Project Runway Season 15!

^^Yes! I LOVED Lawrence’s dress - safe? Much more than that!

I felt the same way about Erin’s ruffle dress - that girl has received LOTS of “passes” IMO. Here’s what I think. She’s quirky and her designs are the same - quirky and fun. She is good at that. She is ONLY good at that. I one trick pony so to speak which may work out ok for her later when she does a line of clothes where that is the signature look. But one-tricks should not be in the finale of PR!

My D said that Heidi said, “one or more of you will go tonight”. I did not hear that. So I was shocked when Dexter went too - and yep, I thought it was awful they did that to him - he had just cried a sigh of relief.

Right now if I had to pick a winner I’d go with Lawrence. Here stuff always looks well made and as they say, “expensive”.

Yes, I heard Heidi say “one or more” would be out, but later, at the time of elimination, she said “one of you will be in and one of you will be out” or whatever she always says. Oh well, not sad to see Dexter go.

The “one or more of you will be out” was a pretty definitive signal that two were going home. Based on that, and the fact that they needed an additional elimination because Tim had used his save, made me sure that both Nathalia and Dexter were going home. It would have been a supreme fake-out if Dexter had been safe. I was completely fine with the result; Dexter’s outfit was revolting.

I agree that Erin’s was not deserving of the top 3 status. However, it did add a bit to the suspense since it was plausible that Erin’s COULD have been in the bottom. If Laurence’s had been in the top and bottom six, it would have been pretty clear she was in the top, not bottom. This is a tv show, after all. It makes sense that the decision as to who should be third and who should be fourth would be influenced by the narrative arc of the episode.

I liked Rik’s look the best but I guess Erin’s was more avant-garde. Cornelius’s dress was too weird for me. Hope to see Laurence really break out next challenge.

Cornelius’ dress was too weird for me, too. I liked Erin’s and I really hope Laurence amps it up next week. I’m tired of her black stuff, and I love black.

I liked Rik’s dress the most and wasn’t crazy about Erin’s look at all. I would have sent Cornelius home tonight.

So what can you say about Cornelius’s dress? An ugly silhouette with ugly tubes attached. As hideous as the sci-fi tubing was, it was the garment the tubing was attached to that should have sent him home. Take away the tubes and what’s left? Just a really ugly dress.

Anyone else notice that whatever comments the judges had about Roberi’s dress were cut from the final edit? Too bad, 'cause I thought his was one of the best tonight, and really didn’t get the attention it deserved.

As soon as I saw it was another “unconventional material” challenge, I handed the t.v.remote to hubby so he could watch football. Who got sent home?

Mah Jing

Thanks @psychmom >:P

Cornelius was lucky that he sews better than Mah Jing.
Did Mah Jing ever make anything that didn’t use denim?

A friend asked me, “why didn’t Mah-Jing cry when he was eliminated? He cried every other time.” - I reminded her the top 6 all show at fashion week (the decoys) - so he’s delighted to just be in the top 6…he’ll be showing a collection at fashion week!

@gouf78 - no, nothing but denim that I can recall. It’s his “signature” fabric.

IMO too many “signature” items this season - Erin = yellow and oversized coats, Laurance = black and shoulders, Mah-Jing = denim…I really miss the days when we really didn’t have any expectations of who would send what down the runway. The element of surprise. Oh, and when will “fashion” get rid of those damned ginormous zippers showing everywhere? Ugh.

That said…PR Jr. heading towards us on 12/12 I think it said! Love those Jr. designers.

I am losing my patience with Erin’s constant parade of bright yellow clothing. I also really liked Rik’s dress, but wish it was more avant-garde…it makes me miss the days of Christian Siriano!

I am enjoying the talent of this season’s cast, but with there was a wee bit more drama.

I don’t mind contestants with “signature” looks, so long as they are innovative and compelling. (Thinking of Mondo’s stunning use of patterns, for example.) I feel the problem with this season’s designers is that they’re just not terribly talented. Not one of them is wowing me on a consistent basis. I’ve come to believe that there aren’t that many exceptional designers in the world (it’s a rare ability), maybe a handful coming along each year, and since not all of them are interested in reality television, it’s hard to fill all the slots each season. (As opposed to the singing competitions on TV–there seems to be an unlimited supply of decent talent for those.) The early years of the show had something of a backlog of undiscovered designers to mine, but now the pickings are slim. Maybe the show should go on hiatus for a few years to allow a new crop of talented young’uns to come along.

Nobody really steps out of their “comfort zone”. Even during an avant garde challenge.

In past seasons this challenge was a full out weirdo but hopefully artsy piece. Really different fabrics. Head pieces.

Unbelievably Erin keeps getting lauded for “bright color” but it’s ALWAYS yellow! There ARE other colors besides yellow and pink (which she ends up ditching before runway) Hopefully her model lived through the chicken wire and didn’t sue. Has she made anything that actually fits the body? Not big, bulky, flowing etc? Anything without applique except the dress with the blue ruffle? “Loved the silk pants” isn’t exactly new.

Most of the designs are boring. Wearable but not exactly “runway worthy”. Rik and Roberi make pretty commercial clothes. Not sure that’s the point of the program. Same with Laurence. All of them did black, bronze, silver. Not exactly “avant garde”

Surprisingly I think Cornelius is the most innovative. Maybe because he’s young and doesn’t see every pitfall coming.
He’s had some great saves for himself. At least you couldn’t argue that the tube dress was less boring the other submissions. He is the one who takes in the critique and tries to work things out often to success.
And so does Erin (but she always starts with the same familiar materials and same ideas).

I think adding the unconventional element hurt the challenge. I would have loved to have seen what they could do without limits on fabric - and if they had still been given 2 days. If nothing else it would have truly shown talent. Agree that in past avant garde and couture gave up some great larger than life design. Not so much lately.

Perhaps it’s the way they are portraying him and the shots they are giving him but Cornelius annoys me to no end. Doesn’t seem like a very nice guy. I thought his dress was awful in every way.

I loved Rik’s dress - it was beautifully fit. BUT avant garde? Not sure. I felt Erin deserved the win based on her competition. I would like to see her do something a little more wearable. Lawrence is really special - but sure seems a little reserved/private/something!

“but sure seems a little reserved/private/something!” She’s very un-reality TV. In other words, a woman who has class and dignity

^^^ Yeah, that kind of sums it up! I love her - and her work.

I believe the juniors start on 12/22, the week after this season’s finale. I’m glad there’s not a gap in between.
