We ironed it. No issues. Just keep the iron moving.
Clearly, we are the same person. Or at least share some brain cells. Two days before our trip to Greece I was hitting up REI so I could buy another set of packing cubes because THOSE would perfectly compress my clothes so that we could pack for the whole 10 days in one backpack each⦠(NB - we * did * get packed in one backpack each⦠until S25 and I decided to give him a second backpack as a āpersonal itemā so we could each bring a second pair of sneakers.)
Oooohā¦when are you going to Japan? We are, too!
In my smallish NYC apartment, I have a giant pile of packing bags with stuff for S25ās dorm and another pile of things for our Japan trip. My oldest kid said we quickly went from Zen minimalist to an episode of āHoarders.ā
I have five sets of packing cubes. FIVE SETS. And I am so, so impressed that you were able to do one backpack each. We each have a carryon and a personal item. I do the packing for S25 and me, and I do some obnoxious advising and vetoing of what my husband packs. (Seriously, if he tries to bring this shirt again, I will throttle him.)
We are leaving Saturday. I am so, so excited! What about you? When and where are you going?
At least in our experience, Rose does a good job of matching roommates. S19 was in a triple in Deming his freshman year and one of those roommates is now a life long friend.
More milestones checked off yesterday: Elementary school grad walk and senior awards night. D25 loved going back to her elementary school, although only one of her former teachers was still there. The rest have all retired!
July. S25 graduates the last week of June. We are doing the Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka circuit. I lived in Japan for three years after graduating from college, and I canāt wait to show the kids my favorite places!
This is really encouraging! S25 was pretty flexible in his responses, and Iām hopeful that heāll have a roommate who is a good fit. Or at least someone who he can tolerate and who can tolerate him.
Exciting! I lived in Japan for two years after I graduated, and last year we did Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima. It was a blast reliving my glory days in Japan and showing my family around. Hope you have a wonderful trip! Weāre headed to Hokkaido this year, and Iām excited to see a part of Japan Iāve never experienced.
I do that same. But Iāve been good and am waiting until I know what dorm his is in to pull the trigger on most things. I sneak an order in now and then. Not having a job helps keep me more in check for now.
I usually forget what I ordered too! ![]()
You have a couple options
- use a towel over it and turn up the steam on iron
- Hang it by shower for a couple days
- Buy a steamer nothing fancy the cheaper ones will work well
- Downy wrinkle release
I used to do that a bit but now I am poor. Like credit card debt poor. SOOOO, if really needed I stop by our local thrift shops and buy something. Easier to pay $8 in cash for a new scrub set for work than buying new for $60 plus interest.
I think that shopping is way better than feeding a sugar addiction, which is what I do under stress. During covid I realized that the grocery store sells a small bucket of cookie dough
. Yes, you read that right - a bucket. So convenient! Just a couple (or 12) cookies at a time! Even though I donāt like to admit it, I no longer have the metabolism of a 25 year old - and now Iām having to find new, midlife-compatible stress-relieving activities. Yes, I know the obvious answer is exercise, but why is it at my most stressed I just want to do the exact opposite of what I know I need to do?
My kids did not get a stole, cord, etc. for Latin Honors BUT at both colleges Latin Honors were announced during the graduation ceremony as they were handed their degree.
what if you have both?

On another note, I just made what seems to be a gigantic withdrawal from C25ās 529 for the first payment thatās due June 1. Iāve been saving for so long (since C25 was 3 or 4?) it almost feels wrong to take anything out. Wow, itās getting real, yāall.
What we did: We used an iron that puts out steam, set it just barely hot enough to get the steam to work, ironed on the inside of the gown and, most importantly (and as already mentioned), kept the iron movingāthere was one particularly stubborn crease, so we just moved on and came back to it after it had a chance to cool back down.
Costco recently opened one of its experimental ābusiness centersā here, which includes, among other things, more restaurant-sized food items than regular Costcos. (That may seem weird but Alaska is, it turns out, an incredibly high-grossing location for Costcoālocals and folks from rural Alaska shop there, of course, but also tourists outfitting themselves for month-long glamping trips to the middle of nowhere.) One of the things they have there is a 3-kilogram bucket of Nutella. I keep threatening my spouse that Iām going to impulse buy one of them and then oh no, weāll have to eat it! My, my, what a shame.
Yeah, Iām going to wait til the bill comes out in early June so I know exactly how much to withdraw, but thatās when you know itās really real.
⦠asking for a friendā¦
Yāall, I was reading through graduation cards today and just started crying in the middle of the grocery aisle! Iām going to be a mess come Friday at the ceremony!
