Project Runway 2017

I thought this was the most consistent Fashion Week of all the seasons I have watched the show. I really liked Margarita’s collection and I didn’t expect to. Each collection was strong and so different, but no granny panties and/or totally unwearable fashion.

I expected the 2 in the top - wasn’t sure who’d win.

Brandon shot himself in the foot with the saminess of the color palette - needed some pops of color - too coordinated.

I think they were all strong and so different and unique. I loved Kantaro’s collection, dead cat music and all. Yes, Brandon was innovative, but his stuff just all ran together. I thought the weakest was Ayana. I love a “grout-fit”-as my teens say- but the palette was just so drab, other than that lovely white gown at the end. Margarita’s showed better than I expected…very lovely. An interesting and entertaining season. Must be time for Top Chef!

I enjoyed the collections. I like Brandon but I agreed his collection just ran together. I didn’t think Margarita should win but I hope she gets some good job offers from in. Ayana has a market and hopefully she can help fill it. Kantaro was just too cute. I think he and Brandon could open a brand together and do well.

I’m so happy! I thought for a minute, as did Margarita, that she might win because her collection was certainly the most ‘JC Penney’. I only liked Ayana’s final dress and thought the other stuff looked very matronly. The fabric looked polyester and didn’t show well. Brandon had 10 identical outfits. Just loved Kentaro. I thought he’d start with the peach dresses, go to black, then white, then the red, but it worked out his way too.

I was so thankful that the dreadful ‘teaser’ outfits from the spoilers were not seen on the runway. The stretchy denim, the peach thing with the socks? I did love that Ayana ended with a traditional ‘wedding’ type dress, a big statement. This year they didn’t have many ball gowns in the challenges so I’m glad Ayana and Kentaro had some.

I was stunned by the result. Kentaro’s designs were all over the place, with no unifying theme or concept, and they ranged from boring to incredibly fugly. I didn’t see any originality in his work. It was the kind of stuff published in magazines like Vogue, but never worn by an actual person. But I guess that’s what the judges were going for, to help maintain the fiction that Project Runway is relevant in the world of fashion. Did I hear correctly that some of the winner’s designs will be sold by JC Penney? I can’t think of one of Kentaro’s pieces that would make sense in that store. And oh yes, I have to add that the original dirge that accompanied his runway show was unbearable.

I thought Brandon’s collection was fashion for depressives–everything so blah, washed out and droopy, He should stick with his dopey menswear. I never liked his stuff and was glad to see that the message the producers had conveyed all season (that he was the anointed one) was largely misdirection.

Ayana’s work was such a mixed bag, some lovely items, and great styling in every case, but some really bad pieces.

I surprised myself by liking Margarita’s collection the most–it was fun and original and much of it was quite wearable by a normal human woman, which is the category I put myself in.

I agree with @MommaJ on all points. I was really shocked that the judges liked Kentaro’s stuff as much as they did. I really thought they were going to shoot him down in the critiques. Brandon was too overconfident. He was sure he was going to win and then he cried when he lost. Ayana’s final gown was really amazing but her other dresses looked like Little House on the Prairie to me. Margarita really surprised me and as much as I didn’t care for her, I would have liked to see her win. (And how in the heck did her parents manage to get a flight out of PR the day after the hurricane?!!) And poor Kentaro’s father, falling off the stage like that! He handled it well, though.

From the previews of the reunion show, it looks like the twins are going to take center stage again. Ugh.

I’m with @twoinanddone on everything. I thought it was no contest - Kentaro won hands down. Funny how many of us completely disagree! And of course, I’ve admitted to having no fashion sense, so there is an asterisk to my opinion  . His collection (except for the one he made the night before) was perfect and many of the pieces were beautiful and fit beautifully as well. I was very surprised and I think the judges were too. Honestly, I think he won by default because his collection was solid (I didn’t see anything I thought was ugly! But I did in the other collections). And if you watched the “other seasons rewind” prior to the finale, you could see that his was the kind of collection (I thought) that typically wins. (I HATED Gretchen & Ashley’s clothing from previous seasons, though). I do agree that the piano music was awful.

