Uli? I think that was her name. She was on an All-star season too, I think.
Uli Herzner
Keep in mind that Michael Kors has been in the business for 30+ years and it is only in recent years that the average person on the street would even recognize the name.
Edmund is definitely going to be saved.
I remember running into an Uli dress at a consignment store once…I almost bought it for the PR connection.
Was the Uli dress nice in person?
Sure. Not my style. Drapey. Didn’t look complicated.
Hope someone besides me is watching tonight.
I’m watching!
Watching . . . but not caring. I’m disgusted by the entire Edmond episode. Looking back, I am convinced the whole thing was a set-up: the Tim Gunn “save” hadn’t been used yet, they wanted some drama, so they handed Edmond the scissors and told him to create the worst piece of trash he could imagine. Maybe this was the exception, and not the rule, but the competition was rigged. That’s it for me . . . if it’s not an honest competition, then why bother?
Aw, @dodgersmom, don’t burst my bubble! Kidding - I do sense some rigging, but choose to overlook it.
Well, I still don’t like Ashley’s stuff: don’t like the colors, don’t like the lace, the hats would be better if they were either bigger or smaller – as one of the judges said. I’m disappointed, because Mexico City in the 50s should be a FABULOUS inspiration for some fun, colorful, wild clothes.
I don’t know what the judges are smoking. Edmond’s stuff is great. That “Victorian” dress is maybe a bit much, but I loved his other looks.
Kelly’s stuff was fun, but looked too Forever 21. I agree that it needs some luxury and sophistication. They had that in the 70’s, right?
And Candice… some of the stuff was a bit much… but I still think it’s imaginative, well made and different. If she just deleted one item from each outfit it would be a great collection.
I agree, katliamom; I liked Candice’s and Edmund’s much more than the judges seemed to.
I was surprised at so much criticism of Edmund’s collection. I liked his best, but I love black and white, so maybe that’s why. Ashley’s looked like Easter eggs. Kelly’s was too young. Liked Candice’s and can’t wait to see her finale dress on the model.
Really didn’t like Ashley’s pieces. Horribly fitted and matronly.
I was surprised that Kelly selected those three looks to show. I’m interested to see how some of the others look.
Candice’s would have been much better without the hat. And I didn’t like the matchy matchy floral lining in the red.
Can’t tell yet about Edmund.
I’ve been watching this show forever, and will never understand the judges’ take on “cohesive collection”. I thought that Edmund’s clothes were fabulous; Candice’s hat fits with her whole aesthetic and collection (which I loved) and goodness, Kellie’s were just butt-ugly stuff from Fashion Bug. Ugh. A fanny pack, even. Even if she went “over the top” as Nina suggested, it would still be ugly colors, unimaginative and repetitive.
Oh Ashley. Where’s the MadMen vibe in those mother-of-the-groom clothes. And so tremendously poorly made (zippers? hellloo? ). But of course, she cried.
Candice deserves to win on originality and execution, or Edmund, but I have this terrible feeling they want Kellie to and we’re doomed. Did Tim not throw Candice under the bus with the whole include-the-red advice? Rigged. It’s rigged, I tell you!!
So I agree with all of you. The first look of Ashley’s was so mother of the bride from any department store you can think of and all of her work so poorly executed. The crop top certainly didn’t fit the model and that hideous zipper in the middle of the front of the skirt. Kelly’s looked like you could get in Forever 21 or any teenage-type store in the mall. So I liked Edmund’s black & white collection although the dress the judges hated was a bit too much Victorian-type costume. I actually liked the short dress that he made in a day the best. I liked Candace’s and didn’t think the hat was too much for that dress. I thought the judges were overly harsh in their criticism of her styling. I hated Kelly’s styling actually. I thought Ashley just was all about wanting to use the flower crowns and be matchy/matchy with the pastel laces. I thought the purple lace was pretty but I wouldn’t personally want to wear and be so exposed and I am nowhere near being plus sized… cannot imagine who would want to wear that.
