Purdue University Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

What did you select on “Grading scale” and “Schedule” tab on “Courses & Grades” page? Selection needs to be based on what your school’s grading scale is. If you select Grading scale as 1-100 then you will be able to enter grades

That’s a super question! Just a total guess, but I’m going to say that the Honors Questions, (which were pretty long) are only reviewed by Honors, and the General ?'s are just by the General Adcom. Total guess! But it would definitely be a lot more work. Let me know if you figure it out!

Our counselor has not started ANYTHING! I remember this for my son too. He did get into all his schools and I vaguely seeing “Never started” on his application. Fingers crossed everyone pulls through for our kids.

Ditto here for my daughter. One got hers in (or it says “started”) and one did not begin. The counselor report I don’t believe EVER got submitted for my son and also says “Not Started”. I don’t know if that is accurate though because my son DID get in 4 years ago, lol. So frustrating to have all of this out of our hands. I asked my daughter to ask but she said she already did twice. What to do. Just hope I guess!

Thank you for your reply. My D25’s counselor just submitted her LOR in the common app on Oct 18. She is quite on top of things usually but probably swamped because of some kids’ UK apps due on Oct 15.

Just popping on to this thread to discuss the housing situation at Purdue since it’s been in the news again recently.

Freshman are guaranteed university housing if they fill out their housing application by May 5th.

The university prioritizes dorms for freshmen. So, if you want to stay in the dorm for sophomore year, the process this year is students enter a lottery. If they get a lottery number, then they select their housing option. They are only giving out enough lottery numbers as they have housing for upperclassmen. On campus housing is NOT guaranteed after freshman year. So, if your student wants a schools where they can live in a dorm after freshman year, Purdue is not for them.

Off campus housing leases are typically signed in Oct/Nov for the FOLLOWING year so freshman need to get moving fairly quickly if they don’t get a lottery number or they know they want to move off campus.

Some notes about “off campus” apartments:
Some apartments that are off campus are actually closer to the academic building than some of the dorms, so it’s not an automatic that a student will be far from campus.

There are lots of new shiny buildings with all the luxury bells and whistles - they are expensive! Don’t let your student con you into thinking that’s all that’s available ; ). There are many older apartments in the same area as the new builds that are much more affordable. They are pretty bare bones, old school college apartments but they exist and there are many of them.

There are also a number of apartment complexes further from campus that are accessible by bus. The bus is typically reliable and very safe. Some of the apartment complexes further from campus are clustered together so there is a high population of Purdue students.

Note - Purdue limits full meal plan to on campus students only. There are limited packages for off campus students but your student will need to learn to cook (a good life skill IMO).

We saved money when my D moved off campus.

Hi, I am a hopeful Purdue student and I think my essays are good but I’m a little worried about my GPA and ACT. My GPA is a 3.3 unweighted and 3.7 weighted with a 30 ACT. I have 13 AP’s with a good bit of extracurriculars. Of my best ones I have done two research projects, Science Olympiad and am a national finalist for a AI and data science paper. I have also been part of First Robotics for 4 years(all of highschool). I have co-founded a non-profit and have a dance diploma. If I am applying for engineering and I write good essays do I have a chance?

2023 enrollment data.
College of Engineering - 38.7% Admit rate; 31 - 34 ACT Composite Middle 50%; 3.88 - 4.00 High School GPA Middle 50%
However the above is overall and depending upon whether you are in state or out of state - the ranges will differ.

Purdue admission criteria
Engineering is competitive. So in addition to making your essays Purdue and Engineering specific, suggest you also think of alternative major that might be of interest to you.

Thank you, this is my dream school so I have been trying to increase my chances where I can. Also so you think my alternate as well as my first choice pick being in engineering is fine or should I make the alternative choice in something else?

From the above webpage…All undergraduate engineering students at Purdue West Lafayette apply to and start in our First-Year Engineering program and then choose their desired major in their second semester on campus.
Also refer to my earlier reply to “svbansal” (message ~34) about alternate major and location

This is an very personal decision. It is extremely difficult to transfer into FYE if you aren’t selected as an incoming freshman.

If attending Purdue is more important to you than being an engineer, you can try a somewhat closely related field by picking a second choice in Polytech or pick engineering at the Indianapolis campus.

My daughter liked Purdue, but she would not have attended if she didn’t get her first choice major (CS). Therefore she did not put an alternative selection.

I think more than anything Purdue wants to accept students they sense REALLY want to come to Purdue.

Is the honors program worth for someone in Engineering?

Honors engineer has their own designated advisors, their own freshman design class, and essentially guaranteed research opportunities. My Purdue engineer found honors to be a huge positive. Her freshman summer internship was also through honors engineering.

Then there are all the honors perks for all majors- small seminar classes, built in leadership, honors study abroad, the living learning community, etc….

thank you!

Kiddo fell in love with Purdue when we visited last Summer.

4.0 wGPA, 28 ACT, Eagle Scout, Eagle project of the year award, DAR Award, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), 4 year Varsity athlete, hospital volunteer. I think a pretty strong essay about human connection in her her EMT job. Dialed in Purdue essays addressing the classes and prof research she was excited about.

Applied for Biomed Health to HHS. Admitted student stats put her in the middle of the pack for that school but feeling nervous since they are tightening up the acceptances to fix the yield issue from last year.

Something to add from a current freshman: I, and more than a few of my friends, initially did NOT win the lottery, however, enough people cancelled or found other housing that eventually I got a housing slot, so did all of my other friends. It was the last time slot but if you are really set on dorms I think there’s a good chance you get it even if you initially lose the lottery.

I ended up going off campus cause off campus stuff was filling up and me and my roommates made the decision before we got off the waitlist.
