Just watched the DVRd finale… and so happy with the result. Going into the show, I really thought they’d go for Ayana, whose looks are gorgeous and original.
But like others I was blown away by Kentaro… and as much as much as I loved a couple of Ayana’s looks, I also DISliked the first three.
Yup, agree this was among the better Project Runway seasons. The looks were good and producers kept drama to a minimum – which made up for the boring guest judges. I’ve almost forgiven PR for Ashley’s win.
I loved Brandon but knew he would not win based on the show edits the last few shows showing him so confident. Remember, he was SO not confident at the beginning.
I thought Margarita should get the most improved and best collection to start the runway show award. Her music and styling were stand alone.
Ayana’s last dress (and on that model who is OUTSTANDING) was the best thing seen all season on the show.
and most importantly…
It makes NO sense to me that JCP is the store that is going to represent Project Runway designs in general. PR has NEVER been for the average woman. Never for the department store woman. NEVER meant to be off the rack stuff. The product placement could be the end of this beloved show!
I also liked Brandon, but using the same textile for all of his runway pieces was such a miscalculation. I can’t even imagine how any of his pieces could be reinterpreted for JCP.
That gorgeous dress by Ayana was enhanced by the treatment she did with the headwrap. And I agree that model is lovely. I thought Ayana’s first few looks were very unflattering, though, and I didn’t like the ruffly dresses and many of her fabrics.
Product placement – How did you like Heidi having Zac show the camera his Heidi Klum underwear?!
^^Haha - that was SO un-Zach - showing off his underwear!
And Kentaro’s father falling - OMG - I can’t believe they showed that!!
ALSO, Heidi’s purple dress…cut to her navel with lots of spillage…so awkward on the same stage as Ayana’s modest looks! Heidi can be a hoot but sometimes her outfit choices…do NOT resemble good fashion!
Oh Heidi’s “taste level” is consistently execrable. She looks dreadful on the red carpet pretty much all the time, and it always kills me to see such a gorgekous woman dressed so badly. So it’s pretty ironic that she’s judging the designers’ work–they must hate that. And I’ve noticed that whenever there’s a clear disagreement among the judges about which design should win an episode, Heidi’s opinion always prevails. But I guess that’s the perk of being an Executive Producer.
Ugh, we hated Kentaro’s collection, from the dismal depressing music to the boring colors and the total lack of a finale -worthy piece. As was said earlier in the season, if you need explanations about the theme of a shirt, matbe it’s just bad design.
Brandon was clearly being edited for a loss. He never strayed from his same basic “blew down the street and landed on me” look and that flamingo print was awful. Margarita, bless her heart, went big and resorty and I loved the sass, but the cabana long dress (pantsuit?) was ugly. And the fringy pink stuff was a No.
We wanted Ayana, with all her growth and style, to win. But those prairie dresses…I love the headscarfs and the pants ensembles, but the dresses…(except the stunner, of course)
I think Lyris is the real winner. She’s gonna be a busy model. Could make a burlap bag look great!
I th k the thin model with the great smile is the winner. She wore Ayana’s finale dress. She seemed to be in the winning design most often–Kentaro, Brandon. Lyris is also sassy.
Ayana had to rush thru her dresses, with the water damage to her place. I think her first few outfits could have been better with more time.
Meisha was the model in Ayana’s final dress. She is the one who spoke Japanese. They seemed to feature her and Lyris a lot. I thought they were both great.
Fun facts about Meisha! She was a D1 track athlete at Harvard. Has a BS Mechanical Engineering and took some design and engineering classes at MIT. Worked at IBM for a summer. She models, acts, runs, is brilliant, fluent in Japanese… She’s definitely defies the stereotypes most people have for models.
