I thought the winning look was awful. IMO it’s neither practical, nor provocative while the judges thought it was both. Top (skimpy) and bottom (full coverage +) looked so unbalanced. . . and the judges thought Laurie’s bottom was “very big.”
Ashley’s design was my favorite.
I absolutely feel that Ashley’s design should have won! It was the prettiest and actually looked wearable. I didn’t think the winning bra looked all that well made; the detail in the center looked skewed. I didn’t like this challenge at all. The only interesting part of it was seeing who would rise to the challenge.
I also had a lot of sympathy for the models wearing some of those items!
I watched the whole episode, and agree about Ashley’s design. Not a fan of the guy who does “matronly”.
Who wears black stringy bras under their clothes? Would Nina? And I want a video of women trying to get Swampmil’s thing on, at all. What a dismal challenge. But Blake’s truly was awful in most every way. This is when all those “safe in the middle” designers start going home.
And how miserable, another non-traditional challenge next week. Bring back the real people challenges, I love those! I am betting we are left with Swampmil, Ashley, the goth girl, and some wild card person who shines under pressure. Not the matronly guy, not Marline.
It was pretty clear that Swampnil wouldn’t win, because mass producing a bra with all those straps would be too expensive. I was also trying to figure out how to put it on – and perhaps more relevant for a “wedding bra,” how difficult it would be to take off.
I was shocked Marlene won. I thought she would be on the bottom. And I didn’t think they’d kick Blake out so soon, either – he’s great TV, while the guy who stayed in isn’t as good.
I shuttered every time one of the judges touched the garments while the models just stood there.
I don’t think I’ve ever owned sexy lingerie. I don’t have separate undergarments for day wear and night time. Guess I’m not a customer for Heidi either.
Here’s the winner, available for $65 (bra) and $30 (bottom). $30 for a pair of panties – I don’t think so. http://www.heidiklumintimates.com/store/shop/featured/project-runway-winning-style.html
Can you say … butt cheeks???
Wow! I bet those models are like “What’s it gonna be next week? Three strategically-placed band-aids!!!” And while I appreciate the unconventional challenges (coming in next week’s episode) because it forces the designers to actually design something, and not just sew something, has this group had the LEAST number of visits to Mood?
I just watched it, and I must say, the judging this season has been HORRIBLE!!! What the hell are they thinking!!!
Ashley totally shouldve won that challenge, and while I am no fan of Blake, he should not have been sent home. I actually thought Tim would save him. Jake shouldve been sent home.
Ashley’s was by far the best. Marlene’s bra looked misaligned to me and I didn’t think it was flattering to the model’s chest. But hey, what do I know? I hate bras!
Blake was great TV. If this was Top Chef, they’d find a way to bring him back. The other worst, jake?, lacks a TV persona.
I agree, I thought Marlene’s was awful. It didn’t fit the model well and looked uncomfortable. Blake’s was truly awful, no design and poorly constructed. Jake’s panties were terrible and although I like the polka dot, it didn’t see especially creative. I did like Ashley’s and while Swapnil’s was a showstopper, it looked like it was a luxury design for Victoria’s Secret runway show. I missed the first 15 minutes so I didn’t hear the details of the challenge but with previous challenges like this, it has to something that can be produced to sell…so he missed the boat on that one.
@fireandrain 's link above - The mass produced product does follow the design concept of Marlene’s design but with definite modifications, especially on the bottoms. They are cut much higher and probably look a lot more flattering and less bottom heavy than the original design.
I, too, thought Ashley’s design was best. I did not like Swampnil’s and did not get the gushing over it.
So that’s a skirt thong…who knew?
That was a difficult challenge. Had any of them designed bras and panties in the past? It didn’t appear so.
The addition of the “slumber party” was corny.
Seeing this thread made me realize I fell asleep before the end of the episode last night. H didn’t want to watch it, so I climbed in bed to watch. I thought Blake’s was truly awful, but am surprised they sent him home. Maybe he’ll be a Tim Gunn save?
College q, that’s why I tape shows.
Someone correct me, but doesn’t Tim have to use his lucky card ASAP? What would be cool would be a separate night where some booted contestants called back to compete with the remaining 4 champs. Again, an idea from Top Chef.
Oh, it was being recorded. It’s also available online. So at lunch I watched the ending - I was awake until the commercial break before the results. But the fact that I hadn’t seen the winner/loser didn’t resonate until I saw this thread.
I cannot believe that Ashley didn’t win! Nor can I believe that Marlene won! It was fun too see them try something different but, wow, do I disagree with the winner. Blake’s was just awful, so I do agree with that part of the judging.
I think Tim will save Blake…he adds so much to the personality of the season. I agree with the above critiques of the undergarments, I was annoyed by the guest judge, loved Nina’s dress and Zack was wearing too much lip color.
If this season doesn’t turn it up a notch, I think Heidi will lose some of her faithful followers.
I haven’t gotten the impression that Tim likes Blake AT ALL. I would be absolutely shocked if Tim saves him!
I don’t think that Tim would save Blake, for the reason that his technical skills aren’t there. He is often hand-stitching things rather than using the machines, and I don’t think that Tim could save him just for his personality.
This season definitely doesn’t have the appeal that last season did. I wish they wouldn’t “cast” their participants, and choose the most talented instead.
