom back when my oldest took the PSAT (5 years ago) I wasn’t aware of whether we were able to log in to get her scores online, but I do know that her school had the scores for a couple of weeks before they sent them out in the mail (on paper, the old fashioned way) and justified the delay by saying that they wanted the kids to focus on finals. So in our case there might be some of that sentiment still even though we’ll be able to see them on the college board site next week.

Not our case, our kids start finals on 12/17 and our CB release date is 12/10 so getting the info sooner would be better than closer to finals.

Our finals are last week of January.

My kid has no idea when the scores are coming out. Her chances are slim and her best chance is commended. Our finals are the week of the 17th too. Maybe I’m not understanding but what is the significance of the scores being close to the finals?

Remember though, 99.5% of kids (and parents) don’t give a rat’s patooty about PSAT scores.

I think the parents may care more than the kids.

so why torture the other .05% that do?

For sure…but still it’s only a very few crazy parents, overall…

I think its partially based on where you live. Being from Illinois not a lot of the kids are going to the south where most of the NMF schools are. My daughter did know one of them who ended up going to Alabama though

Our school pimps the heck out of our NMF’s on their website and social media so I know they care.

I think it is some admin who loads the data in to Aeries and this just isn’t a priority.

I’ve talked to the GC’s and I’m sure it’s a power trip. Our school averages about 28 NMFs a year out of a class of about 700 so in our school it closer to 4% than .05% I’ve talked to the GC in charge of up loading to Naviance and she’s confirmed that it only take a few minutes but for what ever reason they don’t want to give the kids access yet.

Our D20’s high school doesn’t use Naviance, so I think that we’ll be waiting for PSAT scores to come out through CB. This exercise in patience is probably a good thing for me. I need the practice.

Our GC just uploaded the score to Naviance!! DS20 has an SI of 221 which has been the cut off for TX for the past two years. @Glitterbug I’m going to need some of your patience because it’s going to be a l-o-n-g 9 months until the official cut offs are released!

3scoutsmom - i’m guessing you were very excited to see that and your heart was racing! that’s a nice score. hope it works out

@3scoutsmom, congratulations to you and your son! Our scores still haven’t posted, but I am not holding my breath. Instead, freaking out about the 2 recommendation letters that sill haven’t been uploaded (due tomorrow). Caught D on the phone as she found one of the teachers right after school - hopefully that means at least one of the recommendations could be finished today…
