Parents of the HS Class of 2024 (Part 2)

I would take the classes and talk as much as you can to the students that are working admitted students day to get their thoughts on housing and whatever else you really want to know.

Admitted students day at SU sealed the deal for my son, who is now a junior there and couldn’t be happier! It’s a great combination of play hard, but work even harder. TONS of school spirit and lots of opportunities for motivated students.

We had Denver in our top five, too. Mine decided she wants the rah rah instead, but I loved du too!

She forgot to check SU sports of the last 5 years

So D30’s K-8 let the kids out early for the eclipse, and she successfully lobbied us to drop everything and drive up into the path of totality–which was extremely cool, as it turns out, despite us having to navigate back roads to get around jammed up highways (at a certain point we were just picking any decent-looking road that seemed to head northwest!).

Poor S24, though, could not miss any more class periods due to the rules of his Senior Project and the day he will miss for a college visit. I think he is a little bummed.

But I am just thinking–Iceland or Spain in August 2026!

We’re thinking Sydney in 2028! Can be a college graduation trip for S24!

Hi @nat3755 I found this UCSD report at https://ir.ucsd.edu/third-week/index.html where if you go to Undergraduates by Major, you can see the spread for Fall 2023 students by College.

I selected Division Jacobs School of Engineering and Department “All” as I was not sure what your S24’s engineering major is, but you can hone in on that major to see what the distribution of undergraduates by residential college.

I hope this helps your S24.

Husband saw that Cuse has the number thirteen recruiting class for football this year
fingers crossed they can finally turn it around!

My daughter and I took a trip to Florida State a week ago and she loved it. She started with 17 schools and has been whittling down the list for months now. Her final two were Ole Miss and Florida State and both offered full tuition scholarships and Honors College. Ole Miss has been in the lead for her for six months now, and she has been torn on who to choose between the final 2 for the past week. She kept saying “I like them both equally”. So here is what she did: She went to a website that virtually flips a coin. Heads was Ole Miss. Tails was FSU. It came up heads. She then said out loud “That is not what I wanted to happen” and for the first time realized she actually did have a favorite between the two. So she ignored the coin flip and picked Florida State. I find that story to be strange and also hilarious, but I swear it is true. Very releived to have this process finally over!

Us too! We only got to 90% and thought it was cool but not nearly the same. We couldn’t make the timing work for travel along with other plans for the month. Hopefully Sydney 2028!

I love this - we are in a similar place with two “finalists” that son can’t seem to decide between. Also seems a little done with this process (what a long year!) and seems uninterested in getting/looking at any more information (I always want more information in making a decision so am having a bit of a hard time with this)!

I’m going to suggest this to him and see if this elicits his true feelings

Good luck to your son in making his final decision. One of her scholarships had to be accepted or rejected by the end of April, so my daughter was starting to feel some pressure in making a decision. Many schools seem to push for a decision by 5-1 it appears.

Not sure if one is better than the other with switching majors . Thank you

What major are they accepted to at each school?

With RD results now out, take our 2023-2024 Decisions survey and let us know how your student fared!

Econ for both schools
Thx

IME it’s more difficult to transfer in to Gies at UIUC whereas Wisconsin sets aside a relatively larger portion of business admits for internal transfers. UIUC also sets aside Gies spots, but a large proportion of those are taken up by DGS students AFAIK.

I would encourage your student to talk to someone at each school and ask what the process is (after reviewing it online) and the success rate.

Here’s the Gies intercollegiate transfer info: Intercollegiate Transfer (ICT) | Gies College of Business | UIUC

And Wisconsin: Current UW–Madison Student Admissions | Wisconsin School of Business

What is DGS & Afaik students? Thx

DGS is the undeclared major that some UIUC students apply to (or are assigned to). AFAIK means as far as I know.