Just wanted to join the chorus here – I liked Edmund’s and Candice’s the best – I certainly thought Edmund’s pieces were cohesive, so I really don’t know what the judges were talking about. Agree that Ashley’s were horrible and Kelley looked very youth and not Fashion Week.
Yeah, don’t understand all the negativity towards Edmund. Do you think he will create a whole new look in 48 hours?
I also liked Edmund’s and Candice’s by far over the others.
Don’t get the see through on the lace at all. I dont want my undies showing. Admittedly I’m in my 60s and not slender. But even in my 20s and with the figure for it, I wouldn’t have wanted my undies showing.
My list of of PR grievances (not Festivus yet, but I’m feeling aggrieved):
- Telling the designers to revamp their collections two days before the Fashion Week show is beyond absurd, but I suppose the goal is to create angst and drama, not offer useful critiques.
- I truly don't know what is meant by a "cohesive" collection, and I don't think the judges do either--they just like to throw around the term when they have nothing else to say. Besides, how can anyone tell how cohesive a collection of ten pieces will be when they've only seen three, one of which was whipped up at the last minute?
- Calling a collection too costume-y makes no sense to me when, to my admittedly unsophisticated eyes, pretty much everything on the Fashion Week runways looks like a costume, as opposed to clothing a real human could/would wear.
- Ashley can't design and can't sew. She was clearly cast to make Project Runway look plus-size friendly, and then they found themselves stuck with her for fear the show would appear anti-plus-size. Hence the lack of criticism for her hideous outfits (the judges only critiqued her technique)--the other contestants must have thought they were hallucinating as they heard their design work ripped apart while Ashley's was left unscathed.
- Springfield isn't Boston. Not nearby, not similar.
Edited to add that I just saw this piece about the JustFab folks:

Stay classy, PR!
Having watched fashion shows on TV in the past (I still remember a gown made of real feathers) I think Candice’s collection is the best. Over the top but everything can be toned down pretty much for actually wear. You could lose the hat and gloves or wear a plain top with the red pants for actual normal wear. But I’d LOVE to see her show for the drama. I think the judges were pretty unfair to her–she had some imagination and impeccable work.
Her Spanish flamenco dress (which got dinged for being a bit costume-like) has already been ordered to wear down the red carpet on the same show on which it was criticized . Christian Serrano was always over the top and he’s probably the most successful of the designers on the show. And I don’t know the designer that Nina compared her collection to but that was probably fairly high praise actually–if he’s good then she is too.
Liked Edmund’s collection but it did lack some sexy vibes and color that his best work had. Looked great but too safe.
He should turn that paper wedding dress into real fabric–that was really pretty.
No idea where Kelly spent 9K on clothes. And I think Zak was wrong in telling her to add more sparkle. It just made it look sort of cheap. Wasn’t the blue sequin top and shiny shorts enough? Started to look like she was designing for the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders (where that would be more appropriate). The dress she was going to show reminded me of Twiggy from the 60’s. She definitely designs for young people which is fine but not where the fashion week crowd hangs out. And while I like fanny packs they don’t seem very fashion forward.
Ashley was awful as usual. What can the judges criticize after telling you that nothing actually fits and you haven’t put the zippers in right? They talked about the flowers. And then she cried. Her collection WAS cohesive–it was all awful.
Plus sized all over must be cringing. Finally a designer who WANTS to dress bigger women but can’t sew, dresses models in little kid prints or old lady lace, uses a QUILTED fabric (died pink no less) to add MORE bulk (lets wrap you up in the bedspread!), and THEN sends the model down the runway with her bra showing (sure the model thought THAT was a great look!) She had how many weeks to figure out she needed something under a lace top? And I don’t know about you but most bigger gals don’t wear crop tops (nobody does much no matter their size). Ugghh–she should’ve gone home long ago.
Prediction–Candice will win, Edmund becomes a successful second place, Kelly will be hired at H&M or Forever 21, Ashley will sink into oblivion.
