That’s a great set of options. Is there a preference for an academic area of interest?

He’s pre-med focused but doesn’t want to major in science. Wants to be able to pivot to law or business if he should choose, applied public health, history of science and medicine type majors everywhere.

I’m sorry that your S24 didn’t get all the results he was hoping for, but WOW! What a fantastic slate of options! His top choices are all wonderful schools!

So, I’m going to cheer for him choosing SCHC because that is where my S24 is going  . . . but if you son is thinking about med school/law school etc., the full ride plus enrichment fund certainly seems appealing. But truly, he can’t go wrong with those great choices. Congratulations!

I would definitely have expected an acceptance as a Robertson finalist. I can see how that would have been a big disappointment. However, he has wonderful options and that’s what really matters.

I’ll make a plug for WUSTL. It’s always been one of my favorite schools- so much to offer in a beautiful setting and the kids strike me as particularly nice. Saint Louis also has a lot to offer as a city- great restaurants, sports, free zoo, Forest Park, museums, arts and music scene…. Very convenient to get to airport too- you can take the metro from campus. Best of luck to your son as he decides on two great options!

Gratefully, I think D24 is pretty flexible. We live in a small mountain town, where D24 works as a ski coach and has a very impressive outdoor resume (mountaineering, climbing, backpacking, etc.). D24 is also outgoing and social. I don’t think she’d be into your standard keg party, but she’d love a costume and dance party. She also has school spirit, and I think she’d like college traditions. She enjoys intellectual discussions, and when her current plate is full, she is the type that just gets another plate. Last, she did a month-long summer program at BU last summer and seemed to enjoy Boston a lot.

Dartmouth and Bowdoin offer a new experience on a new coast but with some of the familiar comforts of home.

Swat offers the benefits of a city proximity and, perhaps slightly more than the others, a culture of genuine intellectual curiosity.

Wesleyan offers a combination of all these things.

And, if she decides she wants a BFA, WashU is great.

There are some minor financial aid issues that may need to be worked out with Bowdoin and Dartmouth (and maybe WashU if we ever receive their package), but I think she could thrive at any of these schools, all of which are awesome. I feel extremely lucky and privileged that she has so many great options.

She sounds awesome! Thanks for replying in good faith and not taking offense at my earlier post. I was worried that I sounded judgmental.

This makes it sound like the results were not what you hoped for…

And this makes it sound like an absolutely amazing outcome, with acceptances to a bunch of top schools. With the exception of the WL at Duke and Brown, what could have been better? Where would have the ED been in the original plan?

4.0 GPA and 35 ACT. His EC must have helped I think. He is a RSI alumni and a Coke Scholar. He had a lot of leadership positions at his school.

Congratulations on his acceptances to ND, Cornell, UNC and U of SC. What is he going to major in?

D24 is closer to decision! After 5 rejections and 2 waitlists I made her apply to our flagship over the weekend (rolling admissions) and she was accepted yesterday. From an affordability perspective, this is by far the best option. The goal is med school so we are advising her to incur the least debt as possible for undergrad. She also has at least a semester’s worth of college credits already that are transferable to both of her options (UNH and UMaine).

She’s still feeling a little defeated she didn’t get accepted to the selective schools on her list. TBH, I don’t know what she could have done differently. Academically she was right there with GPA and rigor of her HS classes, but it seems she didn’t set herself apart with her ECs or essays/recommendations. I know she will have great success at either university and beyond. I’m very much looking forward to the upcoming admitted students days.

This will probably be my last post on CC until I start the journey for S28. Thank you to the CC community for being a place of refuge these last few months. I’ve read so much great advice and followed along on each of your kid’s journeys through this crazy admission cycle. I wish you and your children all the best!

They definitely will not withdraw him. Williams was the only school my son applied to that asked for AP scores on the portal and then again after the final tests. I think they just like to track that information for future admissions purposes.

Great! Thank you!

Congrats to people who got acceptances yesterday and congrats to all of us (or I guess all of us who don’t have a Stanford RD applicant?) on being DONE! with this part at least.

S24 got the best e-mail today from the orchestra director at Amherst, congratulating him, telling him about music at Amherst, and saying nice things about his music supplement. It’s a sharp contrast to Grinnell, where he’s been unable to get anyone to respond to his e-mails asking about music at Grinnell or about sitting in on rehearsals or meeting faculty when he visits. We’re about ready to cross it off the list, even though I think academically and socially it would be a great fit. Music is just too important to him, and the music faculty at Grinnell is either too busy or doesn’t care enough to get back to him; either one is a dealbreaker. I think the tentative top 4 right now is St. Olaf, UGA, Amherst, and Emory. There’s room for another school to sneak in there and win him over still, but that’s where he is right now I think.

Interesting data on Harvard.

We’re thinking WUSTL here for our physics/philosophy D24. It’s just a special place! Best wishes on your decision.

Sorry to hear about Grinnell. We had such a positive impression of the school but this lack of responsiveness is troubling. I’m sure AOs hate it when faculty members sink their chance of enrolling a strong student.
