I don’t mind the “out there” stuff - right up until they complain that they never do X and therefore had a disadvantage. Like the wacky guy with cartoon stuff. Don’t say you’re up for the challenge and then say it’s outside your comfort zone. Duh. Hate the ones in previous seasons that were “I only use jersey knits, etc”. The show is in 16th year - you should know by now what to expect and what to prepare for.
Not a fan of sack-like shapes, but as @JustaMom said, I don’t have to like all the designs. Just don’t want to hear them complain when challenges don’t fit into their high concept clothing aesthetic.
(Going now to try and figure out weird way a dress pattern has me making buttonholes. Sigh)
No worries! We live several states away, and I’ve met them only once. They were on a reality show called “Twinning” a couple of summers ago and, like cgpm59, I wonder how one will react when the other is eliminated.
I just watched the selection preview on Comcast On Demand. There are a few that really liked and a couple that I was confused by, but it should be fun. Looks like there will be a social thread shown just before the 8/17 airing of episode 1. Can’t wait!
I love this show. I watched the preview and like others there were a few I liked, a few that confused me but will be interested in seeing more, and a few that I just disliked their designs.
@SplashMom, the twins will be interesting contestants. The one twin that did the intricate hand-sewn leather jackets, those were beautiful but you wonder with the time constraints they have on the show, whether all that hand work is going to be feasible. Of course, if they do well, I can see the producers saying at the end “oh, we can’t eliminate one of you now, so we’ll just have five contestants showing at Fashion Week.”
I saw a preview online somewhere of little bits from the entire season. You know these highlight videos are heavily edited, but it clearly looks like there’s some major cheating going on and Tim Gunn is giving somebody the what-for.
I did watch the preview and I DID like several of the contestants - especially the first several they showed. Happy to get back to the PR weekly routine!
What do you all think of the model situation this year? The models are all different shapes and sizes, and I think they will rotate so each designer has to dress each “type”. Apparently some of the designers weren’t too thrilled about this according to an interview Heidi gave to People magazine.
My favorite going in did a pretty (well, really really) awful job and almost went home. Sure hope going forward that that designer lives up to what brought them into the show! (Which I loved loved loved).
I’m over the moon about the many shapes and sizes of the models this year. I know that Tim Gunn had a hand in that - he may even have issued an ultimatum – he is a very serious supporter of all sizes and shapes – last season he was interviewed about the “one size” models and he was very clear about his feelings and about the different contestants that don’t design/dress for the “real woman” – so bravo to PR for that!
Overall I thought there were some hits (winning look, I’m talking to you!) and misses (um, the gray dress with the awful crochet down the tush…(Batani) that would be you!) – I’m sorry to say, but I’m already over the twins. And while I didn’t care for the look that was eliminated, I think the gray dress was absolutely terrible, right down to the hole in the back – but like the judges, I’d like to see more from Batani so I’m cool with her save.
I loved Batani’s looks in the tryouts and her own personal style. She was definitely my favorite going in. I was so disappointed in her grey dress - so completely the opposite of her “aesthetic”. Boring and bland as opposed to vibrant and exciting. But I am glad she survived and hope she lives up to what I was expecting.
Zac Posen made several positive comments about this year’s models that I found so refreshing. I’ve never found him to be as catty as some judges (Michael Kors, for example) but I didn’t expect him to be so supportive and encouraging about the inclusion of “real” women on the runway.
I’ll be interested to see what the fashion instructor does. She was kind of “I teach…I got this”. Does anyone remember a few seasons ago when there was a woman who was a teacher at a fashion school? She walked off several weeks in as I remember.