Although Ayana’s final gown was the most beautiful thing on the runway, it wouldn’t be sold at JC Penney (though it’s unfortunate that that is the standard they are aiming for with this show now), and some of her things (especially the early pieces) were downright ugly. She also had some really poor fit issues on a couple of her models. And I repeat my objections to the flowery, ruffly dresses!

I loved Margarita’s colorful collection, and agree, very JC Penney (but maybe in the 70s, not even the 80s as was her intention).

Brandon was overconfident, I agree, and he just showed no growth after about the mid-point of the season. Just too much of the same thing; he should have listened to his girlfriend on that print. I was sad because I wanted to like his collection; his structure of clothing was so interesting & different in general.

And yes, he & Kentaro should set up a shop - they’d make a killing!

right before the show, they had a small segment on past winners like NinaReilly just menioned. I still cant believe Ashley won a year or two ago! I think it was all trying to be PC.

last night:: i liked margaritas outfits. they were colorful pretty and wearable. But - not high end fashion. I was disappointed in Brandons’ pieces. It looked like stuff I’d make for my dolls with pillow cases. They all looked alike in young girl colors. Oh well- he’s a good guy and i think will do well. Kentaro had the high-end interesting look; glad he won.

thoughts on the models & plus size models: its seems like the models are very thin- or plus size. No average size 8 or 10 models. It’s black or white; no gray. wonder why?

I think they got it right this time. I loved Ayana’s collection. My daughters have a lot of Muslim friends who cover and they would definitely rock those outfits. I’m so glad Brandon didn’t win. They really did him a disservice by basically not criticizing anything he did all season which is why he thought he would win. As I figured , when given time Kentaro produces.

I thought they got it right this time too, but I was very impressed with all four collections. They totally represented the designers’ individual focuses. I knew Brandon wasn’t going to win because they’ve loved on him all season; plus, I thought his collection was too much the same. I was hoping after Tim’s home visit that Brandon would throw in some brighter colors.

Ayana’s last dress was a stunner, one of the best I’ve ever seen on the show.

Plus size or not, all of the models were 5’10" or taller. I think they need to throw in some short ones, too.

Looking at the winners from this year, wth were they thinking crowning Ashley the winner. Her clothes were awful!

They kept saying this was the first time they’d had plus sized models, but Ashley had them in the pink/purple extravaganza two years ago.

I watched it again, and it is not that the designer’s clothes are going to be sold at Penney’s, but that he will be consulted on a line of clothing. Big difference.

Kentaro had a commercial blurb just after he won saying some of his clothes would be available on JCPenny.com right after the show. I looked and they were there. I’m not too impressed and that’s an understatement.

OMG, so cheap and nasty looking on the whole (and I do shop for basic tops for work at JCP - at least I did before they closed down the stores in my town and all the nearby towns a few months back)

Maybe not winning was winning in this case

I’m rewatched the finale. The show the softer, more helpful side of margarita. I think someone will offer her a good job. I definitely think this season, minus the twins, was a nicer group,of people than in some years. I think a few could have won against Ashley and some others.

They were nice. The twins seemed to have been kept in just to introduce drama which was a bit unfair on them. I’m not sure I can bring myself to watch the reunion next week.

The judges did such a disservice to Brandon, at least based on the show was edited. He was the only designer who didn’t evolve throughout the course of the show. He was a one trick pony for the entire season and the judges praised him for it every time. So obviously he did what worked for him the entire show. They never pushed him in the way they pushed Kentaro. I did feel bad seeing him cry at the end. That being said…

WOOOO HOOO!! KENTARO!

I loved his collection. It was dynamic and emotional. It told a story and it looked like an art showcase. It truly blew me away. It was not commercial, but I appreciated that. I also appreciated that he wasn’t concerned with winning as much as he was concerned about putting forth something he was proud of and loved. It was art for art’s sake.Oh and he is absolutely adorable and really lovable. I was very happy for him

Also, maybe I missed it, but where was Tim Gunn? He didn’t congratulate Kentaro or say goodbye to any of the eliminated designers.

Yawwwwwwnnnnn! With a few exceptions: Kentaro’s opening dress and Ayana’s gown, I was mostly bored. I suppose the “right” designer won. And I too feel the judges were part of Brandon not winning - he never was provoked to do something other than what he had Ben doing. Too bad really.

And yeah, where WAS Tim Gunn during the congratulatory moments? Hmmmm
