It might be worth your kid sitting down with an advisor—maybe even over Zoom before break ends—and see if she can do a self-designed business of arts or media business major, though.
I’d recommend a marketing major with photography minor. This way she can market herself. Either that or graphic/digital design and photography as these days they go hand and hand.
This stinks. I am sorry. If it is any consolation very similar in my house. My kids’ grades mean they have to take an academic support 0-credit class next semester. I am hoping it is actually good and not a source of frustration. Merit isn’t tied to GPA here, so that is not a source of stress, thankfully.
They were able to sort of skate through HS with slightly above average grades (with some Cs) in a slightly above average rigorous schedule, and in an engineering degree that doesn’t cut it. They have to repeat a class, and barely skated by another required one. A couple of Bs should have been As. I am not particularly worried about that as much as the course that needs to be repeated, and likely means taking a class over summer. That isn’t a crisis, but I am sure they would like a rest.
In theory that’s a good suggestion, but their business media program focuses on film, not photography. Thank you though.
It is so nice having my kid home!! That is all ![]()
Just to update (and, frankly, so I remember - since I seem particularly scattered at the moment). S25 confirmed that he completed the self-assessment from the academic support center, and that he has a meeting set up for the Thursday after he gets back with one of their counselors. Here’s hoping that they can help him chart a path, and that he’s taking this seriously enough to do what needs to be done this semester.
That’s a big step on his part, especially since the way you describe it, it was essentially self-directed and -completed. This is excellent news.
I sent him the link for the academic success center and told him I expected him to look at their offerings, do the assessment, and set up a meeting. So I told him to do it, but the fact that he actually did, and so quickly, makes me happy. It gives me some hope that he’s taking this seriously and really wants to make a change and tackle the problem.
BTDT with my S23. Its a learning curve for sure.
Well, it’s New Years Eve morning and I just started and submitted C25’s FAFSA form.
Hey, it says 2025 on the calendar, it still counts as on time, right?![]()
Putting this here as I cant post elsewhere. Mothers intuition. Woke up middle of the night. Check life360. My kid is in jail. If I had to guess its a marijuana charge (its illegal in our state). The er nurse in me knows he is safe. Im awaiting the phone call but there’s nothing else I can do. So im headed into work one of my 3 jobs and have to pretend everything is okay. This kid will be the death of me I swear.
Good gravy. I’m hoping for the best possible outcome for you and your son. Any chance he’s there in the lobby, hoping to bail out another friend? ![]()
I think im calm because my oldest has called me from jail before and charges were totally dropped and cleared the next day. I swear my kids arent bad seeds but we live in a smallish town and my kids have enemies. My kid doesnt like drinking so I dont think he was drunk driving. From what i can guess from life 360 im thinking he got pulled over for speeding (its nye with lots of cops-iv been pulled over in this town for a semi rolling stop and then again for going 6 over). In the past he has kept his stash at school in his car so im sure a luxury suv at 2am was an easy target then a whiff was enough.
Physically ill.
Edit: jail website shows him as processed so im focusing on the fact hes alive.
Final edit: He called his dad. He’s safe and fine. Im angry of course. I hate that he uses it.

Ugh. I have a pit in my stomach for you. Glad he’s safe and fine.
You know how they say that little kids will keep you humble? Welp, the big ones do that, too. Giant hug to you, mama.
Short story is he got pulled over for expired registration for lack of emissions test (his dad bought him a new used car this summer and has been in different state and didn’t know he needed one). Not bad driving pull over so he was confused and refused blood test for owi (it was new years eve).
Ohhh. Thank goodness it was just something like that – still not fun, but I guess it could have been so much worse. XO
Im very honest about my kids issues but he honestly doesn’t like to drink (he hates hangovers) and he will not drive under the influence, ever. He’s spent many nights on buddies couches causes he wont drive home or let someone else who has been drinking/etc take him home either.
This was just his attitude and lack of understanding about the process. And with it being our small town and a holiday, it was recipe for disaster.
I’m so glad it was something minor! But geeze, that’s a stressor you didn’t need!
I hope this all gets sorted and cleared up ASAP and so glad that Your kiddo is safe:)
