Purdue Class of 2028 Official Thread

Just curious. How do you know that?

Tho it is my theory it is backed up by my observation on cc and reddit. Not many people are talking about getting in for cs major. Until a few days back it was same for fye. But many fye applicants got their decisons on the same day together later. So cs wave is still left

Well I like your theory MUCH better! Thx

This line of reasoning makes sense to me, even though it’s not what I’d like it to be.

Regarding @Abc6 your theory, my hypothesis: Purdue fills almost all of it’s CS admits via EA. They leave little to nothing for RD, which is why we only see a trickle here and there about CS admits post-EA. As we know, Reddit and CC is just a microcosm of the overall numbers.

Of course, if my line of thinking is on the right track, a better way for Purdue to take is to Waitlist all remaining CS applicants like how UMass had done, I believe starting this year. Again, not a best situation for us, but at least we know to look for other options right from when waitlisted.

Agreed on the sample size thing. But about ea, i myslef applied ea and was deferred. As far as i saw, they deferred many many potential cs applicants while admitting applicants for other less popular majors with significantly lower stats.

And moreover, what benefit do they have in favoring ea over rd. If it was ed it was understandable to protect yield, but it’s not!

True, keep in mind though that the FYE pool is much larger than CS. Per my understanding, FYE, will include Comp E, Mech, etc
so a much larger pool, hence the flexibility to do more admits from EA deferred pool.

Good point and I agree. However, I don’t believe there’s a way for them to say CS only EA where as all others we take RD into account. They do want to hedge their admits from RD pool for CS, hence I think it’s better to say majority of admits from EA.

Makes sense. But I would still like to believe they are done with their fye wave and cs wave is still left🙃.

This is what Purdue says about EA:

If you’re a high school student, you should apply early in your senior year; admission will be much more competitive if you apply later. The freshman application is available beginning August 1.

To meet a deadline, your application must be complete, which means we have received all required material. See Completing the Application, below.

NOVEMBER 1: Early Action Application Deadline

  • Students who meet the Early Action deadline will have an admission decision on January 15.
  • Application deadline to be considered for Purdue’s full range of scholarships and the John Martinson Honors College.
  • Priority application deadline for biomedical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, engineering (first-year), flight (professional flight technology), mechanical engineering, motorsports engineering, nursing, and veterinary nursing. Priority means we will continue accepting applications after this date only if space allows — if applying for one of these programs after November 1, check the closed programs page first.

We are doing all the reasoning for admissions committee decisions. They should hire us😂

What if we applied ea and were deferred? Are we still considered only if space allows or given full consideration??

Goes back to @Violin99 's point:

I don’t have insight on that specifically but Purdue has been deferring more applicants the last two cycles than in years past, so don’t give up hope.

It seems that the “closed programs” page has not been updated for some time

Nothing has been listed as “closed” for incoming freshman: Closed Programs - Undergraduate Admissions - Purdue University

That’s a releif

Our result is Deffered since Jan, have not seen any movement. Is that a sign of rejection?

Same here

Since being EA deferred for CS (AI 2nd choice), I haven’t been as closely paying attention, but I don’t think I’ve seen as much discussion on students being accepted/offered to their 2nd choice major in these latest waves. Seems like I saw that more during the EA acceptances. Has anyone who’s been paying more attention seen that as well, or have there also been a number of 2nd choice offers the last few weeks that I missed?
